  • ~ Thank you so much for posting this and doing such an excellent job of posting it . It brings back some great memories . I was 12 yrs. old when it came out and my older brother had the record and we both really dug it and played it a lot . ~

  • Finally. I've had this song in my head for 4 days now.

  • This was and still is one of my all time favorite songs! This is just how my wife makes me feel.I know there are many others who really appreciate this song. thanks for sharing it!

  • Just heard this on itunes radio station Boss Radio under Golden Oldies while shaving and remembered hearing as a kid on the old AM radio. I smiled without making any nicks :o) Great post on vinyl! Thank you very much. Deeply appreciated.

  • I was 6 yrs old when this song first came. I always liked this song and always thought it was song by a a black group. I guess you learn something new everyday. It's reminds me of a youtube video I saw of a woman telling her husband that they were going to have a baby and the man started singing this song to his wife and unborn baby. I cried like a baby myself watching that video. It was so sweet.

  • I'd hardly call this a "ballad" dakotajim11378?!

  • as a Sue collector when i first played this i realised how much of a soul gem it was, it stood out and still receives regular play at clubs i DJ at 25+ years later

  • @rearly62 Perhaps 45 yrs. 1966-2008!

  • classic- stands the test of time-HAPPY u posted it

  • I found a little book at a discount store a while back, and it was from a woman named Nora to a man named Rick in 1965, who was "serving the flag" (that's what she said in the book). The book is a book called, "Love Is Walking Hand In Hand", from San Fran and in a section it says "Love is having a special song", down in the corner Nora wrote "Oh how happy you have made me" and I felt like I had to find this song. I really want to find these people, but I dunno how, any ideas?

  • @GrawrTM the best way to find those people is basically put your story you have written here with the names you have, and take a picture of the book and words to post with your story and ask that if they are still around to contact you and then pray they are alive and can read what you post. buona fortuna= good luck!!

  • @GrawrTM Serving the flag is another way of saying you are in the military. It sounds like it was given to a young man about to go to Nam, by his girl.

  • this is a great song to play to your kids when they are in the dumps!!!! i know it sure cheers mine up as i am spraying whipping cream on their cookies or a special treat...i promise it will sure cheer mom and dad up to!!!!!!

  • My grandfather used to play this song all the time

  • I love this song !! So sorry to read that there are some hateful punk ass little bitches who just want to talk some shit just to talk it.. Why would you try and take this womans proud story of her parents away? You little punk-bitch... I'm only sorry that I am using such foul language around such a beautiful song. Again, you little punk ass bitch. ps if its just a song, and its not even so great, then how the fuck did you stumble across it? FUCK WAD!!

  • pyannaguy...gee, I'm almost ready to go get an Alka-setlzer! Your comment was soooooo nauseating! Gee whiz...get over yourself! It's just a song. And not that great. Turn on the 6 O'Clock news, Mary Poppins...whew!

  • @wilswasit104 Let me guess: You figure the Mona Lisa was just a picture, maybe?

Fighters make millions for beating another guy's brains in. They live like kings, their kids are born rich, and they get remembered for decades. But what bothers you is that somebody got a really glowing 2 paragraphs of praise on a YouTube site for a great little tune that's made millions of people forget about the ugliness in the world for a couple of minutes at a time - and still does.

    You need a hobby.

  • Gets me everytime! Thanx, peace, love & freedom

  • This song reminds me of a film called "Campfire tales". It can be listened in one of its stories.

  • I feel like crying. My Big brother you used to sing this to me when I was a kid. Rest in peace Wayne

  • this is how my fiance makes me feel

  • great song by a great group.

  • and the Summer of 66' was a great summer of song.

  • Just can't get enough of this song. thank you for having it

  • Isn't it wonderful how a little slice of Heaven like this song and performance is saved, undeniably, and is there to shine for the people who participated and everybody who's ever enjoyed it?

I'm one of those people who wonders what happens(ed) to the folks involved; the singers and players, of course, but even the people with the know-how to get it recorded. Whatever else they go through, even including leaving us - these warm, glittering moments are pure and new, forever. Peace...

  • @pyannaguy Linda and Bobby are my parents. :) I'm so very proud of their accomplishments! Right after I was born, the song hit the top 100 and they started touring with Dick Clark. I stayed with my dads parents when they toured. My mom loves reading all the wonderful comments and although my dad passed away 4 years ago, I know he would be THRILLED as well! He loved music and The Shades of Blue was his heart. Thank you all for your kind comments...I'm a very proud daughter!!

  • What a great song by this quartet with the soulful sound from Detroit. It's such a romantic ballad expressing gratitude & devotion for the joy, love and for sticking with him/her through thick & thin. It would climb to the # 12 spot on the billboard charts in 1966. I like to put it in the same category as The Vogues "Turn Around, Look At Me" and The Association's "Never My Love". All love ballads during this great time in the 60s decade. If you like this song check out my channel for a ton more!
