I love Vengerov, however, he does have his moments where you are like, 'what were you thinking?'
speaking of annoying faces... gil shaham... hands down the most annoying... vengerov might look funny but those mouth undulations with the rest of his body not moving... again, I really like some of gil shaham's sound, but in the brahms I heard him play I got his of all his glissandos and goofy explosions of fortissimo...
i love this concerto. i agree vengerofs faces are annoying but i think his playing is superb. this clip is too short to make an accurate or fair judgement.many ppl dont like heifetz b'cos they think he was just about technicality but i doubt many can play like him. the same is true of vengerof. is he the best currently -i dont know, certianly vadim repin would give him a good run for his money but i like both
his tempo deviations and terribly out-of-place rubato serve to give the piece an uncomfortable feel. wake up herr vengerov this is mendelssohn not the blues. ich muss mit veil Respekt sagen dass herr Vengerov versteht mendelssohn gar nicht und dass es schrecklich ist
I like Vengerov but I thumbs-upped your comment anyway cos I agree that opinions differ and that we shouldn't dislike others just cos of their opinion, that's just primitive and on the same lines as racism etc.! And cos you said it tactfully too!
can someone post the complete version of this song (by Vengerov)? I really like this song. I agree that this is truly a legendary piece. Probably one of the best violin concerto
That's what you think. If you think that Vengerov's rendition is more emotional than Heifetz's then you simply are not understanding Heifetz's emotions, because I certainly feel them. And whenever I listen to Heifetz play this piece I get a lot more out of it than most renditions.
Anyone who listens with their eyes and not with their ears would agree with you. Listen with your ears and you will hear for yourself how emotional Heifetz's playing is. It's a known fact that people who think Heifetz played unemotionally are bad musicians. Ask any serious violinist if they like Heifetz and they'll tell you. I bet Vengerov LOVES Heifetz.
@craisslayer Actually, it is a fact. You won't find a single decent musician who thinks that Heifetz played unemotionally. You'll find a lot of people who don't like his playing, but no decent musician will say that they dislike him because he's unemotional.
I understand what you mean. However, there are things in which Vengerov can be just sublime, an example being Esterellita (Ponce) with I Virtuosi (apparently). I enjoy Vengerov's rendition of this Mendelssohn, even though I prefer Heifetz's. It seems a tad stilted to me. Perhaps it's the orchestral interpretation as a whole. overall, a masterful performance (if not my favourite).
sometimes i wonder why people prefer to argue than listen and enjoy the music-.-

I don't feel any emotion if I close my eyes.
It seems as all emotion is in looking at his faces...
No,I don't like his playing (opinions differ of course and that is just mine).

Wow, I think Vengerov is the only violinist who became physically one with his instrument!

Vengerov's Sharp and very good violinist! Virtuoso Awesome!

I think Heifetz's performance of this piece is the best. I think Vengerov plays it too slowly, and not emotionally enough, but that's just me.

heifetz plays this piece even less emotionally than vengerov

No way! Vengerov is the most expressive violinist you could ever find! This version is the greatest. I think Heifetz is a robot compared to Vengerov.

@AbsoluteZ3R0 It's not a fact that people who think Heifetz played unemotionally are bad musicians. I'm a heifetz fan but don't be so opinionated.

I actually have the record of that concert, and i can tell that for sure

You can tell that from 1:00 minute?
FoggyRoad81 5 years ago
SUPERB. At the same level of Anne-Sophie Mutter, when she played the concert under the direction of von Karajan.

very nice, haven't you got more of this concerto?
