@piffle64 That wasn't strictly true, though. He invented the ringtone synthesizer and played the version you hear on the phones but the composer was Francisco Tarrega and it was lifted from a tune called Gran Vals. You probably knew that already but I thought I'd mention it as some people say he actually composed it.
Awesome music from this man, this is my favorite Dolby tune, showcases all his great abilities, electronics creating groove, mood and atmosphere! The Golden Age of Wireless is a MUST for ALL 80's music fans!!
Got the first album "Golden Age Of Wireless" on pristine vinyl back in 82/83 without "She Blinded me..." on it like the cd issues-I hate that song but love this!
I've been listening to this particular song for a few decades now. I still love it and have to hear the whole thing whenever I come across it! Bitchin' memories!!!
Have been watching this performance of WINDPOWER on and off for the last 27 years as I recorded it on my (then) new VCR from TOTP. It remains one of the best performances I ever saw on the programme and is an amazing song! Hope you are well Thomas and look forward to hearing new material.
Windpower is one of the strongest and most important tracks on GAoW. If you saw him play this live, then you know what a well-tuned Simmons kick can do to your gut! Dolby is a genius. This track just kicks my ass.
AGREED - A GENIUS. Saw him live in December 2005 - and this was among my favorite pieces he performed that evening. He is a very talented (not to mention handsome) fellow and I only hope I am fortunate enough to see him play live again one day. He also has a wonderful sense of humor during his shows. And SO intense. Another great work of his GENIUS = "One of Our Submarines".
If your a child of the 80's like me, The Golden Age of Wireless has got to be in your huge collection of CDs with zero dust on the case. It's a must have. Or you have the album loaded in your mp3 player too like me! Can't get enough of it 25 years later.
@JWJNC Uh, really? It seems to me the reason music today is such unbelievable garbage is because they forgot whatever they knew from the '60s to '80s. The last good year of music was 1992.
Just read an article on the BBC news website - Thomas Dolby is responsible for the Nokia ringtone!

I think you'll find that this era has never been over! Everything that followed it was born out of it and today its all come back again!

The 1980's music will never be over lljames2. That music brought so many things to current music that are still being used to this day.
