A lot of people here are talking about this like it is lesser than modern MMA, but if you went back to the late 1990's or watched anything from Pride, this was basically it then as well. Vale Tudo is the father of MMA, and what these men are doing is Vale Tudo, which while similar, is very different and should be respected.
Okay. Just watched some UFC clips, because someone cited it as more real-deal. They go down faster with less punishment even with padded gloves. That was instantly obvious. I'm done now. I doubt anyone's even gonna read all this.
@EvilStreaks Two different ballgames, two different gameplans. A lot of UFC guys are wrestlers because sitting on top of your opponent for 3mins out of the 5 minute round gets you more points and has less risk of getting your chin checked standing up; i dont think they give points for wrestling in brazil. Bare knuckle the hands could be damaged and the striking looks "lackluster" compared to good UFC strikers, but it's a different game, less risk with gloves, and more damaging without.
Seen comments about these lads having low skill compared to other organisations. Well, I don't know if that's true cos this fight looked real except for the ref and the mutual respect for the condition of eachother's nuts and eyes. But I don't know what more you're asking for. Martial art is for focus and discipline and fitness. The rest is fiction that intimidated men like to believe in 'cos kung fu movies paint a picture where huge thugs always lose in the end cos they lack some deep wisdom!

Bare knuckle boxing is completely different from regular boxing. Rarely would bare-knuckle fighters throw punches to the head because you're much more likely to break your own hand instead of hurting your opponent.
Its hard to judge these guys when orthodox punching techniques can't be used.
I'm going to be perfectly honest here and say that i don't watch mma to see two guys circling eachother for 5 minutes trying to win by decision.But i do think that they should be forced to wear gloves for the sake of the person throwing the punch and the person getting hit.I have been watching some 'Vale Tudo' fights and noticed that the referees are very slow at reacting to Tap-Outs and Tkos but if they solved the issues i've mentioned then 'Vale Tudo' could be great someday.

Because a full knee to the face is very rare and, overall, 90% of the times it ends the fight. Bareknuckle fighters instead, take many MANY punches (without vaseline) during a fight. Without gloves defence is quite impossible and when you hit, you cut..
This isn't just my humble opinion, this is why UFC, Strike force etc etc. put gloves in their fights. :D
@jjjoestar I disagree, when your hand is wrapped TIGHT in the hand wraps its like concrete! Just as hard as any fist, MMA gloves are not thick atall, they only serve to protect the hands. I have seen many good Vale Tudo and MMA fights and I have spent bigger part of my life in martial arts. So I know, when I see a good fight. Brute force and blood does not mean a good fight. It is about tecnique. I respect these dudes because they can take a punch. But- pour technique.

@arimanaz compared to MMA where fighters are trained in different martial arts instead of just fighting? Yes, absolutely. I just feel the technique for punching is different with bareknuckle. My punching techs for the street are different from my MMA/kickboxing punching. The gloves really allow you to freely throw hand techniques much more quickly, and make for an exciting fight. But yes, not as much refinement in boxing, judo, but good jiujitsu.

Yes, fighting with no gloves transforms your technique significantly.Boxers often brake their fingers in street fight.Good punch with bad habits of forming a fist is combined,and result is sad.Part of my training is bareknuckle fighting with controlled contact, +full contact fighting with face protections,with no gloves.(like vale tudo,but less ground fighting)These are made from hard plastic and feels like hitting ones scull.But such training is useful for street situations.

Because a full knee to the face is very rare and, overall, 90% of the times it ends the fight. Bareknuckle fighters instead, take many MANY punches (without vaseline) during a fight. Without gloves defence is quite impossible and when you hit, you cut..
This isn't just my humble opinion, this is why UFC, Strike force etc etc. put gloves in their fights. :D

@jjjoestar I disagree, when your hand is wrapped TIGHT in the hand wraps its like concrete! Just as hard as any fist, MMA gloves are not thick atall, they only serve to protect the hands. Much respect to vale tudo guys, but I do not believe that a punch with an MMA glove is any less brutal than bare knuckle
