  • You could fill in for Mossy mate!

  • 6 months to a year ago heard your rendition of dresden and loved it this is equally brilliant well done great skills

  • @timbuttz Thanks man, its not a particularly hard solo, but not one I see many players playing, or even liking! Must be an old man solo I think!!!!! Cant believe there's not more vids on you tube of guys doing Moss solos, all the mindless shredding videos make me sick, Moss is so brilliant.

  • Love this solo!. I've always thought a couple of notes at 1:03 sounded just a bit off, and wondered if it was intentional or not. Dunno, might just be me! lol.

  • Just to clarify. I meant mossy's original solo. Not your work, which was spot on :)

  • @rod7178 Hah, thanks man! Mossy does play some odd notes here and there, and there are a few phrases where he plays some notes I just cant figure out, maybe its a tad sloppy on his part, maybe its the MOSS MAGIC!!!!

  • @rod7178 Gimme a break man, it was hard to figure out!!!!!

  • @robelinda No, you nailed it man. I was just saying to my ear a couple of Mossy's notes sound a bit off on the original solo. Cheers!

  • this is an altime favourite of mine too - I kinda fudge my way thru it, but you've done a great job getting all the fingering worked out. Clean sound too ;-)

The solo was apparently inspired by Jeff Beck (there were rumours at the time that he actually played it...). If u like this then check out some of his stuff. He's a genius.

  • Also, there's a very early live version of this song on an EP Chisel released called "You're Thirteen You've Beautiful and You're Mine" - the solo on that is fantastic too, maybe even better!! Enjoy....

  • I have learnt that version too, just recently! Took me ages off the LP, great little EP too, superb tones from Mr Moss. I actually played his 62 red strat the other day, all $40,000 of it, what a fantastic axe!

  • that EP was a seminal influence on my guitar playing, & musical appreciation in general. Yeah, great strat sounds. $40k eh? Looks like I"ll never own one :-\

You got JB @ Ronnie Scott's DVD?? Mindblowing...

  • Home And Broken Hearted just rocks, love Ian's unusual phrasing, he has a cool feel which is so classy. And yes it was a fine strat, I shouldve recorded my Mossy vids with one of my strats.

That Jeff Beck dvd is amazing, I have a few bootleg dvd's from the 90's and one from 84 which is fabulous. Always good to watch. Just love good tasty players!!!

  • lol - used to play H&BH back in the day, live version of course. Loved playing the solo.

I saw Beck here in Melbourne when he toured recently. I do not have words.... ;-)

    all the best 2 u

  • I was there too, great concert!

My favourite concert was Albert Lee in 07, master!

  • oh man, too weird. I joined a country-rock band 12 months ago - Albert has become my latest fave player. I didn't know who he was in 07!!!! Kicking myself now. Yes indeed, he is the master, & sounds like a great guy too.

  • He sure is nice! I got to hang out back stage and talk to him, super nice guy and so humble. I have many of his Albert Lee signature Music Man guitars, they are brilliant. His playing is a true inspiration, love the country stuff a lot. Get your hands around T Bird To Vegas!

  • I LOVE Jeff Beck, huge fan! One of the first tunes I ever learnt was Led Boots. I like the There And Back LP, great tunes.

  • What a great solo. I love this song

  • nice work son, i've always loved that solo - i'm inspired enough now to work it out - I'll get a vid reply to you ....in about a month!!

  • Good, I'm looking forward to it!! Ive always loved the solo too, Its a 'must learn'!

  • I thought I knew half of this but once I LISTENED to the thing closely I realised how much I've been fudging it!! A work in progress... learning some great moss tricks along the way :) I'll keep you informed.... put another mate of mine onto the challenge too hehehe -- back to it eh....

    Phil

  • Nice work. You didn't just the mimic the solo, you played it musically

  • This is such a haunting song

    great job Rob

  • Thanks! I'm yet to meet another guitarist who even likes this song, let alone play the solo, crazy stuff, Moss is brilliant! I cant believe more Aussie players arent into him in a big way.

  • Good stuff very accurate.

    Thanks for posting Rob.

Can you post the swingshift version?

  • I'll have to post it soon!

  • See my comments below. If you combine the beginning of the Swingshift version and the solo from the "You're Thirteen..." version you will end up with the ultimate version of this classic song. Thanks for your video.

  • Yep the Swingshift version is brilliant, also the version on the Rockpalast German live DVD is awesome.

  • Who wouldn't give this vid 5 stars???

  • Thanks mate, I love jammin around to this tune, Ian's solos over the years have always been fantastic, his signature tune in my book.

  • Nice one man!

Good stuff! And on a Music Man, if you please.

    Great!!

Couldn't find that song on Youtube, too bad.

I've got a few incredible vids anyway, live that was something!

  • hlnro - yes the Circus Animals album tracks were so gutsy and heartfelt

  • Best Mossy solos imho, Just How Many Times, Wild Colonial Boy, Letter to Alan. All are great though. Of the old live ones there is the great guitar of Plaza and One Long Day blending together in circa 1979 era, I have it as mp3 somewhere...

  • Put it on! Take any still pic you want and please put it on the bloody tube!

    :)

  • rosaline janelle never before plaza hotel my baby thats the shit bro

  • Rosaline is great.

  • just how many times does an old red wine..................listen ..QUALITY

  • It sure is a great song, best Ausie song of the 70's.

  • Yes, and Bow River too.

  • I am dying to get a copy of this song. I used to have the album but my brother stole it. Ah well I dont have a record player any more. Can any one upload "One long day" for me.... PLEASE!

  • Hey you can find this song on Cold Chisel's debut Cd, its always really cheap in the shops! Not hard to find by any means, great cd too!

  • Check out the live version of this song from the "You're Thirteen, You're Beautiful and You're Mine" CD. It is has the ultimate Moss blues guitar solo. This solo is tasty but restrained. And if you add the opening blues harp from the "Last Stand" live CD you'll end up with one of the truly great blues songs.

  • Hi guys I am a great fan of Ian Moss. I think the best version of his One Long Day solo is on the Swingshift album. In my book its phenominal-- it has a great bluesey introduction and then for the rest of the song he's on fire.

  • Agree 100%! Never get tired of listening to such a great player.

  • Couldn't find it here but it's on the web somewhere..

  • Nice work! Got those solos marked down to the T! I'm an absolute chisel fanatic. I've learnt to play most chisel songs on the piano and its bloody awesome. Love especially One Long Day, Northbound, Rosaline, Janelle, Sing to Me and The Party's Over. Be awesome to get together with ya sometime and play these songs. Love to hear you rip out Sing To Me. There's a bloody awesome solo Mossy does. What other Chisel songs can you do? How many do you know? Do you learn them all by ear?

  • Moss is my No 1 favourite guitarist, ever since I was a kid. Plenty of shredders aout there but Moss is all class in my opinion. Ive learnt every Moss solo/Chisel tune Ive heard, love em!!! Yep learnt em all by ear, takes ahwile but its good fun to be had, would love to jam with you! Trying to get the solos on Dresden done, thats my favourite Moss solo!

  • I agree I think he is all class too Rob.I am not much of a great guitar player but i love to watch him play because every move is classy and the sound of course is fantastic too. i have read a few times that he can just play a one or two notes and his style is so distictive you can tell its him.

  • Yep I can pick him easily! Very definite style and vibrato.

  • twentieth century is so underrated, they dont even like it.janelle no sense sing to me flame tres ghost town how good are they
