Salonga has the best vocals of any actress who's done Fantine and her entire performance at the 25th anniversary concert shows how more emotionally connected she is to the role than anyone who's ever played the role, even if that show is only a truncated version of the musical. Simply amazing!

In my opinion Salonga showed different emotions of Fantine in this performance - close to what victor hugo's book/novel would want to impart.

Ruthie's more of a 'concert' version... "belt" wise ruthie definitely has it but for me salonga expressed more "Fantine emotions"

Seen both of them in Miss Saigon years ago doing "I still believe" and they were both stunning! ;-)

@mfiorell Just because you're a belter doesn't mean you can pull off any song. Watch her sing the full song and you'll see how she nailed the nuaces of the song, musically and lyrically.

She quite can't pull of the needed emotion for the song, becuase it is a very emotional song. In that clip (And I admit it is small) he voice seems rather... Bland? I do prefer Ruth Henshall as Fantine. And Lea Salonga does an AMAZING On My Own, and Little Fall of Rain. Although with the 10th anniversary DVD playing right beside me, I could be a bit prejudice ;) (Also Nick Jonas does not pull of Marius Pontmercy for Heavens sake!)

I'd love to see this DVD. I do not doubt that any of their performances would lack any brilliance, but I do prefer Lea in the role of Eponine and Ruthie in the role of Fantine. Who is playing Eponine here?
