I was looking for a version by The Wailin' Jennys and discovered Kate's amazing version. Her pure voice is a treat for ear and soul. Yes. Please. Come to America.
Thanks for the information. I am a relatively new fan and just got the album (actually 3 of em). Hope to see them live soon. Any songs they perform will not disappoint I am sure. Same would go for Kate.
@tubite2 We are planning on seeing them in alexandria virginia in april, its an 8 hour drive, but thats ok, thats as close as they are coming to us. Hope you can see them sometime. best talent out there
@wailinjennyfan I second the recommendation of the Wailin' Jennys performance of this song. Kate Rusby's version is nice, but the Jennys' version blew me away. Just incredible three-part harmony and feeling.
This song has haunted me for several years now.....it never ends in my mind...like an old friend. Concertina brings out the sentimental lonesome in me.
I have been singing this with you all day...
Thanks for that!

Does this song have any other names? I swear I've heard the tune before but it wasn't called this...

A fictitious character once said, "How could someone so beautiful seem so sad"

@Aggrevaine I know your post is from a year ago, but which fictitious character were you talking about?

@MusicLover1920 Dicey Riley was the titular character of an Irish trad song. There's a lovely version of it here on YouTube, done by Sweeney's Men,

This is such an incredible song. I feel every nuance. Kate's voice just charms me to bits. First time I heard this, I cried. I'm ok now though.
