@kpowers99 I would recommend using the computer with the most cores (so the quad core) and upgrading the ram, then try to overclock the processors all to about the same speed also same ram, basically if you have 5 intel core 2 duo comps as nodes and 1 pentium 4 as a node the pentium will keep tripping over itself trying to catch up.
Do they all have to be the same type and speed? For example, if I have one phenom 2 quad core, one dual core, and two athalons all at different speeds will they still work? I'm very interested in doing this!

@ghostmarine1000 OH MY GOD!!!! please give me your email, i just started a computer club at my school and this is our goal by the end of the year. We were going to use ubuntu but windows would be easier, we have an infinite amount of emacs lol most of them have 1.25ghz processors, and the primaries or servers are ibm thinkcentres. so if we could set up a minecraft server and leave it running over the summer, or maybe charge like a buck a week and make some money for us. please please please help
OR...You could buy a mobo that supports the new 8core bulldozer architecture AMD Black edition CPU, 32gb R.A.M. Some hot-swap SSD's, and a four-way SLI loadout with latest cheap-o GeForce 500 Series knockoffs. It even looks better.
Hey man howd you connect the boards?? Im looking to create the mother of all gaming computers.... Im thinking some amd phenoms..... Overclock that shit..... Connect like 5 boards..... Play minecraft XD.... I know what im doing small scale but "multi-processor" computing is alien to me....
I have a dumb question. I was interested in clustering because of gaming, but I know the power of the cluster is limited to it's connections. What if I was an electrical engineer and could invent a device that connects nodes via the pci port instead of using switches and routers?
@dq476 Yip i can't see why there would be a problem , lol in this cluster i used a 10 gig ibm dita hdd very old ide and in the server a seagate 500gig sata hdd , just need to get the software right
did you film this with a potato?

P.S. STFU with Tesla this and that! They are NOT gaming cards, and most of you don't deserve them anyway...

is it safe to use old 20 - 40 gb hard drives like IBM and Western Digital in simple game servers like minecraft, CS:S, garrys mod, etc?? thanks!

@dq476 If you are running a steam type server with over 20 players you might wanna use a sata drive instead of an old ide one

You should do a tutorial on how to setup the hardware and software!
