so when you said it was 5 below freeze was that in the 20s or was it -5 F because you kept saying 5 below and then 5 below freezing, which is confusing. I suppose it it was -5 all those plants would have died.
My plants outside all survived 16F last winter on the coldest night with 3-4 nights in a row with temps below freezing. I have lost a few E. spachiana (from Argentina and they DO not like the cold) and one C. gigantea, it was moved and the cold/wet didn't help it out at all.
