Hey hey this is a really ingenuis way to make a home made press !!! Was trying to make paneer, indian cheese, but coudnt obtain the right consistancy coz of my, surely bad, presse technic, indians make it perfect just with clothe and a weight on it. Apparently not working for me. Im gonna try urs, just need to finish my butter!!! thx
Great video! very helpful...I have a question though, where I live I don't have access to limes, could I use a lemon instead? Thanks! and Happy New Year!!! :)
WOW - Great Vid! I just watched a show about them making it in China and using plaster of paris. So happy to see you make it using lime juice. I am saving this to make at home!
Thanks, I was looking for the way to make Tofu from scratch because it's just not be found anywhere in town. Some people just can't understand that some places you just can't walk up to a store and buy things. Your vid is quite good too because I was just starting to wonder if I'd have to go to a carpenter to commission the wooden mould. There is plenty of margarine boxes around though. Your tips have been very helpful, thanks.
Practice makes perfect: a carton of rehydrated soya beans in a 1lt blender ought not take too long to blend fairly finely - you put in the beans then top up with water - around a litre. Use pure soya beans and water - with zero additives. For a litre of soya milk, 2 tbsp, the juice of a whole lemon or lime will successfully coagulate, then you'll be munching away for years with recipe upon recipe for deserts, mains and numerous starters. residentchef.co.uk
That is very useful, thanks. From your level of comfort in working one-handed, I guess you must be pretty good around the kitchen :-) Friend of mine just gave me a soya milk maker, so now I'm going to be trying out a lot of this stuff!
I also read elsewhere, "Less coagulant produces softer tofu, more produces harder tofu". Does this work with lime juice: can we adjust the hardness of the tofu by changing the quantity of the lime juice used? That would be helpful; I like it hard ;-)
I think you should add the minimum amount of coagulant in order for the coagulation, while the firmness of the tofu is dependent on the length of time the weight is left on the tofu. I used to have lime as my coagulant but I like to use lemon these days - useful also for sugar-free lemonade for increasing blood ph or acidity level - counter with sugary food such as fruit.
Thanks. Your video is easy to follow. What i also like is your kitchen & utensils are clean. ^ ^. In my country, Malaysia, it is very easy to get ready made tofu. I'll favourite your page & make it should I need to. I'll send this to a friend in Sydney. Thanks again.
Thank you, that was very clear and I love the home-made equipment. Some of the other tofu-making videos show loads of expensive stuff to buy before you start. I just have to finish my margarine now ....
dude, i gotta say felicitations! i firstly thougth u were a one left handed man or it was "for the show", then i realise u were filming with the other hand. Then its hilarious, how u struggled with all the making of the home made tofu. Second, i find its really funny ur tricks with the margarine container (u must have eaten a lot..) and the house CARDS!! very ingeniouly though~
I have never tasted tofu before, but I hear that you can season it to taste like meat. If this is the case.....I may stop eating ground beef and pork. I am interested in this "tofu" shit now. Great video
Thanks for taking the time to put this together brother - really nicely done and as a result of this i will be making it myself due to your easy to understand teaching style. bless ya.respect
The music is African American gospel music and started in the days of slavery five hundred years or so ago. It was a mix between the African musical style they brought with them, the European instruments, and the Christian religion taught them in their new land. The particular tracks used for my background music are in order: Sister O - Satisfied, The Sacred Voiced - Who Dat Is and TaMyya J - Where Would I be (shown in the credits at the end of the video), happy you liked it : )
My tofu tastes ever so slightly of lime - less so than when using lemon, the case being the taste becomes unnoticeable. I recommend, suggested by my mum, allowing the tofu to remain in the mold overnight for firm non-crumbly professional effect tofu.
Multiply the cost of everything by 3, 'cos I used a third of a 500g bag of soya beans. Prices can be got from your local natural food store or section in your favourite well-stocked supermarket.
Both my blenders have just broke!! LOL

Yes. The tofu will have a slightly lemmony taste, but there is effectively no difference.

Great video! But I have one question. I didn't saw you filter the milk. You use both, milk and okara? Thanks!

@isacvpessoa7
In the video I filter the Okara into a sieve lined with muslin. Watch again?

@egolifeheaven Yes! You're absolutely right. I did watch it again, and again...and today I made it, and it was amazing! Thank you for the video! ;)

Hi
What an incredible demonstration and the ideia of the carton was genious...
Just a few questions (because I've tried to do it and went wrong for 2 times):
The blender doesn't overheat by working non-stop for 12 minutes?
Is it possible to make tofu out of pruchased soy milk? Without being directly from the soaked beans as you do here?
And the lemon or the lime juice, the more you use, the less results?
Mine came out to fine and it was hard to make the block
Thank's

Soya milk and coagulant: 30 minutes or overnight depending on firmness.

The more juice I add, the less the coagulation effect I find.

I liked the last song.
Who sings it?
MiSZTANYA 10 months ago
@MiSZTANYA
The last song was Tamyya J - Where would I be.
All the songs are black gospel music. Gospel music as typically sung in predominantly black congregation churches.

I've read tofu has high protein:
Tofu, 1 oz, 2.3 grams. There are loads
of meat replacements, a perfect one is
Redwood Vegideli Chicken Style Pieces 150g
- I recommend as a perfect replacement for chicken.

@gorillaMaticIAP Well, it doesn't have much taste but it's soooo delicious when seasoned well

umm, let me ask how much lime juice do you put inside the recipe?

The juice of a only a single lime successfully coagulates a litre and a third of (the homemade) soya milk.
