I remember the storm quite well. I was with my mom that night, in the Prince Edward Estates apartments on the Bedford Hwy. I woke up in the morning and thought I was late for school, then my mom said to look out the window. That was something else. Our friends on the top floor said the roof was about to come loose, their ceiling had broke in some areas. After that, we went to my dads, he was by Basin View, and his area was pretty bad, we lost about 6 trees, and our neighbour lost 12.
My 1st born was a 7 month old baby when this hit and I remember the wind driving the rain into my windows. I checked on that little girl every 2 mins, so scared something would happen to my princess. Thankfully nothing happened, but that doesn't mean my heart didn't break for the people who had damaged homes and the people who died.
I remember all this like it was yesterday. I was only 7 then, but still. And I don't even live in the city, I live atleast 40 minutes away from Downtown Halifax. Everyday on my bus to school, when you look back in the woods, all you can see are trees that are still down. I remember there was no power for a week (in my area) either. it sucked when we got "White Jaun" that Winter, 50+ cm of snow that day (in my area). Better pray something like this doesn't happen again.
Good video. I was living in NS when this storm went through. I remember goin to work in dartmouth the next morning to check on the dealership and going past mic mac mall the overhead sign was completly across the 5 lanes. It was pretty erie going past sackville and bedford and then through burnside and not seeing any lights at 4:30 am. Brings back some memories. Excelent song choice.
i was only 8 when hurricane juan blew through but i remember waking up in the middle of the night and my house was shaking and all i could hear was the wind roaring and things being torn apart. Now we are possibly getting hurricane earl on saturday. Lets do a better job preparing for this storm and hope for the best.
@muskielol Hey, jerk, you must not have been here when the hurricane hit or after!!!!! We were all "lost together" with no power, some homes lost and properties destroyed.
People who, before their freezer food went bad, all got "together" and cooked food on bbq's to feed those who had no food. So yes, we were "all lost together", helping one another in a time of serious need.
Don't put down what you never experienced! People in NS are wonderful and we all worked together to help each other.
@Star1953 Lucky! We didn't have power for almost a week and no one helped us out until the day the power came back on. But true, the morning after Juan everyone in my neighborhood was out checking on each other.
Finally someone has put some appropriate music IMNSHO to a scene like this instead of some techno crap .Well done, very moving and captures the feeling of many.
3:50 is right across the street from my house. i remember looking out the window and seeing their white fence flying in the wind. i couldnt sleep at all that night
As soon as the power went out, I fell asleep and slept through the whole storm. I have my own videos of the day after, mostly of the North End (Hydrostone area) where I grew up.
CuteMalak you fucking liar only two people got hurt and 1 person died you really fucking suck at lieing get your fucking facts stright you fucking lieing piece of fucking shit
hes only saying that its a good thing more people didnt get hurt!! fuck man... in a normal hurcan lots of people loose their lives so fuck off and dont hate on the guy cus he has an optimistic opinion on the subject!
every1 in the moring waz walkin around lookin at wat happened....it waz really bad it ook alot of mony to repair the place..lots of things were lost..where im living now i was ther for wuan and now im here for hurricane kyle if it comes....some pplz had trees in front off there doors so they climbed on th tree and into the window..i waz scared cause i thought a tree would fall through my window lots off stuff waz destroyed....
Had Juan taking a more westerly track and threaded the needle west of Nova Scotia, it likely would have been weaker at landfall, since it would have spent another 4 hours or so in colder waters (the Gulf of Maine and the Bay of Fundy are much cooler than the open Atlantic - about 13C as opposed to 20C at the peak of hurricane season). However, Fundy is much more prone to storm surges.
I was out in it! i lived in halifax and my parents owned a bussiness in dartmouth and we had to get there to make sure everything was okay

I was in the hospital during hurricane Juan. I was thankful in a way because it was probably one of, if not the safest place to be.
