One of the 10 best singles to come out in 79' in my opinion. I bought this purely on the 'Singles of the Week' section of some music mag. NME or Sounds. It blew me away, but unfortunately it spoilt me as the best music does and I had to seek high and low to find music that moved me the way this track does. The album 'Sound on Sound' is excellent also, though I'm waiting for a re-release on CD to include the live tracks 'Out of Touch' and I think a live version of 'Revolt into Style'.
i had revolt into style on single in blue vinyl , i took it to a party i was a dj at and someone nicked it, atleast they had good taste, classic album
A musical milestone for me - this is the first single i ever bought. 39p from the discount bin at Harum Records in Watford High Street. thanks for posting !
@pawnsacrifice1 I think he does sound a bit like Hugh on this track, yeah. I guess they'd be more or less contempories, and as @shazam1059 says, the song has quite a punk sound to it.
@pawnsacrifice1 I don't think he sounds anything like Hugh Cornwell! Although Be Bop Deluxe did a track called Love In Flames, that sounds a bit like the Stranglers, musically
@pawnsacrifice1 Guess what! You've changed my mind. I have known and loved this track for 31 years and never noticed the similarity but I have to admit there is one.
@broadly122 still got it in blue vinyl.... ahh those were the days! bought a "Wire" single the same day, the record shop had listneing booths!!! how old is that but still cool.
@dededeoo7 I went to see Bill at a small club in Sheffield around the time of this single and even managed to have a chat with the great man himself.....he autographed my national insurance card....great days indeed!
Have also been looking for it for a while - what with being unable to play my vinyl copy of Sound on Sound. The great tune on one of the best albums of all time, and one of the ones that made 1979 a great year for British music. You've made us happy, and that's worth something.
Thanks for posting this---I've been looking for it for quite a while now. Bill is not only a great guitarist, but has both a sharp mind and tongue when it comes to the lyrics. Thanks. Peace:-)
Such a great guitar player wasted on girlish things ! The music is not bad but I could hardly listen to the guitar and , as a whole, it's too 'Pop' for me.
Have just heard Hot Chip One Life Stand in a shop. It's very obvious that they've been listening to Mr Nelson. I hope they credit him as an influence.
Bill Nelson & his former band Be Bop Deluxe, are one of the most under-rated bands the music world will ever come across. His body of work is a plethora of brilliant, eclectic, visionary sonic art.
Mr. Nelson is a musical enigma, that continues to radiate outwards & upwards...*
what a great song, with a very contemporary message still today. always loved bill nelson from the late 70s onwards. what a great songwriter, guitarist, and future thinker.
Apparently, and I had to look this up on something called 'Google', the b-side of Revolt Into Style was indeed a live version of Out Of Touch, recorded at De Montfort Hall Leicester. It's a small world hahaha. Glad you liked it, anyway.
I had it too - 1st time I'd ever seen a blue record - brilliant track!

Classic track - totally under-rated - takes me right back to 1982 when I never stopped playing Sound on Sound as a spotty teenager

IMO Andy Clark never got the recognition he deserved for both Drastic Plastic and Red Noise’s Sound-on-Sound. He is an incredible keyboard player.

I'm going to go get drunk in a piano bar and think of ways
to use bass guitar harmonics in a pop tune.
