How to Groom a Cat : Learn More About Fleas & Ticks on Your Cat

What do I do if my short haired cat has severe dandruff? I gave him a bath but it didn't all go away. I think it would be tramatic to him to take him to a pet groomer (a strange place, with strange people doing strange things to him). Do I have to bathe him everyday for a few days? Is there a special shampoo? I've considered washing him with Head&Shouders or Selson Blue, but those products were intended for people and might do something horrible to his coat or burn his skin.
