  • Ripoff of Burning My Soul.

  • How to take picture for your album artwork:

Step 1 - Stand in a mysterious and vacant area of nature.

Step 2 - Look in a random direction so it seems like you're too cool to notice that you're on the cover of an album.

    It's true!

  • wow!! just... I have a new favourite band!

  • OMG...I got them now. It took me time to understand the lyrics but now..its indescribable!! So great!!

  • This song was one of the songs that cemented me as a Porcupine Tree/SW fan, forever...beyond beautiful...beyond anything else they had done previously...

  • @PatFromHell lol i was listening to pink floyd before i came here :P

  • anuff said

  • escuchar esta canción es como abrir una puerta por donde entra la luz del sol, mi oscuridad se ilumina de nuevo!!!

    Porcupine Tree en Chile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The new Pink Floyd. Yes indeed.

  • @PatFromHell They're themselves Porcupine Tree not the next anything else.

  • taken it*

  • @muraliavarma I think you have it backwards. I think this song is from the perspective of someone who actually had the chance to sell out but didnt and then regretted it. He says "I should have sold out when the devil came for me" which implies that he didn't actually sell out but turned it down. If you read the lyrics it seems to imply that hes waging his war with himself because of regret and waves at the dots on the shore that represents his possible fame if he had taken

  • Class..!!

  • "woke up and I had a big idea

To buy a new soul at the start of every year

I paid up and it cost me pretty dear

Here's a hymn to those that disappear"

It sounds like a reference to human trafficking. he metions "soul" in this song and color flow in mind. might be a reference to strip the soul?

I hope I'm perceiving Porcupine tree's lyrics incorrectly.

    Brilliant music.

  • @ajkfrty7 I seriously doubt it's a reference, they say 'Soul' in tons of their stuff. In Absentia is about serial killers, but this song is more about regret, etc.

  • Easily the best song I've heard in years - he captures the dark emotion of Pink Floyd and adds greater musicianship.

  • Can't get the CD with this song, bummer!

  • I think I'm possessed by this song. I keep coming back to listen to it o_O

  • I saving money to buy my brand new high end stereo equipament to listen songs like this one....awesome!!!

  • @thealieninme I'm glad you like it :-)

  • @thealieninme me too. and also buying genuine cd/vinyls for better sound :)

thats how real music should be listened.

You know what Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) said once? "Our music should only be listened on a stereo heavy enough only 2 men can lift it up"

    something like that

  • great song to listen before sleep...

  • My favorite song... ever!

  • how much new soul cost?

  • @TheOsirix12 Pretty dear :D

  • the live version is much more sensual i find...

  • @alfalex38 Right... and Wesley's solo is such beautiful

  • It reminds me, Im fuckin mess

  • not only yours...Very Strong song

  • these guys make the soundtrack of my life

  • @MrsCellardoor not only yours...Very Strong song

  • Put this on as you go to sleep, you will be dreaming in no time. When the music ends you will suddenly wake up and realise you were never asleep, hit restart!

  • Kind of surreal.A mix between trance and ballad. With that trancy organ intro, very beautiful, to sad lyrics sung very very sadly, the song is a classic irony when it talks about being optimistic(buying new soul) in THAT dejected fashion.A tribute to the hopeless and 'those who disappeared'

  • this is the most beautiful song ever.

  • Some people have already talked about it here, but I want this to be upvoted so more people can see this. The song is probably about how an artist gets a writer's block and sells out to the devil (money) and "be happy". But he doesn't. He still wages and rages his little war. He is a shade and easy to ignore. That is why this is on the obscure Recordings album. If this song becomes famous, it would defeat the purpose of the entire piece. How sincere must they be to create something like this...

  • Whitch album please??

  • @gegege38 Recordings from 2001

  • Had to privilege to see them in October 2009, House of Blues Boston MA. Quite possibly the greatest show I had ever witnessed. They played this Song and Russia on Ice and I was in a complete and humble trance.

    Porcupine Tree Forever.

  • here's a hymn to those who disappear.

  • love the intro organ riff

  • I'm just listening to this for the first time, i'm continually getting chills..

  • The only thing wrong here is the photo, because it is not Gavin Harrison playing the drums in this song. I heard Gavins version of the song live and I must say... it fails compared to this original version. And I am a big admirer of his playing. The drum track makes a big point in this fantastic song. Being a drummer myself this drum track gives me shivers up and down my spine.

  • Sitting alone in my apartment, headphones blocking out random noise, lights dimmed and Ive just got my Porcupine tunes taking my mind places. Been a good night! Love this song, but I love the live version from In Absentia better.

  • thumbs up if you think PT should do the soundtrack to the next Metroid game.

  • I only just started to explore this band, a few weeks ago (although, i was aware of their existence), and with each 'new' track i find, i can't help but think that this is possibly the greatest band in the world, ever... \m/ (:o)

  • @klistarf same was here.. after several songs I realised they are the best... can't listen to ordinary rock songs now.

  • man u dont know how much i get high whenever i hear this song i think it is better than anyother drug

if u wanna be high jus smoke shesha and listen to them

  • no dislikes proves the epicness of this song!

  • @peacelovehominy And less than 24000 views (most of which by the same guys, I guess) show that there's something wrong with this world...

  • @peacelovehominy 2 dislikes...... probably whining kids who don't understand or appreciate true music and listen to the shit spewed out of the rectal-eternal radio

  • @ANDREWHALL28 Katatonia has a pretty unique atmosphere as well in some of their albums.

  • @PSNBloodraid amazing band I have to admit, sen them twice now, sadly only at festivals,so will have to make sure I get to see a headline tour :-)

  • @ANDREWHALL28 Nice :)

I love how their sound changes every album, but is able to maintain the same atmosphere.

  • @ANDREWHALL28 You will!!! Check us out!! We are inspired by all the bands you just mentioned!

  • perfect!

  • I love all of PT's work, but man this song just sends me places. This is an incredible tune! Thnx for sharing.

  • awesome song :) wilson is simply the best songwriters i know

  • This is on my short list of favorite PT songs.

  • @rellax12 No, he isn't. This drummer is Chris Maitland. Harrison joined PT since the album In Absentia, I believe.

  • better then floyd's "wish you were here" and not as half as famous!

  • favourite band ever.

one of my favourite of their songs. :)

  • I'm not sure Harrison is the drummer in this song

  • I was just introduced to PT this past fall. This is by far THE best.I've heard yet.

    Eddie Jr.

  • god dammit! im dying of shivers over here... oh oops i meant Steven Wilson dammit! im dying of shivers

  • This has to be one of the best PT songs I've heard

  • It's not a sush a famous song but it's one of the better songs of PT!!!

  • Wow, I had never heard this before today. Amazing song.

  • How can a song be so musically beautiful and profound at the same time?

    Masterpiece..

  • they are so awesome! i never get bored of listening to this song.. all day.. over and over again..

  • This is a very special song. It takes me to a different realm where I can think of a beautiful girl named Zoe. What an amazing masterpiece!

  • Like it? I FUC*ING love this masterpiece...

  • This is definitely the most beautiful song they've ever released, if not the best song. I can listen to this over an over again and it still sends chills down my spine.

  • Great video

  • Ok, I'm dying now.. *O*

This is one of my favorite PL'song. Just love the emotional landscape (can I say that) built all around the whole song.. They're pure genius ! I think PL is one of the best alive bands ! it's damn well tuned with the actual world'spirit Emotion'sickness..

  • This song is super beautiful! why it wasn't released on the album I've no idea :)

  • this is one of the few bands i don't mind getting stuck in my head. in fact, there's always a space reserved for them ;).

  • @NathanielLouis Took 3 Weeks, but it's uploaded now! Check out my channel or listen to it under: youtube.com/watch?v=U3N3uEmVA3s&hd=1

  • @KristofferNipen Yeah...

  • @KristofferNipen No, then we'd have to be bombarded with the idiotic commercials of todays society.

  • Why is it that all their best stuff. is unreleased or hard to find. i mean this song is fucking awsome

  • @TheRythmestick Yeah, the B-Sides qualify as SUPER awesome...

  • @TheRythmestick What if the song is actually about the talented artists who don't go mainstream and thus so many good songs remain obscure? Maybe this song was made to prove the point that such a good song is not to be heard by everyone.

  • Grear song great band. You have any other steven wilson stuff? No man? I have is solo and blackfield. Also awesome

  • @NathanielLouis I have some No man and Blackfield up on my page.
