This is traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu as passed down from Chojun Miyagi - I have seen the Isshin Ryu version and it moves much faster and the first three Shiko dache stances are in a straight line rather than in nanami position.
Sensei's Bob, James, and Randy were very kind, and we were able to do some training together. I wish I would have had more time to train with these guys. My instructor and I greatly appreciate their kindness. I have nothing but good things to say about this Dojo.
I visited this Dojo when I was in Florida early 2007, they were very hospitable and it was great showing each other our versions of Kata. They are true to the art, and have great people representing their dojo.
it is a hard kata to master, i think you would benefit from getting a lower shika dachi as that would solidify your movements, is seiunchin the kata for your shodan, or do you need a higher grade kata, as with my club that is the 2nd kyu kata, is slightly different as well
I like watching all sorts of styles and i think that they are all good. Honestly however i just didn't like this version of seiunchin. Sorry the whole thing just looked insipid. It's not a personal attack at all it sjust from one karate ka to another. I know it was practice but it just wasnt there. all the best anyway and if you have anything else please post. cheers
Thanks for the comments. It was not his best demonstration of Seiunchin. He is a Shroin Ryu student who trained with us for a couple years and earned his Shodan in Goju Ryu.

Seiunchin is the kata for 2nd and 1st kyu - James has some difficulty with Shiko Dache due to chronic knee pain.

good james.. keep your elbow in when pulling him into horizontal nukite..
'uppercut' strike fm gedan uke to hip and in a straight line forward/up to throat/under jaw
think of elbow taking power at, not behind hip, as a big man, practice moving in shiko without roaching your back, at all..
be fastidious about your strong straight back..
your forearm strike to palm must 'whack!'
