  • Wow !!! What a song !!! First I've heard of their music - and it's an instant hit. Gonna buy me some of their stuff now....

  • this song has all my most cherished memories before my mom and dad got divorsed

  • @xxxxDontForgetImHere You spelt divorce incorrectly.

  • @GetYourGasMask sooooo???

  • @GetYourGasMask You're supporting ignorance in America.

  • I like this song cause I am Asian.

  • Karen is amazing. 2:33 - 2:53 is awesome, too.

  • I met them in person. A lovely bunch of lovely individuals! :)

  • i saw them play at the opera house in toronto, circa 1995. they were opening act for another band. i can't remember the headliner, though remember drinking ex in the alley waiting to get in, i'd not heard of them before, was hooked after hearing this song. its been a long time, still love it.

  • i wish we could hear it w/out the DAMN commercials

  • Karen , you're a deadly singer ... love to the Innocence Mission from their biggest fan in Ireland.

  • I just love this song...for some reason this sounded slower than I remember...The video..eh? It was o.k but I don't think it did the lyrics justice. Either way thanks to my roomate in college who turned me onto Innocence Mission :) love love them!

  • this vid's like a freaky horror movie trailer, when i watched it i was like oO i don't how to explain it actually LOOOL

    the song's great though...

  • I watch them and those that watch them. I will will kill those that will try to harm them.

  • I saw them live one night long ago in LA at the Whiskey. Oh my. I was standing right at the stage. Innocence Mission, you guys blew me completely out of my socks. So true. So pure was your live sound. So beautiful. I'll never forget. Love you.

  • I've loved this song for years, but never knew the title. This is the first time I've seen the video and it is also great! Very few artists of today can compare to this.

  • I remember when this came out, I thought it was Mazzy Star...and then I was disappointed because I couldn't find this album at my local record shop. Great song.

  • @SupahGeenus I thought it was Mazzy Star too! I think their song Fade Into You was out around the same time and their voices and guitar are similar. Then I saw IM open for Natalie Merchant in Milwaukee, they sang this song and I've been a huge fan ever since.

  • What a beautifull song and video:)

  • This video does not at all look like it was made in in 1995.

  • Reminds me of my teenage years...goooooooood memories

  • The Innocence Mission. They opened for some band.... at the Opera House in Toronto circa 1995 I figure. I do remember drinking beers underage by the stairs and thinking that the song being played was sounding very familiar. "bright as yellow" I had heard the song on CFNY though didn't realize that they were actually the opening act. A very vivid memory for me, they put on a great show and I still listen to the two albums I picked up yrs ago.

  • A few nights ago, my kids and a few friends were catching lightning bugs - a great early summer activity here in the southern USA...the adults were watching on our back deck, having a few drinks and enjoying our kids' enthusiasm..i then started playing this song on my ipod...it was perfect for the moment...what great song, and voice...but I'm still not sure which is more beautiful, her voice or face!?

  • Love

  • This was my favorite when I was about 15. I shaved my head to this song about 30 times before I was 20!

  • @theflorigamist That is hysterical.

  • @theflorigamist Why does that remind me of Empire Records? ;)

  • @TheLauren917 Duh! That's where I got my 15 year old teen angst idea. From Robin Tunney, of Course!

  • @theflorigamist Lol. I am so glad to read, that i wasn't the only one with that idea! Though, I was more tempted to dye my hair orange/red ala Ethan Embry. ;)

  • @TheLauren917 Shaving head or the song? If you're talking about the song, it's actually in the sound track of Empire Records.

  • but can she cook?

  • @chippy783 haha,

  • gracious. this takes me back. I was only a kid in the 90s but I remember those long, shapeless, floral dresses. It's kinda hard to understand how they got popular, but at the time I know they seemed very summery and romatic. :) wonder what I'll think of today's fashions 15 years from now.

Oh, and the song is awesome. I didn't hear it back then but it still seems very fresh

  • Nice content but FUCK VEVO and your shitty commercials.

  • She's stunning =)

  • I just love Karen Peris...

  • I discovered this band in 1993 in China. Their first album, which is just plain hard to find, was part of the small music library of the radio station I was producing a show from. I couldn't believe it when I found the CD and started listening to it. I've been listening to them ever since.

  • i found these guys becuase i google famous bands from my city (lancaster,pa), glad i did that :)

  • The face wouldn't tell me anything because I've never seen her, but I've heard that voice is a dead ringer for The Sundays. Am I right?

  • This song totally takes me back to summertime in the 90's sitting in my room with the windows open and just looking at the trees and catching the occasional cool breeze. Only a song this solid can do something like that.

  • It has a strange darkness to it doesn't it.

  • This video looks like taken out of a dream doesn't it?

  • Back in the day this would be song I'd light up a joint to... Then just kick back and listen... and quietly fall asleep.

  • <3 this song!

  • A song from my fav album fI remember rom my teen years, Empire Records Soundtrack. It was a mixed brew of indie rock treats. Some are better than others. This is certainly one of my favs. What makes those songs so wonderful is a the artists all listening to each other, really listening, and giving back. It's something so simple yet so affective. You end up with a quality produced album that also feels so live, so in the moment. :)

  • @Neurolanis ....the Empire Records Soundtrack is great music wise...

  • What kind of soulless prick clicks the "dislike" button?

  • @Rossco242

It had to have been an accident!!!, then they relized and hit the like tab....not saying I did it but it must have happened that way!!!!!

  • @coerly I see! Well, I reckon your soul is still intact...

  • love her facial expressions :) oh my, how innocent she looks!

  • This band is simply amazing. I would love for them to come to San Francisco to play for all of us but they very rarely even play out. I have created a Facebook page to encourage them to do just that. Please search for and "LIKE" my page entitled, Dear Innocence Mission- Please, Please TOUR. (youtube won't let me post link here).

The goal is to somehow have Karen or the band to hear of this movement and know how much we'd love for them to tour and then do it! Tell your friends.

  • @skatttterbrain3 I had the rare opportunity to see them in Denver at a reputable bar.. and they were simply amazing! They hung out with all of us for a while. :)

  • me encanta la voz de esta mujer

  • where's "umbrella"? I love that song.

  • The only question I have about this video is why isn't the color yellow shown? That made no sense to me.

  • @esstampclub I think it's because she WANTS to be bright a yellow, but she's stuck in a grey world?

  • @Lemnii That might be the explanation. It's just weird that even at the end of the video we still didn't see anything yellow. Oh well, no big deal.

  • @esstampclub Well, I beleive the firefly is yellow. They are christian rock is root. I think the whole seed of though is about faith is finding the inner light, that even though it's weak, it's lights the darkness. Kind of a melancholy inner child soul searching. BTW, I'm not religious at all, so I aint preaching:3, but this is one of my favorite groups of all time. In my opinion, it's what Mazzy Star should have been.

  • I've watched this video a hundred times and just today noticed that freaky shadow at 2:16. That's the the affect Mrs. Paris can have on a fella.

  • Great Song, I forgot about it.

  • wooow love this!!!

  • great number one

  • Holy heck. I remember this song. I loved it!

  • I love this song.. =)

I write music similar to this.

    Her voice is stunning.

-Hey Shay and the Pretty Penny

  • love this song!

  • 10 000 Maniacs.... but it's ok.... nice tune nevertheless... :o)

  • Lovely song, but I'm guessing that lady looks at this video and cringes at that dress she was wearing.

  • @thepdw I like her dress =)

  • 0:01

  • mooie stem ,lief koppie, past goed bij elkaar,

  • I love her voice.

  • I miss the days when talent, not trash talk and T&A propelled bands and/or singers to the top of the charts

  • One of my fav songs of all time. Probably because yellow is my fav color and this song just makes me happy.

  • I still remember seeing them at Borders Bookstore off of La Cienega in Los Angeles at the time they came out with this song in 1995. They were just about to go on tour to open for Natalie Merchant at the time. This is my favorite song by them.

  • I've been listening to this bands later stuff for six months now, can't for the life of me understand why I haven't heard this before... And Kate Peris, along with her voice is stunning in this video.

  • Love this Song

  • this song...gives me hope, despite it all

  • Guilty pleasure? There's nothing to be guilty about when it comes to Innocence Mission. And that's coming from me, one of the biggest death metal nerds in the world.

  • @DarianHarman hahah..death metal fan fail!!

  • @DarianHarman

Samhain says you are both a liar and a ponce. A pox on your house, you pretender.

  • @Jaysthename It befuddles me to think a concept as esoteric as Samhain would bear any direct relevance to the comment of mine which you have responded to. I have made no attempt at feigning any fashion of grandiosity and, frankly, you have already illustrated your own hypocrisy which is heavily laden within your assertion. Why you have singled out a comment I made 1 year ago is absolutely beyond the scope of what I am willing to entertain, but I will say, however: it speaks volumes about you.

  • @DarianHarman I was referring to Samhain THE BAND, which is one of the best known death rock/metal bands ever. The fact that you called yourself "one of the biggest death metal nerds in the world," and yet didn't know that most elementary of facts, is a better retort to your ridiculous pseudo-intellectual comments than I could compose myself. [Also, I was drunk and this is just the internet. Stop being such a baby.]

  • @Jaysthename I did not make the connection is because, plainly and simply, the band Samhain was neither metal nor death metal. I gave you the benefit of the doubt in suspecting that you might be referring to a metaphysical concept, though I now see that I was mistaken in offering you any manner of a berth. Your attempt to troll me has failed utterly and completely, and your idiocy is now in plain sight for all to see. As for being a baby, I'm not sure I follow. Conversation=over. You lose.

  • @DarianHarman "Your attempt to troll me has failed utterly and completely". Your TWO replies prove otherwise :>

  • *-is

  • Innocence Mission comes from a Amish/Mennonite background. They emphasize simplicity. If you look at the band members they have that plain angelic look. Amy Grant sang a few of the songs Karen Peris wrote. "tis the gift to be simple, "tis the gift to be free.

  • @whaledone100 Although lancaster has many amish, TIM are catholic, and some previous cd releases have raised money for catholic causes. I dont believe there is any affiliation to the amish/mennonite communities.

  • Oh, my Gosh! I really miss this time of my life.

    :(

  • Is the lead singer supposed to sound like a little girl..?

  • @tomk773 Well, yeah. She used to have a very strong voice, but it changed through the years. The two voices are sharp contrasts to each other.

  • Hi, I live in Perú. (south america). I had a Tv programm "El Sial" (2004-2006) in Peru and I put this video several times, but I didn't know the name of the band neither name of this song. Then, year 2010, I raise this video at Youtube waiting someone was helping myself. Yuotube cancelled the video for copyright, but at the same time it helped me to know the name of the song and the band : Now I'm very happy, Karem, I love you.

  • Great sounding group with a lovely lead singer that has the voice of an angel. And that smile at 3:23 is simply priceless!

  • it's the other way around I think, beststoryevertold.

i hope your name reflects the gospel because it is the greatest love story ever

  • And I do not want to be a rose

I do not wish to be pale pink

    But flower scarlet, flower gold

And have no thorns to distance me....

I have wept at those words before now.

    Beautiful song. Beautiful voice!

  • The best. I never saw anything so beautiful. Beautiful music!

  • What. Is. She. Wearing!

  • I just listened to original version by Mazzy Star and then this one. I think they just dubbed the original version over this video.

  • @thebeststoryevertold that is a pretty poor story! It amazes me how many people confuse TIM with Mazzy Star, they are like different ends of the spectrum as far as I am concerned. It goes without saying that this is just one of very many unbelievably beautiful original songs written and performed by TIM.

  • @thebeststoryevertold Actually Karen Peris of this band wrote the song. And originally performed it. Get your facts straight.

  • @thebeststoryevertold Mazzy Star? They have never performed this song to my knowledge. It's funny, when I first heard this song on the radio in the 90s, I thought it was Mazzy Star. The voice and guitar are similar. Then I went to a Natalie Merchant concert and IM opened and sang this song. I've been a huge fan ever since.

  • my parents know the people in this band, im not even kidding haha, they went to highschool with them and i think my dad said he took her to prom.. i just think thats so cool so thought id share that hahahaa

  • By far, their best.

  • Many years i listening to this song and now i see the video. Still, one of the best songs of this band.

  • Beautiful!*

  • What a lovely song sung by a lovely woman!

  • I live near the origins of this band and the guitarist, Don Paris, used to give my brother guitar lessons. Super nice people! Awesome job :D

  • Wow, I still cant get over how much I love this. Why didnt I know bout them in the 90's???

One of my fav guilty pleasure artists.

(The Cranberries, The Sunbdays, 6 pence, etc)

  • @stickman225 They were a christian band and this was their only hit from the empire records soundtrack.

  • @trevors24 They still are a christian band...check out 'my room in the trees' released earlier this year.

  • @stickman225

Why feel guilty? They are wonderful band!

  • @stickman225 I know how you feel, i was like that with Cocteau Twins. IM tho i actually caught on the radio at the time, luckily. That wouldn't happen now; now i need to listen to commercials to find new music, lol.

I know that 10k maniacs are one of their influences, but while i used to be a fan, I've long since stopped listening to anything of theirs or Natalie Merchant's solo stuff, but the innocence mission i listen to all the time. All of their stuff, early to late is like polished gems

  • @stickman225 hahah yeah, 'guilty pleasures'. another one for me would be 'crazy town - black cloud'. I despise that band and pretty much all their music but that song is in my top 5 all time, no joke. crazy how that works!

  • @zapproowsdower i don't like coldplay but the scientist is an all time fave. ;)

  • wow, what a shimmering beauty.

  • Saw them in Palo Alto CA, loved every bit of it. The kind of voice you'd like to marry.

  • I love this song! It reminds me so much of being a teenager.

  • the wonder of birds is their best

  • First heard this tune in 'Empire Records'!....an age ago.

Nice to see the vid. Thank you for posting it!

  • One more great song of them!

  • Such a beautiful song. I love her voice
