Why is it that Fruvous songs like "Stuck in the 90's", "The Gulf War Song" and others still ring true to this day, nearly 2 decades later? Please tell me I'm not the only one who has noticed this.
Sorry, but why, of all the strong points on their debut disc was THIS the first single they offered up? Was it because their publicity team felt nobody would accept them for their true strengths, the pure a cappella stuff, like Lazy Boy, or their signature tune King of Spain? Was that too 'edgy' or something? Ask any fan: This should not have been the first single! It's like telling the Barenaked Ladies to release 'What a Good Boy' instead of 'If I had 1,000,000 dollars' - doesn't make sense...
It's funny. They're singing about the '90s...but it could just as easily apply to this decade. ...unfortunately. *sigh* Also...I wish I'd got to see these guys before they broke up. They had such gorgeous harmonies. :(
@datalal624 that is one reason I love (and miss) Fruvous... the harmonies.
and as for songs standing true even decades later (this song is now almost 20 years old). Point and case - The Gulf War Song. listen to that one, and tell me that doesn't still apply today
I was stuck in the '70s yesterday and early this morning, and finally MADE it back to the '90s with all of the disco and earthy designs... wait a second, "WHATTT?? It's now possible to be STUCK in the '90s?" I feel old....
Fruvous pretty much defined my teenage years. They left the scene just as unceremoniously as they came, and the music scene will never again see a band quite like them ever again. Whenever I wax reminiscent about Fruvous and I get the unavoidable puzzled look from whomever I'm talking too, I always feel proud that I heard the music, saw the shows, and that I was there.
I have never sent a text message! I have never written a blog! I have never downloaded anything from iTunes! I don't own a piece of music that uses Autotune! Fuck the 21st Century!
@Jeebus Jian is not the lead singer of Moxy Fruvous, Dave Mathews was the main lead singer, although there is a couple songs that Mike, Murray and Jian were the lead singers off. :)
Ye, much like others here, I also recently REdiscovered them, I last listened to them when I was like 8-11, so it's been a good 7 years :)
Brings back good memories, and now I listen to their music from a whole other point of view! They actually have plenty to say and many of their vocal arrangements are simply genius!
Let's make a petition for them to get back together :P
I was 9 the first time i heard these guys around 1993... I just rediscovered them....I really wish they got back together...this is about the closest you can get to real music.
I second that, people today have no style or taste or even talent. I can barely watch MuchMusic these days without wanting to punch someone in the teeth after watching for 15 seconds. But its just motivating me to create some tunes.
@sannitig Totally agree, this is such great music. My sister can't stand it when I play Moxy Fruvous, she refuses to see the beauty of the music and the talent it takes to sing a cappella. They make me proud to be Canadian :D
It's so weird seeing Jian in his younger days again. I, like so many others, wore out the tape (and many years later, bought a replacement at a good, old fashioned record store) when it first came out. Nostalgia takes over when I listen to this, and my sentiments are the same. Oh, for the 80's and 90's -- I miss them...
Ha! I remember Jian went he worked at FAB on Queen Street. I'd go in there everytine I visited T.O. just to see him....I'm so glad to see he made a name for himself!
I love the "Muskrat Love" undercurrent on this song. Totally brilliant. I only discovered this band a few months ago, long after they were done. Can't believe I missed out on them.
I've never seen a fruvous video before. I LOVE this album. i listened to it like nuts when it first came out. these guys completely helped shape the way i sing. i have played this album so many times. thanks for this upload.
Thanks for posting this. Being from VA I never got a chance to see their videos, but got to catch 6 or 7 live shows. Wow they look so young in this video!
Look up Oscar Biscet and tell me what a wonderful place Cuba is again.

They say when you're young and not a liberal it means you have no heart, and if you're older and not a conservative it means you have no brain.
How old are they?

Check out Jian today. Look up QTV on Youtube. He's the man.
What a guy. I used to own a Moxy Fru vest!!! Bought it at one of their concerts. Classic.

@4Dark2Star0 I have heard "The Gulf War Song". And yes, it's very eery how easily it applies to today's wars in the Middle East.

Haven't seen this video since like 1994 so I thought I'd search it. I had NO IDEA at all that CBC's Jian Ghomeshi was the lead singer of this band.
My mind is blown.

he is not yucky!! but neither is he a sugary confection, i suppose.
(i would most likely give him a high five, and then maybe buy a regular hot fudge sundae and share it with him.)

Früvous came first, but BNL were the first to get a major-label CD release. Früvous disbanded around the same time BNL went mainstream.
