@nichoharri Well, it was so big and so unbelievable I was just in awe of it. Whether it's a pure Rainbow or a cross of some kind...possible. It was the biggest wild Rainbow I've ever landed (if it was a Rainbow). Putah Creek has not been reachable by Salmon and Steelhead for decades. But maybe there's some of both in this fish's genes.
@jakeplayer23 Guessing about 16 to 18 pounds. Was about 32 inches long and over 20 inches in girth. Clean, natural fish. Tough fight, that's for sure! About 40 minutes. Tried to shorten fight but wasn't going to happen.
i went fishing yesterday and caught at 26 in brown in a normal stream in new york and its my first year an i was going nuts u must have been freaking out!
@650sickboy Thx for the props. Yah, couldn't kill my biggest fish ever. Frankly, I don't like killing any fish these days. Unless I'm in the High Sierra catching TONS of Golden Trout. Up there I need a little protein. ;)
VERY glad to hear that. Did DFG pass a new reg? I've been hoping for catch and release only (fly only) for a long time now on Putah. Too much pressure.
Yah, there's a tension between getting a good picture and video and keeping the fish out of hte water too long. The fish was fine. I know he was...ironically, my friend caught the same exact fish about an hour later, a ways upstream, and it gave him a heck of a fight! Strange catching the same fish on the same day...especially that one!
Nice fish there but that is really unusual to catch the very same fish an hour later. I've been fishing up here in my home in Montana and has yet to have that happen to me or my friend. Wow.
My brother and I caught the same exact fish on the San Juan River within an hour of one another. And, my friend Jared caught the same fish three times over three days on the San Juan a few years ago. Goes to show that catch and release is pretty safe for the fish if done right.
Thumb up all the way!! How's the Putah Creek hanging there in your opinion? I read just a little about it after seeing your video. I'm a supporter of TU Snowy Mountain Chapter here in Central Montana.
Isn't The Rainbow Fish a legendary sea creature?

Putah creek is now a artificial only catch and release creek! that should thin out crowds

do you prefer putah creek or squaw valley creek more?
dsfishnclimb4 2 years ago
Big fish? Putah. But very crowded. Smaller fish? Squaw. But you're all alone. Like them both for different reasons.
