A balloon accident is extremely rare, hot air ballooning (and gas, or helium ballooning) is one of the safest and most enjoyable forms of aviation that exist. To cut the "ropes," which are now mostly made of fireproof kevlar, that connect the envelope (the big bag of hot air, or balloon) to the basket is a nearly-impossible undertaking. Then to "hold on" to those ropes during flight? All but impossible.

this type balloon can carry 12 Passengers plus pilot. when fire broke out, the pilot ordered everybody out of the basket; he got out as well, to help passengers getting out; balloon was tethered, but tore free with 4 on bord; 2 jumped out and survived; 2 didn't and mos unfortunately died (mother and daughter)
