Very sad. He questioned the validity of the U.S. Gov account of what happened on 9/11. He lost his career over that. Now quite a few Americans know what people all over the world knew. And that is the attack was basically a movie with G.DUB AND HIS DADDY'S BOYS directing. This guy was a victim of the arrogance and fear of Americans. America wake the hell up. Check out his 60 min interview. As soon as he suggested that Isreal may have had something to do with it, his career was over.
One of the best all time guards in the NCAA or NBA. He is still remembered by true basketball fans. I don't care that he chose not to stand for the US national anthem. That's why we have freedom of religion or is that when the US wants to grant that right! That dude played overseas and was still put up big numbers in to his forties. Much love to you Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. Thanks for all of the memories.

@Stayseated80085 That missed shot at 2:04 was replayed to show the move he put on Jordan. It showed the separation he got from Jordan's defense featuring the speed & quickness of Abdul-Rauf. You have to realize, this is during the era when the "And 1 Mix Tapes" were still underground, so raw, so in your face, and with crazy speed, crazy quickness, crazy creativity, and crazy crossovers! But I do feel what your saying about the missed shot!
Man he was doing that to one of the best teams ever. The Bulls were on an 18 game win streak up to that game so i guess they just hand an off night which happens. Anyway, that was still an amazing performance by Adul Rauf
if someone is on fire like that, no one could stop them. But he still isnt the best guard ever. He Needed to do that on a consistant basis to even be considered in the debate over who is the best
Had the pleasure of seeing Abdul-Rauf, aka Chris Jackson, play at LSU on many occasions, even alongside Shaquille O'neal. It's a shame that squad didn't win the NCAA in '90.

I remember Mahmoud when he was in college at LSU. His name was Chris Jackson back then. He was a cold blooded shooter in college. He was the best pure shooter and also had the quickest release I have ever seen. His crossover was also one of the sickest I have ever seen. Real Talk!
he torched they ass...mike couldn't check mahmoud at all...im glad he stood up for what he believed in some of us should follow suit money is not everything
Best college player ever....He and World Class Gerald Glass had some unbelievable battles....He and Allan Houston also....I patterned my game after this cat!!
I was at this game, absolutely unreal. Very nice to see it on youtube, brings back memories of McNichols Arena! Rauf's release was unbelievabe. My favorite Nugget
He was on the famed "Never say die" Nuggets of '94 who came back from 0-2 against Seattle to win, then they fell behind 0-3 to the Jazz in the next round and ended up forcing a Game 7 at the Delta Center in Utah only to lose by 10. They made it barely the next season in '95, but he and Robert Pack were battered and bruised, plus Phonz retweaked his knee in the last regular season game against Sacramento and never played. The Spurs swept them out that year 3-0. He WAS something else though.
Ahhhhh, the famed McNichols Arena chant for my main man, Mahmoud...especially after he would drop a dagger 3 in the heart of an opponent in the 4th quarter. I have Tourette's and always loved cheering for Mahmoud, and that chant on one of his "in the zone" nights was the best.
I see we gotta true fan here...I've been a lifelong Rockets fan and my man Mahmoud would destroy Houston...He would eat Kenny Smith and company alive, but I always enjoyed watching him play...One of the best pure shooters ever!
I remember that game...it was the last game of the season I believe...Calvin Murphy kept on yelling "there it is" while Clyde was setting up to shoot it on the Houston broadcast...Was that an important loss for Denver? What happened as a result of that game for Denver?
Actually, that game was around mid season in February just after the Drexler trade. The final game of the season was against Sacramento at McNichols Arena. Denver had the 8th spot by only a half a game and had to win. No Mahmoud, no Pack, Phonz played but reinjured his repaired knee cap. It was Jalen Rose who led the way at PG while Reggie Williams had a huge game despite puking in the locker room at halftime. Denver prevailed and held on for the 8th spot only to be swept out by the Spurs in 3.

Gotta love how Jordan was so good that every time a player played well against him (despite needing multiple screens to do so, and being extremely hot from deep like Rauf was), it becomes some sort of event and career highlight for them. lol
Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf clearly has the quickest shot releases EVER!! nobody release is that quick and thats why the great MJ and the rest of the bulls this game could'nt handle it!! rather nobody can handle that when he's that hot. Great video to show how he Exposed our airness lol
this guys aint borne in africa he was christian now hes muslim and d nba underrated him cuz he wus muslim and didnt stand 4 d anthem this guy is really 1 off d best 2 bad ppl got him in shit of hes religion
you know, the funny thing about video is that it can be edited to make ANY player in the league look like the BEST player in the league. If you didn't know anything about b-ball, you would think that denver was the best team and Abdul-Rauf the best player
if you'd seen him play, you'll probably remember him. on offense, he was probably as good as AI. but he did lack defensive skills to become a star in the NBA. but he was one of the best college players ever. his freshman year was better than durant's
I'm a young man, I never heard of this guy until I did some history research. Who's Ray Allen? This guy can STROKE it, also has a nice pass. I wish I was born back in the days when these type of players were unique, authentic.
This is how we should really remember him: as one of the most lethal shooters in the history of the Denver Nuggets, one of the only players I ever saw that could ALWAYS get his own shot, and could be a deft passer. Micheal Jordan was arguably the greatest player ever. So what does it mean when a guy like Mahmoud USES him over and over? The same thing happened in Chicago when he came back from his suspension, he lit Jordan up. Check the books, son. Dude was the ****!
I am not a Muslim, but I respect his right, as anyone's right, to practice whatever faith he chooses, or none at all. That's America. People often forget thtis country was founded by people who left Europe to escape the kind of persecution he faced. But as we found out in 1949, and again in 2001, that it is our arrogance as a nation that most make us targets to criticizm, and much worse, from other countries.
I agree with you again. I have many friends who are muslims even though I am not. And they are the most polite, educated and family-oriented people I know. Had CJ had 9 kids from 9 different moms, made a rap video, or had his house and bling featured on MTV cribs, all his haters would love him and he would still be playing in the NBA. That says alot about NBA fans and the people who control the NBA and the media in general.
Im a Christian. I will also say that the only part that bothered me was that his not standing for a flag that is a symbol of freedom, a freedom that includes his right to practice his faith and protects his opinions, a right that many Americans have died to protect, was in some way disrespectful. But then I remember, America ostercised him for choosing to peacefully practice his beliefs, and that, whether I agreed or not, is EXACTLY why he did it in the first place..America proved him right.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Abdul-Rauf is perhaps best known for the controversy created when he refused to stand for "the Star-Spangled Banner" before games[1], stating that the flag was a "symbol of oppression" and that the United States had a long "history of tyranny". Tyranny?? What a fucking loon!
respect all ya motha fuckin haters,,he's in ittihad club on saudi arabia the best fuckin club in asia.he's still kickin it in his new home..jeddah baby J-CITY
I had the pleasure of watching Chris Jackson at LSU and Mahmoud Abdul Rauf in Denver and I really believe that if he doesn't get caught up in the religious and politic situation, he would be one of the 4 greatest shooters of all time. NO ONE could check him plain and simple.
Still my favorite shooting guard ever...when I played ball as a little kid I changed my jersey # from #3 to #1 after he dropped 53 against the Jazz in 1995. I still love the D-Nuggs and miss the days of Mahmoud droppin bombs-I wish there was a clip when he pulled up from 40 ft. on a in bounds pass to putt the dagger in the Washington Bullets in a home game back in 1995-UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
one of a kind player... to be that size and score the way he did...iverson was the only guard after who had those qualities as far as being a small shooting guard but still effective
I remember this game. This is the 72 win Bulls team that the Nuggets just floored. I never got to see this game but I listened to it on the radio in my room while doing homework. Thanks for posting this!
Actually the game ended up close. The Nuggets had a 20+ point lead at the half, but the Bulls came all the way back in the 3rd and 4th quarters. The Nuggets pulled it out though.
I guess that is why MJ said that he was, if not, the hardest player in the NBA to Guard. You also have to look at his size. He is only 6 foot around 145 lbs, shooting over 7 footers with ease..... Got to love him...

I was at this game, absolutely unreal. Very nice to see it on youtube, brings back memories of McNichols Arena! Rauf's release was unbelievabe. My favorite Nugget
hotboyd33 3 years ago
how many playoff teams was he on? was this nuggets squad a contender?
ritewar 3 years ago
He was on the famed "Never say die" Nuggets of '94 who came back from 0-2 against Seattle to win, then they fell behind 0-3 to the Jazz in the next round and ended up forcing a Game 7 at the Delta Center in Utah only to lose by 10. They made it barely the next season in '95, but he and Robert Pack were battered and bruised, plus Phonz retweaked his knee in the last regular season game against Sacramento and never played. The Spurs swept them out that year 3-0. He WAS something else though.

Rauf was the man! Rauf there it is! <-- Only true fans will know what I'm talking about.

Ahhhhh, the famed McNichols Arena chant for my main man, Mahmoud...especially after he would drop a dagger 3 in the heart of an opponent in the 4th quarter. I have Tourette's and always loved cheering for Mahmoud, and that chant on one of his "in the zone" nights was the best.
snhtown9 3 years ago
I see we gotta true fan here...I've been a lifelong Rockets fan and my man Mahmoud would destroy Houston...He would eat Kenny Smith and company alive, but I always enjoyed watching him play...One of the best pure shooters ever!
plostylzz 3 years ago
Too bad Drexler had to hit that prayer off the glass from straight away at the buzzer in '95.
snhtown9 3 years ago
I remember that game...it was the last game of the season I believe...Calvin Murphy kept on yelling "there it is" while Clyde was setting up to shoot it on the Houston broadcast...Was that an important loss for Denver? What happened as a result of that game for Denver?
plostylzz 3 years ago

Great video to show how he Exposed our airness lol

you know, the funny thing about video is that it can be edited to make ANY player in the league look like the BEST player in the league. If you didn't know anything about b-ball, you would think that denver was the best team and Abdul-Rauf the best player
winhawk23 3 years ago
if you'd seen him play, you'll probably remember him. on offense, he was probably as good as AI. but he did lack defensive skills to become a star in the NBA. but he was one of the best college players ever. his freshman year was better than durant's

You are so damned right! He would be among the NBA's 10 greatests had he remained "Chris Jackson," if you kno wwhat I mean...

I am not a Muslim, but I respect his right, as anyone's right, to practice whatever faith he chooses, or none at all. That's America. People often forget thtis country was founded by people who left Europe to escape the kind of persecution he faced. But as we found out in 1949, and again in 2001, that it is our arrogance as a nation that most make us targets to criticizm, and much worse, from other countries.
kwin2008 3 years ago 4
I agree with you again. I have many friends who are muslims even though I am not. And they are the most polite, educated and family-oriented people I know. Had CJ had 9 kids from 9 different moms, made a rap video, or had his house and bling featured on MTV cribs, all his haters would love him and he would still be playing in the NBA. That says alot about NBA fans and the people who control the NBA and the media in general.
wheelerX1X 3 years ago 5
Im a Christian. I will also say that the only part that bothered me was that his not standing for a flag that is a symbol of freedom, a freedom that includes his right to practice his faith and protects his opinions, a right that many Americans have died to protect, was in some way disrespectful. But then I remember, America ostercised him for choosing to peacefully practice his beliefs, and that, whether I agreed or not, is EXACTLY why he did it in the first place..America proved him right.

Abdul-Rauf is perhaps best known for the controversy created when he refused to stand for "the Star-Spangled Banner" before games[1], stating that the flag was a "symbol of oppression" and that the United States had a long "history of tyranny". Tyranny?? What a fucking loon!

Thanks for posting this!
sikwitit26 4 years ago
Actually the game ended up close. The Nuggets had a 20+ point lead at the half, but the Bulls came all the way back in the 3rd and 4th quarters. The Nuggets pulled it out though.
sikwitit26 4 years ago
Here is his line: 13/27 from the floor, 4 3PM, 32 pts, 4 reb, 9 ast.
sikwitit26 4 years ago
I guess that is why MJ said that he was, if not, the hardest player in the NBA to Guard. You also have to look at his size. He is only 6 foot around 145 lbs, shooting over 7 footers with ease..... Got to love him...
