hey man glad to see a good old boss ds-1 on that pedalboard.....never get too many guitarists using this great pedals in their rig......i have one is my pedal board along with a ds-2 and honestly i think they are some of the very best distortions out there.... peace - luis
Not true at all. Lots of rigs sound amazing with pedals while using a solid state amp. A majority of ambient/indie do not use tube amps, and their effects driven music is still amazing in quality.
robert keeley replaces all the caps with higher quality ones, all the resistors with higher quality ones, and changes certain parts in the gain stages to make it smoother, creamier, heavier, ganier, etc.
it's a matter of preference not quality. you cannot say that a metal film cap is better than a ceramic one. each will give out different sound (crispier, crunchier, muddier, defined/undefined etc). the value of the cap is most important because it determines which frequencies are going to be cut. type=sound; value=range.
keeley installs metal film caps but to me polyester caps sound much much better.
sounds way better its a bit likt the squire Epi and fender Gib debate kinda neway ma point is keeley is the fender gib and the stock one is squire and epi in comparison see the keeley is slightyly better
hey ive been looking around the guitarcenter site and im going to buy the dean vendetta xm guitar for 100 dollars and i have 200 left to spend on pedals. i already have the crybaby wah pedal and deathmetal distortion. someone got any suggestions on what pedals to get that are affordable? thanks
YES! I actually dig the TS9 over the 808. I'll take one for the team and sound like a dork: Stevie actually used a ts9. Some marketing manager said 808 by mistake.
hey yea i went n check out the tubescreamer i tried the ts9dx..n it was good...really liked tht pedal compared to my bd-2 but i do still like my bd-2 lol....n also i tried the fender blues jr...really liked it....planin to get tht amp actually...would u recomend it?? im still usin a lousy mg series at the moment.....n do u know any good settings i can do with my bd-2 or any mods tht u would sugest...?? n no my dad dont play any instruments lol....nvm abt him..
"Tak ada masallah" as they'd say around these parts. Thanks for the great pedals. I was running my G&L ASAT through that little lot into an '81 Twin Reverb last week at a gig. Awesome.
oh ok cool....well i live in malacca....borin state.....not much music shop arnd lol....but i always go up to kl......mainly just to go to bentley music shop...im guessin u know tht shop...lol....well i own a american strat...a hw1.....n well im into mayer, clapton , hendrix n etc etc...i hve a bd2 pedal now,wat else would u recomend me getin to get tht kinda mayer tone ?? n yea although im a malaysian...my bahasa malaysia is preety weak too...im a malaccan protugese btw..
Hey. I play with a friend's band in Malacca from time to time. He runs My Rock N Roll Cafe in Melaka Raya. He's organising a Blues & Rock Festival down there in July that's going to run on the Jonker Walk stage.
As to the John Meyer tone, well I'd say start with a Tubescreamer of some description. The Digitech Bad Monkey has a very good rep and is cheaper than the Ibanez (Even at Bentley).
oh hey i know tht shop....hey i think my dad knows u haha....im 17 btw....duno if u knw him wel...u know any sta maria's?? lol..oh thers a festival comin up oh cool....im sure to check tht out..hmm a tube screamer huh....damn i already got the bd-2 nvm might get tht 1 too...well how abt others like the digital reverb or the tremelo n the phase shifter? watcha think of tht..
Nope. Chronic veinous insufficiancy. My blood clots very quickly, and as a result of having a desk job for twenty-odd years my lower leg veins are clogged. I developed "old lady" ankles in my mid 30's ;)
The Legacy Special has Gotoh pickups made to G&L's specifications. They are humbuckers and the neck pickup is a different more powerful model than the other two.
dude ur so lucky u have a PRS custom 22. I have a PRS SE Custom aka Student Edition Custom guitar. I was thinking of getting an epiphone les paul studio. Is this a good choice omikl?
Well, I'd say that your PRS SE Custom is probably a better guitar than the Epiphone Les Paul. I'm a bit conflicted on Epiphones. Their semi-hollow models, like the Casino, Dot, Wildkay, Alleykat, et al are great. However I find that the Les Pauls are lacking something. I'd recommend that you have a look on EBay and see if you can score an Epiphone Japan Les Paul. They're easy to tell from the Korean/Chinese ones as they have Gibson style headstocks.
The SE Custom is around 500 - 600 dollars, right? If that's your budget, you might be able to score a used Gibson off of Ebay. Just be careful. Some of those cheaper Gibsons are so damaged they should just be trashed.
I prefer the compression & limiting effect that you get when a distortion pedal pushes an overdrive. So for example on one of my other boards I run a RAT into a Drivetrain II. You can get some really cool "tis amp is on the verge of disintegration" tones out of that sort of combination.
Nice. I've got a '96 in Honeyburst. In the process of procuring another G&L right now but still haven't quite decided which one. ASAT Deluxe at the top of the list but I keep waffling.
If you dig the Legacy Special then I can't recommend an S-500 highly enough. I have four s-style G&L's and they all sound very different: Legacy, Legacy Special, S-500 & Fulerton.
gorgeous sounds you've got there! I almost want to get a modded DS-1 now haha...almost. I love those tubescreamers though, planning on picking up a modded one this weekend actually. For non bypassing effects in such a big loop, your clean sound is very nice. Great video =)

Nice pedals, Dont know why it all sounds so nasty! Probably your amp..
tutakar 3 years ago
I'll answer a few of the questions in one shot if I may:
Yes. The CS-3 is very noisy. If you have any sort of gain pedal running after it you get a lot of hiss.
A lot of the compression that you hear on the video is actually from the auto level control on the video camera's microphone.

Stock TS9 vs Stock Boss BD-2?
or if there are some outstanding mods for either pedal, what are they?
1DAngus1 3 years ago
IMO the stock TS-9 is better than the BD-2. The BD-2 has some high end fizz. IMO the TS-9 has a smoother sound compared to the Boss's rougher sound.

The guitar used in this clip is a completely stock 2002 PRS Custom 22 with a trem bridge.
The signal chain is:
PRS Cu22 -> Fender Sparkle Tuner -> Boss CS-3 -> Keeley DS-1 Ultra -> Keeley TS-9 Mod + -> Keeley TS-9 Baked Mod -> Boss CH-1 -> Dan Echo -> '74 Fender Princeton Reverb with a Weber Signature Ceramic 10 speaker.
The heavy compression you can hear is the automatic volume control on the Canon Powershot A80 I was using to record it.
