No, it's a strong motor. If I ever plan on going over 1,000whp then of course I will change out internals. There is a supra guy in town "doing it wrong" on purpose. He plans to go all out on his next build so he is purposely abusing it. He threw a big-ass turbo on it and runs it on 2.5-3bar+ making 1,100whp with no mods to his motor or 6spd transmission. Surprising to all of us, it's still going strong a year and a half later! Talk about overbuilding a motor from the factory. :)

There is a limit on how much you can modify a car, I say the limit on how much you can modify an american muscle car is higher then the limit on an import, so it's not that any car can beat any car. It's any modified car can beat most stock cars.
yeah that supra needs a launch control and for those who don't know what i mean by that it stops your revs at whatever you set it say 4000 rpms then hold the gas to the floor and gas goes through the exhaust and detonates in the turbo and spools it faster. and yes it's hard on the turbo but if you can afford to race every weekend then you can afford maintenence.
@eXp0N3nT1aL actually its called a 2 step not launch control, BMW's have launch control. And a 2 step is AWFUL on a car overall, it ruins so much shit its not even worth it. And that still doesn't help spool the turbo as much as is needed. Most professional Supra drag drivers use a 125-150 shot of NOS right off the line to spool the turbo (along with a 2 step). It takes a lot for a little 3.4L I6 to spool a 88mm single turbo :)

The stock engine in the supra is by far more sport oriented than that of the camaro, especially the twin turbo version. If you saw a N/A supra vs a N/A camaro, you might be surprised. If you saw a supercharged camaro vs a turbo charged (not twin turbo) supra, you might see an even race. If you saw one or the other with a fuel injected mod and not the other, it should seem obvious who would come out first.

Muscle car has the displacement and power off the line... however, when the turbo is fully on line, this is what USUALLY happens. I say usually as any car can beat any car, but Supras GENERALLY run very top heavy as most people go with large turbos. I have mine set up for track and quick spooling... that Camaro would rock me in a drag... different around a course though.
staged up he should all ready be in boost leaving the line and t88 are not the biggest turbo out there man most likely a gt40 or gt42R and the supra has a way longer gears due to the high revs the 2JZ can reach and the power curves are way way different from a v8 to a turbo straight 6 or even a inline 4 but back to the boost off the line look up 2 step or anti lag but this was an auto car so you might want to look up how a diesel truck stalls up on the converter building up boost

No, it's a strong motor. If I ever plan on going over 1,000whp then of course I will change out internals. There is a supra guy in town "doing it wrong" on purpose. He plans to go all out on his next build so he is purposely abusing it. He threw a big-ass turbo on it and runs it on 2.5-3bar+ making 1,100whp with no mods to his motor or 6spd transmission. Surprising to all of us, it's still going strong a year and a half later! Talk about overbuilding a motor from the factory. :)

yeah that supra needs a launch control and for those who don't know what i mean by that it stops your revs at whatever you set it say 4000 rpms then hold the gas to the floor and gas goes through the exhaust and detonates in the turbo and spools it faster. and yes it's hard on the turbo but if you can afford to race every weekend then you can afford maintenence.

@eXp0N3nT1aL actually its called a 2 step not launch control, BMW's have launch control. And a 2 step is AWFUL on a car overall, it ruins so much shit its not even worth it. And that still doesn't help spool the turbo as much as is needed. Most professional Supra drag drivers use a 125-150 shot of NOS right off the line to spool the turbo (along with a 2 step). It takes a lot for a little 3.4L I6 to spool a 88mm single turbo :)

@MegaHolymoly It's not about how many cylinders, its about numbers from a stock engine. The stock engine in the supra is by far more sport oriented than that of the camaro, especially the twin turbo version. If you saw a N/A supra vs a N/A camaro, you might be surprised. If you saw a supercharged camaro vs a turbo charged (not twin turbo) supra, you might see an even race. If you saw one or the other with a fuel injected mod and not the other, it should seem obvious who would come out first.

@letshavelunch77 Hey tool, it's called top end. His T88 Turbo takes time to reach full boost. Muscle car has the displacement and power off the line... however, when the turbo is fully on line, this is what USUALLY happens. I say usually as any car can beat any car, but Supras GENERALLY run very top heavy as most people go with large turbos. I have mine set up for track and quick spooling... that Camaro would rock me in a drag... different around a course though.

staged up he should all ready be in boost leaving the line and t88 are not the biggest turbo out there man most likely a gt40 or gt42R and the supra has a way longer gears due to the high revs the 2JZ can reach and the power curves are way way different from a v8 to a turbo straight 6 or even a inline 4 but back to the boost off the line look up 2 step or anti lag but this was an auto car so you might want to look up how a diesel truck stalls up on the converter building up boost

There's a smaaaaaaall problem in that comparison... Nitrous runs out.... Turbos continue to run as long as the motor runs... therefore, turbos ARE part of the motor and my comment about Top End is true. Yes, Supras would be dirt slow without turbos as they are DESIGNED with forced induction in mind.... bulletproof motor and low compression.

You know kind of like an import motor but then you could spend 40 Grand to make it fast (if it doesn't blow up in the process) and then use the fact that it's a small engine as an excuse when you loose or your turbo breaks and can't spool up your little import motor anymore. You can say hey "your car has 2 cylinders more than mine" and then someone would just tell you to f*ck off and leave racing to real cars.

I am confused at why people say it takes $40-$50 grand to make import cars fast... case in point... it cost me $1,500 for a 67mm turbo kit UPGRADE (car CAME with turbos as earlier discussed), $800 for an ECU on sale, and a couple hundred for a tune. What did this do for me? Took my stock bolt-on 464whp Supra to a track course crushing setup with 783whp. Maybe my math is wrong, but that doesn't seem to add up to $40 grand as you state.

SUVs are included as well. Go in to any dealership and ask for any of these cars, "I would like to see a Audi A4, a Mustang Cobra, a ZR1...

However for vehicle safety codes and regulations it's easier for a manufacturer to add on a S/C to make a fast car fast than it is to pump out those ponies with the motor alone.
