When he saves the cover psd then what does he do? I got lost there. He went down on the bottom and pulled up a template or something then made another layer.

@shelly9782 Sorry shelly, that was a bit confusing. What happened there was I opened a file called cover.psd which I had already downloaded from the site mentioned at the start. The image I was working on then was copied and pasted on top of the cover.psd template. I'm not sure if the site with the templates is still available it's so long since I did any of this!
