no, i think the story is about two people who are stuck in their same boring lives..but they persevered because they know they still have their future...the way they refer to the box is how they explain their current lives, its not that they want to change, its that they cant change it anymore instead they kept on expecting for the future..."this box cannot get out" means that in their current life, they cant do anything to change it, thats why...

Aw, I think that's a good interpretation, like in the beginning they 'didn't want to get wet' so I guess they were afraid of the world and the 'box cannot get out' is almost like, 'I can't get out of this box [of fear and judgment by others?]' I assume the judgment part because of how they didn't want to hear voices around and be stained by colors [of other people?]. Not sure though, just speculating~ :]
