Episode 2: VIRTUA FIGHTER 2 vs TEKKEN 2 (VERSUS BATTLECAST)

VF 2 in my book. The soundtrack and animated characters we're amazing and styles of martial arts were real and ahead of its time.

Even though I prefer Tekken over VF, I think VF2 is a more "matured" fighter than Tekken 2. I loved T2 and played it to death, but Tekken mastered its formula with T3, while VF did the same with VF2. The truth is, you can still go back and play VF2 after 5, but it's really, REALLY hard to play T2 after T5 or 6. So even though it's Tekken all the way for me, I think VF2 is simply a better second installment.

One of the best comparisons both are great classic games, however I prefer VF2 over Tekken 2 because it has a bigger replay value and it still feels challenging even after all those years...

I never actually played Virtua Fighter but I can never get over how the characters fall after being launched.The characters look like they float bit; looks retarded. In Tekken, you can actually feel the weight of the characters. Also in VF, some the animations end too fast, making the game looks stiff. I just doesn't flow. Tekken takes it for me.

I've always been a fan for both, but I found myself playing VF2 more and I still do to this day on my Saturn. Both are classics though!

yeah, tekken is pretty good, but comparing it to the majesty of virtua fighter 2 is unfair. I stopped playing tekken 2 at least a decade ago, but i still play VF2.

VF2 is the SF2 of 3D fighting games. Tekken's a fun game, but in terms of quality, there's really no comparison.

The thing I find very interesting about VF is the fact that you can quickly end the fight with expertly timed attacks. Tekken on the other hand goes into more a combo system that has the player juggling the other. I think in terms fighting both have their unique ways of play. If you go all out on combos in VF then you will get canned. Same goes for tekken on VF.

I'D SAY VIRTUA FIGHTER 2...

is the better game. But, overall, I still PREFER the Tekken series - on the whole.

Tekken had more interesting characters with 'cooler' fighting disciplines, storylines, fantastic music and more interesting surroundings imo.

I also favoured Namco's use of 4 buttons, with a traditional 'back' block as well as some Capcom/SNK style move executions.

Tekken has much more personality, style & atmosphere, which works better for me > VF's more clinical & sterile approach.

Has anyone notice now boring Tekken 2 looks when directly compared to VF2 in this expert playthrough? I can't believe how much more exciting VF2 appears; T2 looks linear. What kept me playing T2 was trying to pull off all the 10 hit strings, multi breaks and friends who got the game. VF2 problem was that not many people I knew could play to that level which opens more versatility than T2.

Gonna forward this video to my friends as everyone should watch this VS series! Cant wait for the next one.

To me it always that it was a war between flashy moves (Tekken) and Depth (Virtua Fighter) and with that in mind I can safely say I will always go with Segas Virtua Fighter, original and best.

Easy to exicute flashy moves will always win the day when it comes to popularity so you'll always find more fans of Tekken than Virtua Fighter.

Frankly I'm just excited to play VF5:FS when it releases on XBLA!

I'm favouriteing this series in hopes that one day you'll do a Ridge Racer vs. OutRun!

This is the best Virtua Fighter 2 video I've seen! From this video, Tekken 2 looks near dull when directly compared to VF2. its unbelievable because i use to prefer Tekken 2 even though I did like VF a little, but that was until I saw this video. If only this versus battlecast came out years ago.

As for my opinion: VF is just more interesting overall, mainly due to things like hit-confirm, the vast array of combo moves, and the general clean visual style and appeal of the series. VF2 is definitely a looker on both Model 2 and on the Saturn, and the amount of features it has—and the kind of features it has—makes it more attractive to me than any Tekken game at the time. All Tekken really ever had over VF, I think, was music.

Great vid, really impressed with this one. Have to say I love both equally though forced at gunpoint to choose one I'd have to go with Virtua Fighter.

These two games also have two of the best soundtracks of all time.

I'd suggest slowing down your speech quite a bit, as you tend to roll through whole sections with the pace of the Micro Machines Man and slur sections of speech together in a difficult manner. Aside from that, very impressive work!

I believe virtua fighter 2 is the better deeper game and this video "really" shows that but tekken 2 is easier to play and everyone was playing it on their playstation. If anyone saw this video when VF2 was released then people's heads would have exploded in awe.

I vote the Tekken series, but both are great! I give props to both, plus I love how in VF2 you can beat the crap out of your initals.
