and to people bringing up the stats - the decision is not based on stats at all. Im sure michael moorer was statistically better than george foreman in their fight, but it was foreman that got the big punch (the ko). While the stats indicate that marquez likely did technically out-box pacquiao (which he did) - it does not make him the winner of the fight mostly due to his inability to do any significant damage to pacquiao (barring the cut) .

Judges needs to score every round . They dont measure the damage of their punches but the accuracy of them.
Also people saying that boxing experts had marquez winning - fair enough, but that does not make them right either (just as judges dont always make the right decision - i.e williams/lara) - Fact of the matter is that these judges are chosen by the commision because their opinion is more valued than that of the other boxing "experts."

Not getting completely dominated by pacquiao is not the same as beating him. I think its a close fight, and if people thinks marquez won, i can see that - but i think pacquiao won this. Knockdown was the difference...also, you look at all the big punches in the fight, most was from pacquiao - i think marquez only significant punch was the cut. pacuqiao had the knockdown, (almost another kd in 10th round) and also cut marquez.

I had 6 rounds + knockdown for Pacquiao and 5 rounds for Marquez. The 2nd round was too close for me to decide, but I would've leaned towards Pacquiao on the 2nd because even though the round ended with a solid shot from Marquez, Pacquiao also had solid shots in the middle that were easy to overlook. 115-113 Pacquiao (2nd round is 9-9)

12th round definitely marquez won..but for the people who are criticizing harold lederman for giving the 12th round to pacquiao, it doesnt really matter..because pacquiao would still win 114-113. There was many rounds which you could have given to either fighter, so thats why its such a close fight. there was about 3 rounds where i think it could go either way. so i think if they all went to marquez i see how people say marquez won. of those 3 rounds, i gave 2 to pacquiao and 1 to marquez i think. so even if it was 2-1 for marquezi still had it 114-113.over the 36 mins, marquez was probably better, but in 12 rounds i say pac was better, because when he was better, he was much better.

I don't see how people can even think that JMM won this fight. Manny clearly won more rounds and was up because of the knockdown. Even if you give JMM some of the closer rounds it would be a tie at best. I've watched this fight over and over and over, 1st to 12th round and as much as I try to give JMM rounds it just doesn't add up.
Boxing experts scores don't mean a thing. The actual scores from the three judges on that night from Jerry Roth, Duane Ford and Tom Miller are the only ones that matter and those three have the final say.

i agree with this. I also have to agree, however, that with different judges, marquez could have easily won this fight as well. The fact is, those are the judges who were chosen. Harold Lederman also had pacquiao (even if he gave 12th round to marquez, pacquiao still would have won.)

Jerry Roth picked JMM for his counterpunching. Duane Ford picked the Pacman for his aggressive style. Tom Miller had it an even scorecard with the sole exception for the knockdown. In Miller's eyes, that knockdown just gave Pacquiao a little more extra to get the decision his way.

Watched the whole fight the 2nd time... There's no doubt in my mind that Pacquiao won.. He was leading up to the 10th round and put up a decent fight in the last two rounds. I've watched this over and over and Pacquiao was ahead by 2 points after the 10th round. All Marquez could do was win the last 2 rounds to come up with a draw. The 11th round was fairly even and I gave the 12th round to Marquez. Pacquiao clearly won by 1 point (counting his knock down punch over Marquez as 2 points).
In a close decision you have to give it to the guy who knocks the other guy down, the guy who is aggressive and keeps pushing the fight wins most of the time.

JMM, his staff and his fans kept on saying that he won the fight, BUT they really don't know what those three judges who are at ringside and hired by the NSAC are going to do once that fight goes the distance.

and to people bringing up the stats - the decision is not based on stats at all. Im sure michael moorer was statistically better than george foreman in their fight, but it was foreman that got the big punch (the ko). While the stats indicate that marquez likely did technically out-box pacquiao (which he did) - it does not make him the winner of the fight mostly due to his inability to do any significant damage to pacquiao (barring the cut) .

Also people saying that boxing experts had marquez winning - fair enough, but that does not make them right either (just as judges dont always make the right decision - i.e williams/lara) - Fact of the matter is that these judges are chosen by the commision because their opinion is more valued than that of the other boxing "experts."
If you want to talk about "robbed", dont forget that pacquiao literally was robbed in the 1st fight because of an admitted mistake.

Not getting completely dominated by pacquiao is not the same as beating him. I think its a close fight, and if people thinks marquez won, i can see that - but i think pacquiao won this. Knockdown was the difference...also, you look at all the big punches in the fight, most was from pacquiao - i think marquez only significant punch was the cut. pacuqiao had the knockdown, (almost another kd in 10th round) and also cut marquez.

The 2nd round was too close for me to decide, but I would've leaned towards Pacquiao on the 2nd because even though the round ended with a solid shot from Marquez, Pacquiao also had solid shots in the middle that were easy to overlook. 115-113 Pacquiao (2nd round is 9-9)

Different judges will see fights they way they want. Some judges like the more aggresive moving forward fighter. Others reward for counter striking and defense.
Do everything in your own power to up the tempo and pace, mix up your game and try to do everything in your power to finish the fight via KO.

12th round definitely marquez won..but for the people who are criticizing harold lederman for giving the 12th round to pacquiao, it doesnt really matter..because pacquiao would still win 114-113. There was many rounds which you could have given to either fighter, so thats why its such a close fight. But marquez did not rly do anything special, he was just the slightly better fighter most of the fight. pac kd'd him and marquez was really lucky not to get kd'd extra times in the 3rd round.

there was about 3 rounds where i think it could go either way. so i think if they all went to marquez i see how people say marquez won. of those 3 rounds, i gave 2 to pacquiao and 1 to marquez i think. so even if it was 2-1 for marquezi still had it 114-113.over the 36 mins, marquez was probably better, but in 12 rounds i say pac was better, because when he was better, he was much better.

i agree with this. I also have to agree, however, that with different judges, marquez could have easily won this fight as well. The fact is, those are the judges who were chosen. Harold Lederman also had pacquiao (even if he gave 12th round to marquez, pacquiao still would have won.)
the fact is, they left it to the judges. if the judges chose pacquiao, then thats it. I see how they chose pacquiao, i see how 1 judge also chose marquez. it was a close fight.

The moral of the story is this that fighters should not leave the fight in the hands of the judges. They never know what the 3 judges are going to do.
Jerry Roth picked JMM for his counterpunching. Duane Ford picked the Pacman for his aggressive style. Tom Miller had it an even scorecard with the sole exception for the knockdown. In Miller's eyes, that knockdown just gave Pacquiao a little more extra to get the decision his way.
It happens in boxing and it happens in MMA.

It happens to any fighter whether it's Juan Manuel Marquez, Paulie Malignaggi vs. Juan Diaz or Joshua Clottey vs. Miguel Cotto who leaves the fight in the hands of the judges, especially in fights that are close and could've gone either way. You may never know what the judges are going to do.
It happens in boxing and also in MMA fights.

Round 12 went to Marquez, easily. I have it 114-113 Pacman.
Marquez is to Pacman as Norton was to Ali. He exposes all his flaws, and only the difference in talent keeps Pacman in the fight.
If he'd learn to move his head inside, and throw body shots, especially the right hook under Marquez' high left, he'd win easily.
This was a very good fight, but it shouldn't have been. I can definitely see why people think Marquez won, even if I didn't.

marquez's round! i had the fight 116-114 pacquiao! thinking back maybe the second round was very close and at most id give it to marquez but id still have pacquiao winning by one round! GREAT FIGHT! i have a lot of respect for marquez and believe he should go down in history as a brave warrior of the sport! as a boxing fan it was an honor to watch this fight! superb!!!

Watched the whole fight the 2nd time... There's no doubt in my mind that Pacquiao won.. He was leading up to the 10th round and put up a decent fight in the last two rounds. In a very close fight like this, you MUST give it to the guy WHO FLOORED the other guy. This is boxing people and KNOCKDOWNS don't lie.

I've watched this over and over and Pacquiao was ahead by 2 points after the 10th round. All Marquez could do was win the last 2 rounds to come up with a draw. The 11th round was fairly even and I gave the 12th round to Marquez. Pacquiao clearly won by 1 point (counting his knock down punch over Marquez as 2 points).
In a close decision you have to give it to the guy who knocks the other guy down, the guy who is aggressive and keeps pushing the fight wins most of the time.

round 12 was a spirited rally for marquez.. he did his best during this round and it looks like pacquiao is already exhausted but he tried to do his best also to survive but i really think marquez won this round. i had also had this fight 6 is to 6 rounds. very close fight. a seesaw battle.. very exciting to watch.. 2 warriors with great heart..!!

yeah, but pacman lost to marquez. lol, watch the fight and listen to any boxing analyst, they'll tell you pacman lost. plus floyd fought hatton and de la hoya at higher weights. Oscar had a f*ckin iv in his arm before the fight, and hatton didn't follow the fight plan at all. Yes manny fought great, but beating a washed up and dehydrated de la hoya, and a stupid brawling ricky hatton doesn't lend all that much credit in the minds of knowledgeable boxing fans.

i do do research, i'm a really big boxing fan. first off, Yeah Floyd didn't knock out JMM, but u gotta remember floyds a defensive fighter. Plus he won every round of that fight, that's way more than you can say for Manny. I'm also not saying that it made a difference when manny or floyd fought ODLH or Ricky Hatton, i'm saying that they fought at different weights. I am a boxer, and i used to be a wrestler so i know what all this means.
