This woman's voice is absolutely amazing. She can sing anything! I love her softer tunes, too. I've seen her in musicals at the beginning of her career when she was living on Cape Cod and let me let you, she just as good at acting. She should be on Broadway. She also came out with a CD last year that's fabulous. I know she is a regular on the cabaret circuit in NYC. I saw her at the Duplex once.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Amazing range! When most people attempt to do those types of things with their voices, they sound terrible. She is amazing... I wonder what she sounds like 2 and a half years later? *goes off to hunt down more vids*
Starting from the first "bring me down," it was especially orgasmic. ;)
Her voice is really incredible. She should train a bit more to be able to sing more safely, but God, she can belt notes I never thought possible. There's a vid out there of her belting the high Bb in Think of Me! And she seems so funny and just like a genuinely fun person.
this girl seriously has one of the best voices i have ever heard in my life...her range is unbelievable!! she needs to be a broadway star...and will be!!!
because wicked is constant high belting, once upon a time is just singing then some random high note - whoever wrote it obviously thought it'd be the next wicked considering it sounds like defying gravitys ending
I don't understand why people are saying that. Would singing that high damage Pavarotti's vocal chords? (in a male key, of course) No, because of how his voice worked and his training.
^ no, not really. No single person, no matter how much training, could sing like this night after night. If you ask me, as amazing as this is, this is not what makes a good singer. Yes, this girl is incredible, but it upsets me that it takes THIS to impress people.
It is still rough on the voice though. And it's not so much that she can sing this high that bugs me.. it's that singning that high is what impresses people. It's so sad
OMG thank God I'm not the only one who thinks that. I mean, it's fantastic that she's got such a high range, and yeah it's impressive, but I think the quality of someone's voice should count for more. Also think about it: The last note. She's hitting it, which makes it impressive, but listen past that. Belting that note out would be really high pitched and a bit ''unattractive'' as some vocalists say. Not just her, but for anyone who could belt that, it just wouldn't be a pretty note to hear.
But singing high has always impressed people. Donizetti wrote nine high Cs in "Ah, Mes Amis" two hundred years ago because he knew that it's exciting to hear people sing at the top of their ranges over and over again. Pavarotti sang music as demanding as this night after night, and his voice never really deteriorated.
Still though, franklin. It's unfair to those that have great voices without singing this high, to be left behind. honestly, her tonal quality is kinda funky.
Unfair? Tell that to Donizetti. The original version of Defying Gravity was written in a lower key and was adjusted to Idina's voice. Perhaps if Kate Pazakis had been the original Elphaba, it would've always been in this key.
As for other people with great voices, singing at the edges of the human range has always been impressive - low bass to high belting to high soprano. I think her tone sounds fine, although her sound is a bit spread (it's only to be expected when belting this high, really.)
i think it has to do with being noticed for something out of the ordinary. people that get recognized do the extraordinary, not the norm. the only way to get recognition is to stand out.
that person obviously is incapable of realizing the difference of singing and screaming. and to have a range that big is something I believe is referred as talent.
she could be cast in a revival of bklyn.... but i highly doubt there will ever be a revival of that show.... but i could be wrong theyre reviving brigadoon...
she could be cast in a revival of bklyn.... but i highly doubt there will ever be a revival of that show.... but i could be wrong theyre reviving brigadoon...
wildfire....no reason to be mean. Are you just jealous that someone is out there doing it and you're not? I think a lot of people would give anything to sing like her.
are you kidding you have no idea what your talking about. this girl was sing three steps higher than idina menzel, idina screams the song this girl can belt. I suggest you know what your talking about before you post stupid comments.
I don't see why people think riffing, ad-libbing and going higher than the score is a bad thing. If you sing a song and you find it far too easy, bland or boring then you tend to spice it up a bit with your own style, and Wicked is perfect to do this with, it's not some Andrew Lloyd Webber or Sondheim operetta.
I think the secret is, is not to become to well known on the circuit sometimes as you sadly become labelled! You can have the most amazing voice, hense Kate here...but people dont open their furrowed brow!! Or open the box, or whatever the casting Dir live in at the mo. Kate Pazakis has an amazing talented...far better than some girls here in the UK that work in the Westend. Thanks for posting.
She does have a great belt. She is wonderful, and this is in response to the comment about her tone. I don't think it is possible to have a great tone when you are belting a high z#.
There are only two things I don't like with this performance... She sings "I'd sooner -try- defying gravity" instead of -buy-. And also, the syncopation of -defying- bothers me. But the ending is absolutely incredible!
I see what you mean, but I thought the intresting syncopation made it all her own. she's an artist....but everyone is entitled to an opinion! Thanks for watching and for your comment!

sorafdfs 3 years ago
actually, once upon a time is more constant in the upper range, and goes way higher than defying gravity sooner than defying gravity.
also, brooklyn was in workshops when Wicked opened, I doubt they rewrote the ending to be just like Wicked.
just my opinion, though.
