I think the best thing I band can do is stick to their old sound that the fans love, but have a few tracks here and there that push the boundaries. Throw in a few slow songs, songs with unconventional song structure etc here and there just to keep things fresh. However, if every song is radically different than what was on their previous albums the band begins to lose its identity.

Yeah, it's awesome to hear Slayer truly thrash metal it up again! After the Machine Head/Pantera/Slipknot copy cat fetish they had on "Diabolus" & "GHUA." Even "Christ Illusion" was overall weak, but this fits perfect after "Divine!" For me 3 bad songs on it but their best ina long time!

@sethshazam the thing about slayer and motorhead is that they never changed a bit. slyer did south of heaven i know, but still, it is totally exceptable if a band continues to play the same way since their debut, but its not if its the same recycled material over and over. both slayer and motorhead have the most recycle stuff ever. i like slayer and motorhead but they needto come up with different riffs, and solos and lyrics and stuff

To me Motorhead and slayer manage to still work with their own particulaer style in a way that keeps me entertained - but sure, theres a few albums here and there where they got a little too samey for my tastes. Guess what im saying is that i dont mind minor variations on the same style as long as it feels fresh. It does admittedly require one to be a really big fan of the style
