  • Thank u!!!

  • Wow I really liked it. I love simple energetic tunes like this. I will give it a shot and post a video of a final product.

  • très bon cours même si c est en anglais...

  • U D - D - D U D

  • can somebody write me the rhytm pattern for the verses and the chorus.

i watched the video and im not really sure. tanks to whoever helps :)

  • Actually, maybe it's u d d, d u d

  • I'm thinking it's:

    u d u d, d u d

For each chord. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Where are the tabs?

  • bloody excellent thankyou for posting this

  • I wonder if you can play a D instead of a Dm ,or do you really have to play the Dm

  • @andreah53 well i don't know really but the song seems to be in a minor or if you want c major , so the chrods it's supposed to be d minor not major

  • This is a great lesson Justin! I wish you would go into the strumming pattern. Several other videos talk about the strumming pattern in detail, yet they don't quite get it right. Your pattern is right that much is obvious, but what is the pattern?

  • @TheMtkimmel Up down, down down up

  • It sounds good when Justin plays it, but it doesn't when I play it. You have to change chords on the 'and' after '4'.. Does that mean I have to change chords when going 'up'? Because it doesn't sound good

  • @RonnyNasty Yes actually the change of chords does come on the up stroke.Make sure you change on the and of 4 and not the and of 3. For example count D [1] D[2]D[3] U [and] this up is the and of 3 then count 4 which is a down stroke Then go up quickly.

  • Thanks for making it so easy to learn a song with your detailed breakdown. I'm sure you're helping more budding guitarists than you know.

  • iv been playin now for two years and yoiu'v tought me all i know, awsome teacher! Legend

  • Justin, you have no idea how much you have helped me grow as a musician. I'm truly thankful for all of your videos, your fantastic website!

  • There are a lot of lessons on line for this song but I think yours is the best. Most of the others don't have the rythm correct

  • awesome video... thanks a lot man!!!!

  • Mr Joneeeeessss and me

  • awesome video man thanks a lot!

  • Thanks Justin, it's a great tune to play.....well done.

  • the strumming pattern would be DOWN DOWN DOWN UP *PUSH* .. well thats just how I play it XD

  • ma quanto sei bello!

  • great job as always

  • When will yu reupload the Pdf or whatever versions so i can look at that?

  • How does the strumming go???

    Need some help :)

  • JustinGuitar has been really helpful. This song inspired me to buy myself a guitar and now I'm learning it after only a month of playing!

  • any tips on getting that F nice and clean? i feel like im getting carpal tunnel practicing it..

  • Comment removed

  • I think is UD DD UDU.

  • good ear

  • does anyone know what the stum pattern is?

  • great lesson but very 3D if you know what i mean, lad!

  • no, we dont

  • in the old 3d movies they used to deliberately move in to the camera to give you the feeling of things coming at you through your 3d "glasses" in the theatre. justin seems to be doing this in this lesson, lol!

  • do you mean like 2:20 lol

  • Isnt it Counting Crows?

  • Thank you sooo much!

keep teaching me new songs like that ! :D

  • well put

    great job explaining it

  • Thanks Justin. Got the cords but I can never put them together. Great song for a begginer like me to try and get things flowing.

  • love this song, gonna try it out!

  • push it baby. thanks for showin me the chords

  • thnxxx you

love you re lessons it's simply great

  • mister... F... and G.... haha

great vid though, this was one of the first songs i learned on guitar.

  • I'm a begginer and i dont know anything about notes, and to be honest with you i cant see where the fingers go in every note except for the first one,so if anybody can help me out with the rest of the chords i would really appreciate it.Great video BTW Thanks!!!

  • oooh.

you need to stop guitar playing RIGHT NOW. your development is gonna be seriously screwed up. you need to learn some music theory first. you can prolly couple your guitar playing with music theory, but without a basic grasp of chords, intervals, measures, rhythm, etc, your guitar playing will be seriously hurt.

  • Like I said,i'm a begginer and sadly my work schedule doesn't let me go and take guitar classes,so if you know about good online classes that would help.

  • Have a look on Justin website.

It will help you a lot with everything for the start.

    Basic chords etc.

  • I'll give it a try man,thanks alot!!

  • Comment removed

  • Don't stop playing, you can get the chords online, just google it. You might want to get a chord book. But don't stop playing. Never stop playing.

  • Hey thanks for the advice, that was nice of you.I'm still in the process of learning some chords and stuff you know.but working on it whenever there's a chance.

  • You know, the hardest moment will be 8-10th month of learning, because you`ll already know some things but you will not know how to get through. I was at this moment and friends encouraged me, and i continue playing the guitar :) so PATIENCE, PERSISTENCE & PATIENCE

  • You're totally right man,I'm in like the second month or so,and seriously sometimes gets really frustrating, but hey! no one said that one can learn overnight right?

  • True, no instant effects, but persistence pays off :) it`s great workout for fingers, wrists and forearms :)

  • oh man!! amazing tutorial!! Thanks!!

  • We all want something beautiful.

  • Thank you! I love this song!! Great tutorial!!

  • dude! thank you so much i am a 7th month guitarist and ive been trying to figure out this song and acouple other for a really long time and since im a visual aid type of guy this video helped a TON!!! (also thanks for the scientist and hey ya)

  • Thanks a lot for sharing your tips.

I really liked how you explained the pushed rhythm, which I was looking for in this song.

    Sick one, you're awesome

  • hey man, del carajo..

I'm a spanish speaker and I learning english, but I understand everything yo say on the video.

thank's a lot, this maybe, my favorite song, and I am learning how to play the guitar.

Thanks again, you are a good teacher.

    from: Colombia

  • you have enriched my life.

    thank you.

this is the third one i have seen tonight, and they are all awesome. thank you, and good job.

  • u should be getting payed for this dude

    wicked vids

  • Haha, Of course, you must be joking. Had me there for a minute...

  • Sweet... Thanks!

  • Chords used:

    Am: x02210

    F: 133211

    (or Fmaj7: xx3211)

    (or "Cheaty F": xx321x)

    Dm: xx0231

    G: 320003

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW DONT TELLME

  • What's that G chord he's doing? It's not the 320003 I play...

  • It is 320003, he's just using his pinky to hit the high E, his pointer is hanging lose, but it looks like it's on that high G...it's not.

  • can u do road trippin? please?(red hot chilli peppers

  • I'll second that justin is mostly responsible for me learning guitar in the first place

  • There are so many good players better than Justin, but he gave us inspirations to be able to play the guitar right, he spends time and effort without asking for money in return. Everything here is for free and i felt so endebted. Just wanna say, Thank You Justin Sanders

  • I CANT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

  • Your awesome I would like to request Over the Hills and Far Away by led zeppelin

  • ooh nice suggestion

  • you rock dude, this is awesome.

  • Thx dude. For real. I appreciate someone who takes the time to teach and respect someone who does it all without asking for money.

  • just go to his website and all your question will be answered i hope.

  • Thanks a lot justin, have a nice day!!!

  • merci beaucoup c'est fantastique ce que tu fais, comme d'habitude d'ailleurs

  • Wow this is very helpful. Thanks a lot man!

  • Thanks Justin, as always you rock the cashbar.

  • thQ

  • Hey Justin,

How many times do you go through the verse before going to the chorus and back to verse? When do you play the bridge part?

  • whats the finger placement for the "substitute" F chord if you are not able to play the full bar F chord???

  • you bar the first two strings with your pointer finger on the first fret. you have your middle finger on the 3rd string 2nd fret and your ring finger on the 4th string 3rd fret.

  • thank you so much

  • dude, I wish I had your accent!

  • youre amaazzinngg!! :D

    thanks so much!

  • awsome my man

  • YES Ray LaMontagne!!!

  • Christ I'm glad this lesson isn't with those 3D glasses - when he leaps forward during the "pushed" strumming I thought he was coming thru the screen! LOL

  • i agree with the 20 year old can you do some ray lamontgne

  • I think the strumming pattern is something like:

    UD DD UDU

    for the verse.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • dicicco2

I've seen other people who are using a strumming pattern of....

DDD, U, DC,(change chords after the down chuck) U

I like this strumming pattern but I don't think you can go wrong with the UD DD UDU either.

    DC=CHUCK/MUTE

  • so is he going UD DD UDU or DDD,U,DC because i cant really tell

  • I love it, thx really helped me, but can someone please tell me what's the strumming patern of this song??

  • Justin it can't be said enough times. YOU ROCK!!!!

  • Hey! My names Heather and I'm 20. Just wanted to let you know that you are my favorite person on youtube and I want you to do so many more songs!!! Like Ray Lamontagne-hold in you my arms? eh eh??? :)

  • Thx dude, this really helped me.

    Keep on doing this ;)

  • You're a really great guitar player and teacher. Plus, dig the accent! Thanks for posting!

  • No play it how you want. Most start out and play it with their first three figures, but you can replace the third finger on the G note with your pinky finger just to make it easier to change to some chords. It's down to how you want to play it.

  • man u look great play great sound great a decent voice too keep posting by the way i love it, yer a bit of a james blunt lookalike, nice one mate,,

  • I notice you play your G chord with your 2nd, 3rd and 4th finger (I probably sound like an idiot) but I was taught with my 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Would this ever present any problems?

  • ther is no 'right' finger for any position.

play it in a way that's good for you.

most people use to add to the G chord the 3rd position on the second string.

it'll sound ok while you play the notes that makes the Gmajor chord (G, B, D).

    sorry my english.!!

    hope u understand.

  • no it wont...im pretty sure he is doing this in the video for a faster switch in chords...i could be wrong though...

  • wow you´re great =)

    thanks :)

  • Fa*** BRILLIANT

  • is that standard tuning

  • True enough but it's called 'interpretation' for a reason. In the privacy of his own home he likes C instead of F, live and let live.

  • Justin, AJ from the land of Oz here! Great work - love the way you work. Keep going mate need more songs to work on. Again great work and thanks for the effort.

  • thanks you helped me a lot with your lessons

  • Great post. Thanks a lot.

  • What's the other alternative to F, not the fm7, the other one?

  • thanx a ton!!!

  • Justin, thanks for the help. I notice you use the F barre chord, which I agree sounds better and more "full" but is a more difficult change for a beginner barre chord learner like myself. Any tips? Anyway, I was watching the Counting Crowes concert on HDNet the other day and they showed a close up the guitarist playing this song. I noticed that he used the "non-barre" chord F throughout the song. Strange.

  • Justin gives you two other versions in the video.

  • I just had a play around with that G chord and it does actuially sound better with the B played open. Incidentally, I just checked out sopme other guys lesson for this, not as good as yours, and he played the 'G' a different way again so I'm happy to stick with mine. I'm guessing your index wasn't doing anything.

  • Hi great vid mate you present your lessons clearly, concisely and accurately. 1 question though, when you do the G chord I notie you finger it differently to me, are you actually using you index with that chord? I always index the E string, middle the A and ring and pinky the B and E it's a habit I'll find hard to break now I just tried fingering it your way and lost all finger control hahaha like they weren't connected to my brain. Thanks Justin :O)

  • Your playing a slightly modified G. Fretting the B string at fret 3 is used a lot by bands like Oasis but G should really have the B string played open. It looks like Justin fingers his G in that manner for ease of chord changes and his index isnt fretting anything.

  • THANKS MATE, I DID KINDA FIGURE THAT OUT :o)

  • <brilliant, you are a great teacher !!

  • this is great, thanx so much

  • That was a response to 'bearing44's comment, by the way.

    Awesome lessons as always, Justin.

  • I first heard this song in Bauhaus bar in Koh Samui, Thailand in 1993.Sounded so complicated then. You made it so easy for me. Great work.

  • this was a great help thanks alot

  • lol preety much all ur lessons r 2 songs 2 wich every1 knows da lyrics 2 u ROK

  • as an old street busker and songwriter with no real musical education I REALLY appreciate your stuff sir, God bless you!

  • Hi Justin - thanks so much for the website and video lessons. I'm learning to play 'acoustic rock' and find your lessons invaluable. My all time favourite band are on a world tour, so if u get chance an acoustic version of a Police song would be much appreciated! Keep up the good work.

  • If you've been playing guitar that long, why are you bothering searching for guitar lessons on youtube just to criticise them?

  • hey justin i see how you use the fm7 and the F alternatively is that just for the demonstration or you like the sound

  • This pushes are so hard omg...

  • nice one mate....best lesson ive ever had and ive never even met you...well done !!

  • Awesome, thanks! helped out alot.

  • Wow. That push makes the song! I love your attention to detail! Awesome song! Awesome lesson! Thanks a million!

  • Amazing service you are doing to all the aspiring guitarists out there (including myself!) I can't thank you enough...

  • youtubes best guitar teacher!!

  • so nice.

  • Found you via a Slashdot article. Great lessons and well presented. Your comfort and ease with the subject matter as well as your knowledge makes it very worthwhile to watch and study your lessons. I love Counting Crows and seeing how to play the song at my level helps enormously. Thanks much.
