Im jumping in this conversation as a 2V owner... I did mine, 98 GT PI swap, with typhoon intake, elbow, tb, MAF, JBA headers, Bassani X, Mac Cat back, 3.73's, SCT tuner, blah blah blah.. It was quick and fun but unless your going full race, NA 2V's are a joke. Forced Induction is the only way to crank out HP on small cubes and remain street friendly. Thats just the truth.. ask any SN95 message board. They'll all point to a supercharger etc.
@TunedPortZ28 While I agree with you that forced 2V Modulars produce amazing numbers, a NA 2V Modular can and did produce 400+hp with 11:1-11.5:1 compression ratio, which you can run on 91 Octane if you tune it carefully, I've read 2 articles on (5.0 Mustang&super fords) in which they built two 2Vs, the first one was stroked but used a smaller cam, it put 375hp and 385lbs torque!! the 2nd did 399hp with 9.0:1 compression and stock 4.6L size! with 18psi(JT-Trim) it cranked out 800hp, 610lbs!!
Bharsen- you sir can't drive then lmfao. I have seen a real driver grab a 14 flat with a stock gt maybe cat back. They can easily hit a low 13 high 12 with the right bolt ons and a good tune. Shit my 3v puts down 300/320 on a 100* day! with a full exhaust, cai, 3.55, and a tune. And the headers and cai are generic parts for cheap! You can get 300rwhp out of a 2v with h/c/I, full exhaust, aluminum drive shaft, but it is almost a new engine excluding the block.
@Turbo05gt Turbo05gt is an expert on EVERYTHING. Better listen to him. Make sure to ask how having 4 extra cylinders affected his micro-penis. Oh wait, it didn't.
For everyone talking about horsepower on a 2V... 400WHP this, 400WHP that... you will be hard pressed to even see 300WHP N/A... FACT, these heads were designed poorly and as a result even porting them or otherwise putting aftermarket ones on will net net very amazing gains. a GOOD custom ground cam done properly by a dyno shop with full bolt on's will net these 2V's around 280WHP. full N/A bolt on's? I'd say 300WHP is a good baseline when done properly. which is not impressive, not in the least.
@bharsen I hate my 2V, Everything costs so much money and you hardly get anything out of them. The only way they can make power is with forced induction.
Yeah I hear ya there, trust me, I went through the same thing... I had an 04 with LT's/OR X/catback/75mm TB+Plenum/CAI/Dyno Tune/DR's/4.10's.. pretty much all your basic bolt on's that are supposed to add power save for UD pullies and I ran a BEST of 13.8@102MPH through my A4 tranny. Finally I gave up and went with an LS2 GTO, now I wish I would have waited for the DOHC 5.0L
Am I the only one who thinks these two valve stangs have a lot more potential than people give them credit for? Lot of haters out there taking down on them...
Oh and forgot to mention that intake, is for high RPM shifting and makes power till about 7k rpm. That would shell a stock bottom end. Go do some research Galaxie.
Porting a set of PI heads with good cams and a trackheat intake WILL NOT get you 400-450hp. There are plenty of 2 valve vids up of the trick flow top end kit on a dyno and the motor alone isn't pushing 400hp. I am not trying to be a d!ck here, but you need to do some research on combinations and HP numbers. Either that, or you forgot to add nitrous into play, which doesn't count anyways. Nitrous is fake HP. A built 03-04 cobra bottom end, trickflow top end kit, and 100 shot puts you where you
I get what you are saying, I just think you can make a lot of other cars faster with less mods. These cars are very difficult to get 400RWHP out of N/A. Not everyone wants to go charger or turbo.I have a 02 GT with Cold air, throttle body, mass air, built 4r70W 2800 stall, 3:73 gear, headers, no cats h pipe flows dumped..... I need to do what you just mentioned and see where I would be........ I don't know, I just wish i'd have saved for a couple more weeks and bought a cobra.
anyone know the damn name of the second song while hes at the track. i've had this in my favorites for about a year now, just trying to figure out the songs. took me about 6 months to find the first song, now all i need is the last song. any one... bueler.... bueler...
@ernestolopez23 Um, no these cars aren't a very good place to start. First off, the bore size is tiny. Secondly the head flow design from the factory blows donkey balls. Unless you're willing and able to hand over 3-4k for a top end kit........... The bottom end can't hold very well, so you'll need a built bottom end to make and MANTAIN sufficient power over a decent period of time. The transmissions these cars have (4R70W) are alright, but if you are making over 350RWHP, you'll need to build
@smallfry0764 a transmission for it. And last but not least, the rear-end. 8.8's hold great, but hooking over 400HP is going to be a tad difficult in these cars without some added re-enforcement. So if you haven't gotten the point, these cars are one of the worst mustangs ever built. The platform sucks, and doesn't leave a whole lot of room unless you have 10,000 to fork over.
@smallfry0764 its a good place to start in the sense that if this car is in your budget, you can get alot done under the hood and have a nice little dragstrip car that run decent times. bolt ons plus vortech supercharger on one of these gt's will put you up there with the dohc cobras. thats still cheaper than actually getting a cobra. and yes built bottom end is a must at this point
@smallfry0764 a N/A 4.6l 2v will touch 450 stroker and 5.4s will hit 500hp. a complete top end kit could cost a bout 3-4k but thats with trick flow part's. just port a set of PI head's bigger cam's and use a bullit or a trickflow trackheat intake and you will hit 400-450hp. the only handicap a modular ford has is tiny bore, true. but hopefully ford will rectify this issue with in the next few year's for the car engine's. atleast the new 6.2 has a bore size of 4.020
What rpm do you shift at? I just put the hitech cams in my car and it's still pulling like a raped ape when it hits the rev limiter, so just wondering what I should raise it to. Mine has stock heads, valve springs etc.
mine has 3.90's w/ moser 31-spline axles and posi (which I just broke) it still drives but it grinds. i still need to take it apart and see what I need to do. 3.90's are my limit I have a 4R70W
Nice Stang!! I just picked up those cams and a dss proMod long block. I only have about 50 mile on it so far but I have quite a bit of valvetrain noise. I heard of a few people having ptv with these cams even though Hitech swears u won't. Have you had any issues?
nice i have full suspension and bolt ons and these cams and went 12.28 at 107 with drag radials and wieght is 3200 with me and on 150 shot went 11.45 at 117 so there is hope for the new edge
wow. I haven't been to the 1/4mile yet but my 258rwhp GT runs an 8.71@80mph in the 1/8. I'd like to see what I could do with slicks. :) Your car gives me hope and makes me not want to buy that C5 I've been looking at. ;)
definatley. Plus that GT has like 300hp at the wheels, if he did the P-51 and trickflow heads, hed see around 360rwhp. which would be like 420 at the crank. Those are Cobra numbers
When You did your weight reduction, what did you remove? I heard that you removed the door panels, did you have to go to a shop to have it severed out. What race buckets are you riding in? did you swap the factory carpeting for light weight carpeting? Are any of the body panels polyurethane? Lastly, did you remove the stock dash board and steering wheel with custom lightweight replicas?
Nice run's i have the same set up as you except i am going to run a 150 wet shot on my car and i was wondering who didi your tune and for how much thanks.
20mpg pretty sweet, but i drive alot of highway miles. im the only one doing the good stuff in the vids. I have vids of him driving his 03 GT, but all he does is a traction controlled launch and a little rev. He cant drift or anything like that.

Suspension makes all the difference. If you cant transfer the weight to the rear on the launch then all your going to do is spin. Getting your 60 foot down is what you need and drop weight off the car

good work dude, did you put the cams in yourself? ive been looking into hitech stange 2's for a lil while now just wondering how hard they are to install.
that makes all the difference. Car is keepin hope up for the 2 valves! I run his 1/8th mile et when I shoot, but im fat, full weight, and 165 lbs of stereo bs in the trunk
