  • Great idea - well executed.

  • Awesome job. What will 15 amps power? Will it power a small microwave oven for 2 minutes?

  • Does this controller need a battery for load to work?

  • Nice set up!

  • can u come over and build me one... please. ;-)

  • Looks like a powerful generator, best suited for residential lighting.

  • that inverter can draw more amps than that one battery can store! At full output of 5000W the DC draw will be 500 AMPS! This inverter is about 10-15 times bigger than the rest of the system! I wish I had that 5000W pure sine inverter! would work great in my house! ha ha TU AR SK .. Joe

  • @toobroke2fight

the 5000W was a surge rating. his inverter is most likly only a 3000W unit, and even then at the beginning he says, 1 battery for now, which shows he plans to upgrade and add more batterys, give the guy a break, the system is pretty good, and shows alot of potential

  • nice. scott (BUG)

  • Is that a 18 watt panel or a 80 watt? Can't see too clearly but I bought a Sunforce 15 watt panel which looks similar to the panel on top of your box. Thanks for sharing. Your system looks very functional being portable and all.

  • Nice battery, but why didn't you get the marine blue top ? I know the yellow is deep cycle too, but it seems like the blue top would be better since you aren't starting an engine with it or anything. I plan on getting a blue top optima as soon as I get a bigger solar panel, My other non optima deep cycle (walmart everstart) is for a computer backup, but it is much heavier and has only 125 amp hours, I should have just spent the $50 extra and got an optima, lol.

  • have heard similar, but much more interesting to watch

  • Sweet. It only makes cents to DIY to me too! I also like the wind-generators, however blades and balance is a skill to be mastered.

Any thought on maritime and/or saltwater environment modifications or concerns?

  • computers can easily make perfectly balanced blades etc. have you ever seen a tire be balanced on a rim? it only takes a few small weights to do. once you get the correct computer model, you would then setup a machine to build it. then mass produce the blade array and voila youve got it.. then you can easily use more computer modeling to fine tune and even make improvements!

  • Yes, there are machines. I have an air-x wind-generator on my boat. The Blades were around $150, and that's not bad; However, that is not the point.

DIY stands for Do-It-Yourself. If I was going to make bulk blades for anything I might buy a machine It would be very expensive, as is buying the "Solar Back-up unit vs. building one. That is the point of this video.

As mentioned, when DIY building a Wind-Generator the blades are challenging. Unless you're going to buy a fabricating machine, crazy.

  • take another video and do not zoom in so much. you only showed a wide view for half a second then right to extreme close up of the meters. Could not see what we were looking at.

    Nice project

  • Hi pozzerbob,

Looks cool, though I still have some questions:

    1. How come you produce 1.8KW out of a 80W solar panel???

    2. Can this system be used, adding a DC to AC converter, to feed th grid and my house?

I must be missing something here.

Thank you for posting this video! Very interesting.

  • 1) because the battery is being charged slowely over a long period of time, then being discharged quickly.

    2) yes, you just need a special type of inverter called a grid-tie inverter. (those are quite expensive though)

  • Hello, this is cool! I have a small set up and a small trailer this is giving me cool thoughts for my set up, now we just need a 12 volt industial motor to run a 10,000 watt power head belt drive and make it recycling with a small charger. Thanks I like it alot!! Ive got three big batteries, a wind turbine and 3- 15 watt pannels, the trailer makes since to go mobile. Camping or out in frontyard

  • Nice setup.... only a matter of time before earth4energy scam steals ur vid =P

  • HEY THANKS FOR THE INVITE. Thats pretty nice. looks real expensive too. how much? I loved the video, it was a little fast and short though. give us old farts a chance to think about what we are seeing lol . It looks like you didnt short cut any of the important things. my compliments. once again thanks for the invite. THE MUDDY ONE

  • very nice. you should give it a sweet name!

  • Did you put wheels or casters on the box?

  • Sweet! You should post a little more detailed explanation...Most people don't know what a charge controller, deep cycle battery, inverter is...much less where to get them- Nice set up you hooked up though- I love that you can get your readings right off the front of the box!:)

Ima go post this on MySpace lol...Thanks!
