  • there are other brands besides keeley out there,,check them out

  • too much crunch for me, i likes it smooooth :)

  • Hey I'm just wondering what mean when you say "stock" before the pedal? Thanks a lot. Great demo

  • @TheFitzaFrenicRock with no mod. form the shop ;] i think it means this

  • @TheFitzaFrenicRock It means no modifications. Factory made right out of the box.

  • good looking pedal board. I have the same case. it is very neat and clean of use.

  • @sxfvocalist.....most ambient/indie music sucks....hence the use of crappy solid state amps...NOTHING beats a good tube amp!!!!!

  • its a boss ds 1 ultra mod by robert keeley if u like the norm ds check out this pedal

  • hey man glad to see a good old boss ds-1 on that pedalboard.....never get too many guitarists using this great pedals in their rig......i have one is my pedal board along with a ds-2 and honestly i think they are some of the very best distortions out there.... peace - luis

  • no, nobody uses them because they sound bad

  • Not true at all. Lots of rigs sound amazing with pedals while using a solid state amp. A majority of ambient/indie do not use tube amps, and their effects driven music is still amazing in quality.

  • whats the difference with keeley mods and with regular pedals?

  • robert keeley replaces all the caps with higher quality ones, all the resistors with higher quality ones, and changes certain parts in the gain stages to make it smoother, creamier, heavier, ganier, etc.

  • id love to get one of the modded blues drivers...

  • it's a matter of preference not quality. you cannot say that a metal film cap is better than a ceramic one. each will give out different sound (crispier, crunchier, muddier, defined/undefined etc). the value of the cap is most important because it determines which frequencies are going to be cut. type=sound; value=range.

keeley installs metal film caps but to me polyester caps sound much much better.

there are no high/low quality resistors either.

  • sounds way better its a bit likt the squire Epi and fender Gib debate kinda neway ma point is keeley is the fender gib and the stock one is squire and epi in comparison see the keeley is slightyly better

  • Sounds like the gecko from the geico commercials

  • not every aussie sounds like the geico gecko

  • Why would you suggest a tube amp if you think he likes Dimebag's tone? Have you ever heard a Pantera record in your life?

  • Wow... nice rig man.

  • hey ive been looking around the guitarcenter site and im going to buy the dean vendetta xm guitar for 100 dollars and i have 200 left to spend on pedals. i already have the crybaby wah pedal and deathmetal distortion. someone got any suggestions on what pedals to get that are affordable? thanks

  • I love my MXR Wylde Overdrive. That's $100.

  • i got the same board but its gettin to small nice pedals too

  • Nice pedals, Dont know why it all sounds so nasty! Probably your amp..

  • I'll answer a few of the questions in one shot if I may:

Yes. The CS-3 is very noisy. If you have any sort of gain pedal running after it you get a lot of hiss.

A lot of the compression that you hear on the video is actually from the auto level control on the video camera's microphone.

  • Whats the difference between the TS-808 and the TS 9?

  • the ts-808 has a warmer sound, with less gain

  • mojo

  • YES! I actually dig the TS9 over the 808. I'll take one for the team and sound like a dork: Stevie actually used a ts9. Some marketing manager said 808 by mistake.

  • what settings are you using on the cs3? i can never get it to do anything really that great.

  • do u mix the cs3 compressor witn the ds 1 distorsion ,,,cause my ,make a lot of hprrible noise when a do that????'????

  • you need to use a noise supressor.

  • Stock TS9 vs Stock Boss BD-2?

or if there are some outstanding mods for either pedal, what are they?

  • IMO the stock TS-9 is better than the BD-2. The BD-2 has some high end fizz. IMO the TS-9 has a smoother sound compared to the Boss's rougher sound.

  • hey i have to ask u.....wher do u find keeley modded pedals in malaysia??

  • Via an Internet connection & PayPal :)

  • if i were you i'll consider solarium as a real option.

  • nice tone

  • nice foot lol

  • youve got some nice guitars. prs and g&l. ive always wanted a prs custom and the g&l bluesboy or comanche

  • hey yea i went n check out the tubescreamer i tried the ts9dx..n it was good...really liked tht pedal compared to my bd-2 but i do still like my bd-2 lol....n also i tried the fender blues jr...really liked it....planin to get tht amp actually...would u recomend it?? im still usin a lousy mg series at the moment.....n do u know any good settings i can do with my bd-2 or any mods tht u would sugest...?? n no my dad dont play any instruments lol....nvm abt him..

  • Thanks for the demo and taking the time to do so!

    Robert

  • "Tak ada masallah" as they'd say around these parts. Thanks for the great pedals. I was running my G&L ASAT through that little lot into an '81 Twin Reverb last week at a gig. Awesome.

  • Many thanks! Heck, your guitar and fingers do the work...don't give me too much of any credit. Thanks so much again sir!

OH... Much JOY to you, and glad you are filled with joy...THANKS!

    rk

  • lol wat do u mean around these parts?? n tht phrase means no problem if some of u don know lol.....wher r u from dude??

  • Originally from the UK but I've lived in KL for 11 years. My command of Bahasa Malaysia sucks big time though.

  • oh ok cool....well i live in malacca....borin state.....not much music shop arnd lol....but i always go up to kl......mainly just to go to bentley music shop...im guessin u know tht shop...lol....well i own a american strat...a hw1.....n well im into mayer, clapton , hendrix n etc etc...i hve a bd2 pedal now,wat else would u recomend me getin to get tht kinda mayer tone ?? n yea although im a malaysian...my bahasa malaysia is preety weak too...im a malaccan protugese btw..

  • Hey. I play with a friend's band in Malacca from time to time. He runs My Rock N Roll Cafe in Melaka Raya. He's organising a Blues & Rock Festival down there in July that's going to run on the Jonker Walk stage.

As to the John Meyer tone, well I'd say start with a Tubescreamer of some description. The Digitech Bad Monkey has a very good rep and is cheaper than the Ibanez (Even at Bentley).

  • oh hey i know tht shop....hey i think my dad knows u haha....im 17 btw....duno if u knw him wel...u know any sta maria's?? lol..oh thers a festival comin up oh cool....im sure to check tht out..hmm a tube screamer huh....damn i already got the bd-2 nvm might get tht 1 too...well how abt others like the digital reverb or the tremelo n the phase shifter? watcha think of tht..

  • Can't really help with those. I get my reverb & tremolo from my amps, and the last phaser I owned was a one-knob no-name I bought in about 1975 :)

Does your Dad play drums occasionally?

  • Can't really help with those. I get my reverb & tremolo from my amps, and the last phaser I owned was a one-knob no-name I bought in about 1975 :)

Does your Dad play drums occasionally?

  • Damn it your good man... your playing sounds like a dream!!! Where did you get this HOT riffs? Made up or some Stevie Ray Vaughan ideas? :)

  • Just an old hack ma. It's basically Clapton, Gilmour & Moore distilled and filtered through a bit of the Vaughns ;)

  • maybe he has diabetes....if so, sorry omikl...

  • Nope. Chronic veinous insufficiancy. My blood clots very quickly, and as a result of having a desk job for twenty-odd years my lower leg veins are clogged. I developed "old lady" ankles in my mid 30's ;)

  • Doesn't sound too fun....

  • bare feet...thats why I don't buy used. bluagh.

  • lmao.....no shithhahahaha

  • .......no he was wearing womens tights (pantyhose) if you look closely!!! Very disturbing!!

  • Yeah...but i still see toes...its like the pantyhose end just before the toes. aahhhhh maann.. whyyyyyyyy????? hahah.

  • MANtyhose!

  • Put the compressor ¨post¨ to the delay. (sorry for my english)

  • that poor neglected strat in the corner...

  • I'll have you know that's a poor neglected G&L Legacy Special ;)

  • hey i got one too i love em

  • what kind of PUs you got in that G&L?

  • The Legacy Special has Gotoh pickups made to G&L's specifications. They are humbuckers and the neck pickup is a different more powerful model than the other two.

  • dude ur so lucky u have a PRS custom 22. I have a PRS SE Custom aka Student Edition Custom guitar. I was thinking of getting an epiphone les paul studio. Is this a good choice omikl?

  • Well, I'd say that your PRS SE Custom is probably a better guitar than the Epiphone Les Paul. I'm a bit conflicted on Epiphones. Their semi-hollow models, like the Casino, Dot, Wildkay, Alleykat, et al are great. However I find that the Les Pauls are lacking something. I'd recommend that you have a look on EBay and see if you can score an Epiphone Japan Les Paul. They're easy to tell from the Korean/Chinese ones as they have Gibson style headstocks.

  • thanks dude. ill have to try the epi les paul and prs to see the difference. thanks for helping me!

  • The SE Custom is around 500 - 600 dollars, right? If that's your budget, you might be able to score a used Gibson off of Ebay. Just be careful. Some of those cheaper Gibsons are so damaged they should just be trashed.

  • +1 on the Epiphone Japan LPs. I have one and it's every bit as good as my Gibson Custom Shop 1960 RI at a quarter of the price!!

  • Nice feet.

  • hahahaha it remind me when i was in a gig and i did'nt wear shoes lol kool man

  • I'm guessing you prefer the DS-1 before the Tube screamer in the chain? what's your take on that?

  • I prefer the compression & limiting effect that you get when a distortion pedal pushes an overdrive. So for example on one of my other boards I run a RAT into a Drivetrain II. You can get some really cool "tis amp is on the verge of disintegration" tones out of that sort of combination.

  • porq no usas zapatos?

  • Porque es muy caliente aquí :)

  • Is that a Legacy Special in the background? Looks like the dual fulcrum trem, but hard to tell.

  • Got it in one. That's my '98 Legacy Special.

  • Nice. I've got a '96 in Honeyburst. In the process of procuring another G&L right now but still haven't quite decided which one. ASAT Deluxe at the top of the list but I keep waffling.

  • If you dig the Legacy Special then I can't recommend an S-500 highly enough. I have four s-style G&L's and they all sound very different: Legacy, Legacy Special, S-500 & Fulerton.

  • Why are you not wearing shooes?

  • Because it's about 32C and my music cubby hole doesn't have air con ;)

Honestly. I must remember to put on a pair of jeans & some boot before I make the next one :D

  • gorgeous sounds you've got there! I almost want to get a modded DS-1 now haha...almost. I love those tubescreamers though, planning on picking up a modded one this weekend actually. For non bypassing effects in such a big loop, your clean sound is very nice. Great video =)

  • Thanks. I'm going to try to get around to making videos of my other pedal boards. Time & kids permitting! Stay tuned...

  • Is your Keeley TS9 Mod Plus True Bypass? I am thinking about snagging one and wanted someones opinion on any "tone sucking" without true bypass. Thanks!

  • No. Neither of those pedals is modded for true bypass. In fact nothing in that pedal board is true bypass. I have lots of true bypass, non true bypass, and direct bypass (as in the Marshall Echohead). I'm beginning to agree with Pete Cornish on this one. You'll have to find his web site I'm afraid as they will not allow URLs here.

  • I have the TS-9 Baked mod with the drive at 4 o'clock, tone at 1 o'clock and level adjusted to give me more or less unity volume with the clean guitar.

  • what are your settings like on the ts9 baked mod? I have one, and you make yours sounds tons better. I am running my through a strat( MIA, MIJ ) into a fender hrd. thanks

  • ok, gracias!...mi hamer es una archtop custom usa.

    tu2-wah jh1 modificado-thundertomate compresor-ts9-fulldrive 2 mosfet-mm4-dl4

  • "fjcurra" asks what pickups you got on your PRS, i just thought i'd translate cuz anyway id like to know too, and killer tones btw, nice setup!

  • The guitar used in this clip is a completely stock 2002 PRS Custom 22 with a trem bridge.

    The signal chain is:

    PRS Cu22 -> Fender Sparkle Tuner -> Boss CS-3 -> Keeley DS-1 Ultra -> Keeley TS-9 Mod + -> Keeley TS-9 Baked Mod -> Boss CH-1 -> Dan Echo -> '74 Fender Princeton Reverb with a Weber Signature Ceramic 10 speaker.

The heavy compression you can hear is the automatic volume control on the Canon Powershot A80 I was using to record it.

  • wow, very nice man, thanks for the reply! ;)

(oh one more question, any major difference between those 2 keely ts9 mods? i saw a keely TS9DX mod the other day at a local music shop but didn't try it, any improvement in particular over the originals? any comment would be helpful, thanks!

  • The TS-9 Mod + sounds better than the TS-9 RI & TS-808 RI that I used to have in my set-up. It sounsd like more of the guitar's character is getting through, there's less of a mid range hump & betterr bass resopnse. The TS-9 Baked mod has much more distortion & treble available than the Mod +. It's capable of going up into distortion & fuzz pedal territory.

  • Thanks a lot for the responses M8 very helpful, keep up the good work!!

  • great!.qué pastillas lleva tu prs guitar?. gracias.

  • Nice Tone (s) would like to know your chain, amp type (s)

thus chain, on / off and so on. Really liked some of the tones you are getting. I run a multitude of processors, pedals and so on, love to experiment so, if yu don't mind, when you have some time would love to hear your line up. Thanks man....nice job!

  • nice equipment, damn i want prs custom 22/24 ::D killa tone:)
