In the recent Queen documentary "Days Of Our Lives" they said that "Another One Bites The Dust" was nr.1 on the charts for 31 weeks and was even played in a large part of the black community in America, people who wasnt even interested in music started to know who Queen were, and thats thanks to that man John Deacon.
I remember this interview. I always felt the interviewer was messing with Queen. He made some allusions to the isolationism of succsessful artists that stifled creativity and either Deacon didn't get it or he played it off. Maybe it's just me, but I think the interviewer was a tosser who thought he was being clever in baiting John and remember that back then the establishment was against them because they were, ironically so, establishment orientated.
Didn't hear that Mike Stone had passed, that's sad. It is funny, now, to hear John speak of graphic eq's. Essentually, the drums and bass are the foundation of any group, but they have to accentuate the guitar and vox.
John's a funny one...sometimes when he gets interviewed he is so sweet and actually quite clever and witty and easily capable of putting his ideas forward in an eloquent manner. Other times it sounds like he's been programmed by Queen productions to come out with banality. He's criminally underrated as a musician mind.
John is a reserved, humble family man. His strong point is not interviewing or fronting a band or even vocals. But he is a brilliant and incredibly underrated bassist. His artistry on bass alone is completely under appreciated. His great song writing are ostensibly Queen. His compositions "You're My Best Friend", "Another One Bites the Dust", etc. are Queen staples. He was the financial and electronic wiz of the band.
John paid his dues touring, writing, recording, etc. for years.
he quit because he said it went on longer than he thought it would and when freddy died that was it he also laughed at the idea of robbie williams joining the band,
John says the Q sound is "distinctive." I think that is an understatement. The Q sound is MAGIC because of the four lads' minds & abilities; their coming together was a Synchronic Event which has resulted in the most Beautiful Music ever produced, their Gifts to the world, to us.
Brilliant!!!!
But how many times did he say "ya know"..?? ya know...

from 2 - 2:30 is a funny pic. Serious, yet flaming gay looking, except for Brian. I surely love Queen so on offense meant.
