Generally, to learn to create things, one must first learn how, and must start small. Even you must know this.

I can't fit the process for a really good looking sig, and a narration, and explanation in a 10 minute clip.

There should be a pull down above the image labeled Dialogs, on the window that you actually paint on, however if there isn't, it seems like in the newer versions everything you use in the tutorial is already on the layers window under different tabs.

It's C:/Windows/Fonts that's where fonts go. Then they'll show up for all your applications including GIMP.

And there should be a text option under filters. There's also a text tool, in the tool bar. It's a giant A.

If you just want it to be transparent, you need to right click your bottom layer (background)and click add alpha channel, then erase the background, if it's already made. If you're making a new one, there's an option when you create it to just have the background be transparency. In which case it will come up as a checkerboard grey and black thing rather than white, which means it's transparent there.

you know, im a more experienced gimp user and i can tell you that when you are done connecting the dots on your image with the paths tool just hit control x or in other words cut it out of the original picture. In this case cutting the master chief out of the picture. Then you paste it in the backround you created (which should be made by a brush or render by the way). Then use the scale tool to make it as small or as big as you want it. Just a small tip for the beginners.
