Soooo. This was a fight from 1999. One of Ben's first fights, and one of the first sanctioned fights in Ohio. MMA was hardly known at that time, and the fat kid thought he was doing some kind off WWF backyard stuff. The ref was Jeremy Horn, and the rules were crazy. Open palms only on the ground, no knees at all, etc. The combination of everything led to a pretty horrid ending. Jeremy should have called that about 2 seconds into the match. (the match was probably a minute in here)

@rankinmt Actually that "fat kid" is not a pro fighter, he is actually a very very good friend of mine who did it for an experience. Yes, he got his ass kicked, but it goes to show he can take one hell of a beating and he's a lover not a fighter.

Just to clarify when this fight happened, Rothwell was 19, and the kid was 17. Also, it was an AMATEUR match. The only pros that fought were Dan Severn and Brad Kohler, who were the headliners. The show was called Ultimate Wrestling, and it was 6-25-99, promoted by Monte Cox.

Soooo. This was a fight from 1999. One of Ben's first fights, and one of the first sanctioned fights in Ohio. MMA was hardly known at that time, and the fat kid thought he was doing some kind off WWF backyard stuff. The ref was Jeremy Horn, and the rules were crazy. Open palms only on the ground, no knees at all, etc. The combination of everything led to a pretty horrid ending. Jeremy should have called that about 2 seconds into the match. (the match was probably a minute in here)

Folks, this was a first round fight in a low level promotion tournament.
BOTH of these fighters were 1-0 going into this fight.
When you enter a tournament, you don't get to pick your opponent. It's not Rothwell's fault that the guy came into the fight out of shape.
BTW, the "fat kid" is still fighting.

And the funny part is these mismatchs still happens to this day, Ben only has enough ability to beat people who are basically untrained or low level. He just has a mediocre manager that can arrange the fights in his own promotion. The only attribute Ben has when fighting elites is he can take a wicked beating himself. Ben is synonymous with Bum.
