They didn't change the melody because it was too high, but mostly because the old stakkatos wouldn't sound good with a modern voice. So they had to find a more melodious theme. The new melody is a variation of a part from the old version, so not really totally new, still in the tradition of the old siren.

And I personally find that a gliding melody fits the image of an enchanting mystical creature more than stakkato notes.

@HeartsEyes Yeah i can see what you mean, but from listening to Anette sing Everdream and Dark Chest of Wonders, i can tell where her peak note is by the sound of her voice and this song is in fact too high for her. I think they changed it both because stakkato wouldnt fit her voice AND because she would have to fall into her false voice to sing it

As much as i love this song...Annette is a very good singer...for her own songs...but this song..was Tarja's...as much as all the previous songs that she sang w/ when she was in the band...but if u hear closely to the background voice....its Tarja's.....near the end and the begining...sry Annette , but Tarja's voice is what made me love this song even more..other than the lyrics to it =D

Well, I'm guessing her clothes, gestures AND dying her hair blonde after months of having it black gave me this impression, but it's just a thought in between the songs, and not sth meant to insult her or whatever ;) (somehow Angela Gossow or A.Sommerville don't give me that feeling tho.. ;P)

Comparing those is unevitable, since Nightwish existed very long with the previous singer, and they are playing many old songs now, which triggers some thoughts in those who were fans for quite a long time. Od Anette se mi nejvíc líbí 7 days to wolves. Jinak, víc se mi prostě líbí starý dobrý Nightwish s Tarjou. Tohle je jako nějáká jiná skupina. Neříkám, že strašná, sama si ráda poslechnu nějáký skladby s Anette. A ještě jedna věc: nemusím její zpěv na živo... Ale co, je to můj subjektivní názor. Jestli se to někomu líbí, ať si jde za svým. I guess she was sick or had an allergy. Her voice was a bit hoarse. And things didnt go well with the band on that day. There was something wrong.

Anyway I like when Anette sings The Siren (pleease, dont kill me for that! xD). Different than Tarja's version, but still good. Maybe the only song that Anette can sing quite good.
