Obtain a current guidebook. Those published by the ATC, and the "Thru-Hiker's Handbook" (Dan "Wingfoot" Bruce" are highly recommended. There's an excellent article on Lyme Disease and hiking the AT in a recent ATC Journal (bi-monthly magazine). Snakes, black bear, skunks, ticks are out there and you should definitely learn what to do if and when you encounter them.

nice video! i am planning to hike the appalachian trail. i have a pretty good idea of what to bring with me, but idk. any tips???
