Great fun!! vaudeville pro´s like him, chaplin or the marxes were years on the road for basic training in front of tough audiences in so many cities and nowhere towns. They learned it the way one learned it these days: the hard way. Once there was talkies the vaudeville theatres changed into cinemas, end of the scene! Raw diamonds were polished by a merciless audience. Best comedians come from hardship,
Fields career is proofing this, Where do they learn it now? Takes a scene for any art.
"have you any of them bonds on ya or any that money?"
William Claude at his best!!!!! (And I DON'T think he was acting!) Remember how in the other scenes they'd throw snow in his face when he would open the door and say "Ain't a fit night out..."? That's why he had the reaction he did at the end of this scene. Wonderful stuff, so glad you sent it!
I still have this on VHS along with "The Dentist", guess I need to upgrade to DVD if it's available. I'm stiil trying to find "You're Telling Me" featuring the Princess Lescaburra, another of the best of WC.

It's clever how a dirty word is left to your imagination when he hits him - "for the rest of your [crash] life!"

I liked the way he got a little mini-blast of snow in his face when he peeked through the broken window!
