I love this scene. I agree that it is one of the most powerful scenes in Buffy. I cried. And when I saw the spike reacted I cried harder. The fact that he reacted like that just shows how much he really loved Buffy.
"Dawn, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. But this is the work that I have to do. Tell Giles... tell Giles I figured it out. And, and I'm okay. And give my love to my friends. You have to take care of them now. You have to take care of each other. You have to be strong. Dawn, the hardest thing in this world... is to live in it. Be brave. Live. For me."
justb think though if buffy would have stayed dead then the next slayer in line would have been faith from season 3 and therefore we would have had the rogue slayer still. because it was only due to the fact buffy died and came back that angel needed help, which therefore turned faith to good again :)
Supposedly, the original plan was to have Buffy watch as Dawn jumped. That would have been interesting and to see how season 6 would have been if it had happened. But this scene is amazing and I cry everytime I watch it.
What makes this crazy emotionally sad is the fact that Dawn was never really her sister; all the memories Buffy had of her were fictional. They were all created by the monks who were trying to hide the key from Glory. Despite knowing this, Buffy gave her life to save her, and what's more, threatened to kill any of her friends to attempted to kill Dawn. This is because Dawn, sister or not, was an innocent pawn in the whole thing. That's what makes all of this beautiful, and a great show.
This is arguably the greatest show in the history of dramatic tv. Easily the best most original story arcs. I was 15 when this aired, one of the most emotional nights of my childhood.
A part of me wanted Buffy to end this way. She lost her mother and she comes to acknowledge her duty as a slayer. Sacrificing her life for her sister and the world in the selfless and bravest thing to die for.
@alexlovescarbs89 i totally agree with you. i really like buffy but after this i think the show started to fall apart. i know that buffy had to evolve but she cometely lost her old self.
@alexlovescarbs89 Yeah, until she was brought back by her friends. I can't decide whether I like that or not... it would've made a brilliant ending, but it also gave me more Buffy/Spike, as well as intense emotional scenes from the whole cast. However, I'm not too fond of season 7. All those stupid "Potentials" really pissed me off. I don't think there was a single one I liked. I hated some of them more than I hate Dawn, which is REALLY something.
@alexlovescarbs89 well, I remember, this was the last episode that aired on the WB for BVS. So they advertised it as "SERIES FINALE". When they appeared on UPN about a year or so later, I was surprised. I kind of liked and disliked this as the ending of BVS, I mean, I loved it because it was kind of full circle, but I hated it because she died. In the real end of BVS, I have to say it was pretty good with Spike's death.
@ERAUPRCWA They appeared only a few months later, just like any season following the last. I have mixed feelings about the last two seasons, but I appreciate that the final season was meant to be the last one from the beginning, so they could build up to closing that it deserved. The WB cancelled the show toward the end of season 5, so the Glory/Dawn story wasn't originally designed to be the the last one, they had to drive it in that direction once they got the news.
@chasef89 I don't think The WB canceled Buffy. They just wouldn't hurry up with the renewal (because the show was expensive), so 20th Century Fox shopped elsewhere and found UPN. I believe there was already a deal made before this episode even aired. It was just those who weren't into the internet buzz that fell victim to The WB's poor advertising prank (I believe they claimed they meant it as their series finale of having Buffy on their network and not the show's actual ending).
@MysteryChair It was mostly because of the time card, more shows were starting and they were starting to not have enough room for Buffy, I have the chosen one series collection and in an interview Joss, the producers and such said.
Even though I agree that for a significant amount of time, Dawn is a rather annoying character, I've got to give her dues for being willing to sacrifice herself for her friends and the world.
The brat is pretty darn badass when she needs to be.
When Buffy goes to fight the Master in 'Prophecy Girl', she instructs Jenny to tell Giles "tell him... I don't know. Think of something cool, tell him I said it." Now she finally has an answer.
(Thumbs up if you think this little piece of ignored symmetry should be acknowledged)
I think this is an amazing season finale but definitely not a series finale. If this was it, it would have left a million open questions and think of all the things that wouldn't have been done. Omwf, tabula rasa, willows evilness, the potentials.. All of it
For those of you who think this should have been the end to the series.....WTF? She's just supposed to stay dead, really? What kind of crap is that. The hero just doesn't die and that's it. It'd make for a really idiotic story.
It should have ended here, this was beautiful and captured the feel of the series. By the end of season 7......I disliked pretty much everyone exept Spike :|
I'm a huge fan of Buffy! I'm 22 now but this scene always makes me feel like a teenager when it was first shown. I wouldn't say I cried at this, I was more lost for words than anything. Think I was in denial that she died lol. I cried at the last episode of Buffy though. To know there wouldn't be any more :-(
Thank you it's touch my heart and soul we need a love story A Vampire who fall in love with the slayer In Season 5 Spike said he will die for buffy...and he did in season 7 spike die to save the world he new that the world was come to end spike never let not happen to buffy or her sister spike was doing has best to be with buffy
This is one clip I remember from this season. The best one, the one that really get me. The one that makes me cry the most, if only for the fact that Spike cries.
I always get teary in this part. This episode is one of my favorites because a) Buffy finally gets some peace, b)it shows how much Buffy loves her family and c) i think the music and speech at the end are the things that make this death a "better" death than the one in season one. my favorite line is "Dawn the hardest thing to in this world is to live in it, be brave, live for me".
Best show ever I watch it all the time and u guys r right best and most beautiful death scene ever and @ 41 when the music starts I think I start to cry a lil :( poor Buffy how many times dose she have to die to save the world :c
Why is it always Buffy! I cry every time i watch this! At 2:30 Spikes in denial and at 2:44 you can see how much he loved her by how hard he's crying. Most beautiful death their ever was in a movie. I only wish Buffy could their pain righ this second so she'd kno she was loved.
woah-- three things: 1. spike looks so incredibly young here compared to s.6 and 7. look at him crying. so heartbreaking 2. i love how willow isn't afraid of doing the "ugly cry" @ 2:33. 3. i love the dawn's reaction when she realizes that buffy is going to jump @ 54 sec.
I love buffy so much (picture gif of castiel from supernatural crying)
