Oh and for all you guys that think your rite and know it all.... firehawk wasnt the best firebird... ws6 wasnt the best T/A... there was a reg firebird.. usualy 3.8v6.. Trans am and formula... the WS6 was a performance package for the T/A.. Its not a WS6 hood... Its a Ram air hood... it was available W/o the ws6 pkg.. and firehawk was a slp performance package available in limited quantity in both the T/a and the formula coupes and convertables.. most firehawks dont have all the slp options..

Ive got a one of one 2000 artic white firehawk T/A.. still own the stock motor/trans.. but put a BA LS6 in it... ginormous cam. 4.90 moser rearend w/detroit lockers. 2" lowered. T56 re-geared buy Viper Racing Performance. anyway... it runs mid 10s... normally.. i also own a basic stock T/A and a 3.8v6... total of 3 birds... its the only"car" ill ever own.. Your right it isn't stock but I only have H/I/E and don't even have a tune and that is what I'm putting down to the wheels. I don't see where my car is "rice". Just because it is an import doesn't make it rice. I have no wing and 4.5" fart can on it so.... Plus my 3.8L v6 is putting out 270whp... show me a domestic v6 that puts 263hp out and dosn't take much to reach 270whp. I deal with Amercan muscle on a daily basis so don't think I don't know anything about them.

I know I'm digging up a dead post, but the WS6 and Firehawk packages were both built with help from SLP. The Firehawk appearance and performance package started off strictly as an upgrade to the Formula, but was extended to the Trans Am later on. The WS6 package could be had on the Formula or Trans Am. The WS6 was aimed more for owners that would be taking the car to autocross events. The Firehawk was a performance package aimed more for the enthusiast that wanted a badass street car.

What a waste of gas. The Eclipse never stood a chance. I remember the first time I worked on a WS-6 at HiFi Buys. I had never paid attention to that model before. The engine growl was unbelievable. The autograph under the hood was a nice touch. The exhaust note was up there with the Viper GTS and Diablo VT, as far as how they sounded in our garage & parking lot. Sweet.

The Eclipse (coupe) runs low 14s best case scenario stock, the t/a runs low 13s stock. If it's any closer it would be hard to tell...eclipse V6s need a turbo or something to hang with V8s, especially when they have exhaust done.

The new eclipse responds great to mods. With just I/H/E there doing mid 13's with crappy 60' times... like 2.3. I also didn't say the eclipse would win stock... I said it would be a closer race... and it would. Theres guys with a fully loaded eclipse all stock doing 14.0 and I know a guy with a stock auto that has done a 13.8.

Srt-4.... has and can hit 13.6- 13.8 stock. Mazda speed3... the same with a good driver can hit 13.8-14.0.. Eclipse GT.. can hit 13.8-14.0 all stock.

It really depends on what you see as fast. I see anything that can hit in the 13- low 14s as a fast stock car. Now if you going to pull out the 12's and say that is only a fast car then I would have to disagree. I remember a time when people thought a low 15 sec car was fast.

Both the Mazdaspeed and the SRT4 run in the 14s stock- with a manual and a driver willing to punish the transmission and drivetrain those numbers are possible.

Those numbers are BEST POSSIBLE SCENARIO from those cars- not the mainstream experience for most drivers.

You're right though- it depends on what one considers fast. Low 15s were considered fast in the 80s. Low 14s were delivered by LT1 fbodys in the early 90s- the only imports delivering those numbers were 300zxTT, supraTT and RX7T

All in all there are "fast" front wheel drive cars out there just not what I would think of as crazy fast... but fast nontheless. I was just pointing out that being a different model elcipse (coupe and 6sp) it would have been a much closer race. The WS6 would have still pulled but not as bad.

Not all for handling, look at some F body vids, you'll see some Transam, WS6 hawks etc.... and the whole camaro line up drifting pretty well. I still hope to have my WS6 in the next 12 months.

That's BS import propaganda, for the money the fbody is probably the best performance (handling and speed) that you can get. Fbodys do well in the 1/4 and on the track.
