  • Amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing really Best Thaaaaaanks really thanks you just make me happy :)))

  • It seem to me The balance of the tree is leaning far to the left side although the trunk grow to the right... and the roots are dead..

  • Graham, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish the work you've done with this juniper for fear of botching the thing right to the rubbish bin. But I would have chosen a more rounded (nearly flat) apex. Would that have been displeasing to the eye in this case?

  • @BackSeatHump I like it this way ;-) See the update of this plant on my channel.

    G.

  • @GrahamWPotter Fair enough. I've just seen the update and I'll have to agree with you. Nice job.

One thing though: In the update it looks as though you've cleaned the shari with water and then (immediately?) applied lime sulphur. Is it not necessary for it to be fully dry before that application?

  • @BackSeatHump Lime sulphur will not bind properly to dry wood.G.

  • @GrahamWPotter

Really? I had no idea and it's a damned good thing you told me now as I'll be doing my first lime sulfur job as soon as the weather warms up. Ta!

BTW. If it hasn't already been said your videos are the best, for several reason that include your presentation and the camera is always where it should be. I'm highly impressed.

    BackSeatHump,

  • Beautiful tree. Both before and after.

  • could you make more japanese maple videos?

  • I've got to ask a stupid question...Is that one solid tree or is it a tree that is rapped up on a piece of dead wood?

  • @jdvalero Of course it's one tree.

    G.

  • Excellent video, great quality material like this is hard to come by and takes years to develop and you have done a fantastic job, every tree has a soul and you have done justice to this one to find it, good job.

  • Mr. Potter, Once again you make a wonderful tree and video. You are the man!!

    Keep up the good work!

  • hello, where do you buy such large bonsai trees? all i can find are small ones that are incredibly over priced but i would like to find a large neglected tree like that one that needs lots of attention and work...

  • Dear Mr. Potter and Rammon: I was just given a similarly overgrown bonsai tree and was looking for guidance and this was EXACTLY the video I needed to see! I have bookmarked your website for continuing help and inspiration. Thank you very much! Cheers, Michael B

    G.

  • the beggining was much better than what it looked like at the end

  • nah way better after he started hacking at it

  • Hi Graham, I would like to buy this tree, is that possible ?

  • I like what he did with the trunk... but I liked its overall shape better before he worked on it. then again I say this as a complete noob to bonsai art.

  • how did you make the foliage into pads and where did you get the tree in the first place cause it looks amazin

  • The overall outcome of the tree is amazing. Initially i thought it looked fine, but the finished product is amazing

  • Where did the white trunk come from? I know it is a grapht, but what?

  • @iAirsoft69

  • great video great job

  • Hello, i've made my first bonsai, and i'm searching for experienced people who can give me tips about my juniper bonsai, there's a video of it on my channel. Please watch and comment. Thanks!

  • what a magnificent tree...wow. How old is it??

  • 外人のセンスは分からんが、切らない方が綺麗だったんじゃないの?

  • that's huge!!!!!!

  • Beautifully done. An excellent demonstration of bonsai techniques and principles.

  • it looks like it was grafted early on

  • Amazing, Great Job. This is a very good demonstration.

  • Do not cut tthis tree again, please, at the begining it was perfect!

  • @alonsotoro he had to the trunk wasnt strong enough to suport all that foleage

  • Thank you!! Good info and visual for someone trying to learn...me! Thx!

  • beautiful

  • how do you get it so big? did it start off small?

  • how do you get it so big? did it start off small?

  • how do you get it so big? did it start off small?

  • @TheHarvey234

This tree was likely grown in the ground or a very large training pot for several years. It might also be yamadori (a collected tree).

  • beautiful tree!!

  • is the shari part of the original tree, or was the tree grafted, or grown to the deadwood?

  • hello sir are you using coper wire??

  • hello sir are you using coper wire??

  • hello sir are you using coper wire??

  • hello sir are you using coper wire??

  • WOW!!!

  • This tree is nice, I can also find so many great tree on iTunes, there is an iPhone app named iLiveBonsai there!

  • Comment removed

  • i liked it before you started hacking away at it.. cool tree tho

  • haha. lol me 2. what a waste of time.

  • @eleanorskelter

Everything he said about the tree at the beginning was spot on. It was unbalanced. Bonsai have certain aesthetic guidelines that dictate things such as ratios (many different ones), branch arrangement, and even things like the relationship of the pot to the tree (the pot is the frame, the tree is the painting). I say guidelines because they aren't set rules and "breaking" these rules can be used to great advantage if one understands these rules and their application well.

  • @eleanorskelter its too much for the bonsai.. there are certain rules and techniques in bonsai

  • @lamrimeater there are techniques not rules i belive a bonsai tree is what you make it out to be. Unles your in a competition.

  • @eleanorskelter it grows back ;)

  • How old is this tree ?

  • why you cutting the tree? why?

  • he is reshaping it buddy, it is cruel but nessesary

  • @MrSmartComment

I just know that I will regret asking this question but in what sense do you see it as "cruel"?

  • I'm from Brazil and I don't like your videos, I've been watch everyday, and all the time I watch them, I want to put my bonsai in the garbage LOL

Just kidding, I love you're videos and I always check to see if there is something new, I hope one day get half as good as you. CONGRATULATIONS

  • this is an amazing tree

  • wow..how much is that

  • Bonsais are expensive :( and a tree that big if someone bought it at that size would probably be more than $100.

  • That tree is probably worth eight to ten thousand dollars -- and it is at least sixty years old.

  • @chasnsx I guess it depends on the age I guess?

  • Age, growth rate, scarcity, and appearance of the tree. Chinese junipers like this one are very slow growing, and scarce. All the old junipers have been stripped from the mountains in Japan, so the supply of trees like this for bonsai is finite.

  • @chasnsx Oh wow! I never noticed that bonsais in japan have been stripped from the mountains :S people still sell them everywhere. I don'tget it.... I have a juniper bonsai though :S they aren't too expensive to be honest. Maybe it's just the green houses' price?

  • @chasnsx no it sayd in the video that the ppl who were takeing care of it didnt cut it properly so it growed alot more than it should have

  • @Yondajme What do you mean? If you don't cut it properly it grows more?

  • @Myobokuuzan well the whole reason we cut the bonsai is 2 ceep it small and in shape but if you dont cut it properly it will start growing more if it wasnt in a pot it would start growing like a normal tree

  • @Yondajme Oh I see. So You have to be very careful when you prune the trees? Otherwise they would grow very tall? Something like that?

  • @Myobokuuzan no you just have 2 make sure you prune your bonzai if it goes out of shape

  • @Myobokuuzan the prize of the tree tepends on its age not the size

  • this is my favorite out of all his vids

  • how long did it take to grow that size?

  • probs uh 25-30 years but he probably got it from somewhere and let it grow for about 5-10years, guese

  • so over all its like 40 years old

  • thats what she said

  • Beautiful birdsong

  • how do you get the dead wood part id like ta learn

  • whats the purpose of wiring them, and how did you attach the deadwood trunk to the real trunk?

  • dude that is beutiful

  • very nice!

only problem i have with it (don't get mad if this sounds stupid...i am only a beginner bonsai hobbyist) is that there is a branch on the bottom with no foliage which looks like it could be cut off.

  • It look lovely now, why would you want to remove fol-li-age thats hows its said not Fol-lage its got an "li" in the middle.

  • maybe to much design and to less bonsai

  • my respects

  • that is an amazing tree

  • hes the master

  • very cool good work im getting my girlfreind one for christmas thinking of getting myself one to looks like something worth doing.

  • Very nice work. That is a beautiful tree. Obviously some of the other people that commented don't know much about bonsai method.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, you plant it in a field and leave it for 70 years. :)

  • Thats a stunning tree. 5*

  • the second he brought out the dremel i cringed, but it is a beautiful tree

  • This is the very episode that got me hooked on to your program mr. Potter... this was an exelent video...

  • oh wow, this is one beautiful little tree

  • Awsome guys, well done

  • pretty!

  • magestic work!!

  • Very Helpfull video... 5 Stars!!!!!

  • that was fukn wicked :)

  • 切り過ぎです...

  • complimenti per il tuo ginepro bonsai bellissimo posso chiedere quanti anni ci vogliono per avere questa altezza. grazie un saluto dall'italia(napoli) ciao

  • Poetry.

  • I'm speechless, that's amazing! I'm kinda new to bonsai growing so i've just got a few questions:

    1. how does wiring the tree work exactly? - does it change the shape of the growth of the main trunk itself & the other smaller trunks?

    2. how did you change the shape of the main trunk so much and so fast at the end of day 1/start of day 2 (mainly the top part)?

That tree must be worth loads! it looks like its been growing for absolutely ages!

  • amazing tree , thank you for ur video .BIG DIFERENTS i also like the singing of the birds ,, do you have birds?

  • Bad ass.

  • Excellant presentation, I will have to view all your bonsai videos, perhaps I can learn how, I'm wondering what other types of trees are suitable for this type work 5*

  • Excellent. Thanks!

     Bonsai9723

  • I'm a complete amateur but I really liked the Before picture. I thought it looked really good before the demonstration.

Don't get me wrong I really like the After picture but there was a great raw beauty to the tree before the demo.

The Before tree seems like something you might come across on a hike. The After tree seems like something you might find on a hike to Mordor.

Thanks so much for the Demo and for your incredible skill.

  • I too find "raw" natural beauty more apealing, rather than highly stylized bonsais...

    btw, mordor, lol

  • Excellent short video Graham. You make it look tooooooo easy. BC

  • That's what happens when a hobby turns into an obsession! Awesome video, if I wasn't already hooked i'd be out buying that tree!

  • i hate the soing, but nice video

  • I don't think I should say what I said when I saw the result, but let's just say IMPRESSIVE

  • Great job! Out of curosity , what is retail for this tree at nursery?

  • hi tharocwargrider, thnx for your reaction, im look like im poor, but im loving doing it:D it is somethg different with copper, but when you doing it more often you get used to it, like the most things. good wiring a tree takes a lot of time, but in the end the styleing becomes much easier and the result better. also dewiring goes lot better then. bye

  • I hope you make more of these, top video!

  • beatifull

  • wow thanks

  • chang248 the name of the songs are on the credits at the end!

BTW the birds singing are in the garden and not an extra track or part of the song!

    :)

    Sara x

  • Informative video, thanks.
