On youtube sometimes you miss suttle details, like in this 30 sec clip. Ive found with or without the Gi, it is quite easy to pull this off when the opponent is in some type of reverse Kesa looking for the mount... not so much sidecontol. The 1st detail is in locking out your arm in their armpit, the 2nd & most important is the core lift... from your far arm coming up from ground, to elbow, to hand...just like a kettle bell turkish get up. tech usually ends in a scramble, not side control
I think he was just demonstrating that you can't let the bottom man get his hips under yours...or else then this sweep is very valid option...my two cents.
You know this one works I have used it many times it looks like it should not work but it really works. I have been doing Jiu Jitsu for the lasst 15 some years. A guy named Silverado came up with this move a gene Le Bell black belt as well as a Machado black belt. Trust me when I saw it I went no way it does not work but it does of course every move has a counter so put it in with your moves.
The best way to get out of a sidemount is to bridge hard and fight for underhook bridge hard again and either get back to guard or back to your knees, there is no easy tech you can do to get out.
I have never seen him use this in competition or anyone else. There are so many BS techniques that work on a blue belts, don't get them mixed up with live tournament/MMA competition
if you could escape a side mount that easy everyone would escape all the time. Anyone that has mat time knows all you have to do is shift your hips or shoulders.
Well in a fight situation your mind doesn't think as clearly as in training. I've seen countless UFC fights where fighters forget the basics or "trick moves" for escape, even after the same fighters have shown it in a training video on youtube or somewhere else. Aside from this, you're sounding like you THINK you know more than Dean Lister (you know, the best grappler in the World).
Technically yes I know more then Dean, I started back in 94 so I have some years on him, me a better grappler then him probably not, been a good teacher and a good grappler/fighter is a whole other. So anyways If I put even Dean on a sidemount he would not get out using this technique.
elio gracie is the best fighter in the world then or was. You are obviously some nerd blue belt wanabe UFC fighter, I have coached and trained with the best in the world. Keep learning of youtube. Ps if we were face to face you would not say shit, so don't act tough online it just makes you look stupid
Dude I'm not the punk who jumped on here and tried to instruct a pro on how to do their job. I believe that was you. And Kimura beat Helio, so that made him the best fighter in the world at the time. So...who are the big name stars in the UFC you've "trained" so far? I'd rather learn greco-roman wrestling on youtube than Jitz. PS... I hope we do cross paths one day. My pic is on my profile, remember my face I may run into you one of these days. lol@ you talkin smack bout "if we met face to face"
Wow so scary I am 235 6'1 and trade with the best of them. I can tell by how fat you are you have no cardio, and you are far from a pro, like I said you just some nerd learning of you tube.
In a real fight you would wake up wondering what happen. Anyways I am done arguing with some UFC poser
What's scary? I said remember the face. Because somewhere, somehow...we will bump into to each other...it's a small world. And when I said "instruct a pro on how to do their job" I didn't mean me, I meant Dean Lister you puttz. I play rugby on the weekend at number 8 (the 2nd most mobile person on the field) so I'm far from fat, you try playing a full 80mins of rugby @ a high intense pace, I bet you wouldn't last the first half. Not to mention I lift weights and do jitz & boxing twice a week.
But to answer your question no I am not, it's been about 4 years now, I remember watching black belt tournaments in slow motion and figuring out how things real work that was in the early 90 you were just a kid that knew nothing and so was lester.
I'm sorry, I didn't realise that your credentials included watching lots of videos in slow motion! That changes everything. I now believe that you know more than Dean Lister about submission grappling. I'm sorry I doubted you.
Well let's see I have been in the sport since 93-94 and have coached some of the top fighters in the world so seeing a stupid technique like this makes me laugh. How about you try it on some one that is at least at purple belt level and let me know how it turns out.
What fighters? This is a simple move with a simple concept, but it works. Its just another variation of a bridge which is really effective even at the top level. Xande Ribeiro has super success with this technique and hes a 4x World Jiu-Jitsu Champion, 2x ADCC Champion, and 5x Pan American Champion. If you are as prestigious you say you are, you'd know that. An I would like to know who are these "top fighters" you've produced.
notice the exact position of the hand on the byceps - it's on pushing from "behind" the elbow, getting the right vector considering the shoulder and twisting the guy's torso..
With good timing and conviction the north-south would'nt help, since the escapee is also sitting-up.
very good technique. Pedro Sauer showed me something very similar last year. It doesn't really have to do with the person on top being strong, more or less its about the energy they are giving you.
if an opponent is stronger then that is always an advantage they will have but remember if you can place an opponent off balance it makes things a lot easier, if someone in the position above me is too high above me then this move works like a charm. Although I will admit it is a "trick" move, it still works well.
no.. your probably good.. its just that in side control you should never have both arms on one side of your opponent like that. it nullifies your position. usually in side control your using head and arm control or far should and arm in hip control.

2. "Don't act tough online it just makes you look stupid"
I can hardly believe that these two quotes came from the same person. Are you high or something?

That is slick stuff. I've been doing submission for 6 years and I've never seen that move. I guess I've got more holes in my game thatn I thought.

yeah, i know this was along time ago. I am more schooled now. this escape works great. if the person is riding low on you. thats all.
