I can but agree , Serge Gainsbourg was perhaps the greatest genius of French contemporary music, everything he wrote for his ex-companion Jane birkin is amazing, and I'm not talking about what he did under his own name! Now, if you like this you might want to check out what he wrote for other French artists (women actresses mainly): Isabelle Adjani and Catherine Deneuve, or for France Gall in the mid sixties!
@Esquare85: yes, I realize that it's about Marilyn Monroe. when I said "written for Jane Birkin" I meant "written for her to perform" on that extraordinary album. it is truly a beautiful and haunting melody, written by a musical genius.
