I misspelled the name, which should have been MILAB. Yes, I own three of these but use them for recording mostly live classical music on-location. Ray Charles favored this particular microphone over the years and if you go to the MILAB page on FaceBook, you can check them out and commentary. Milab microhones are not widely known or distributed here in the USA, but are very well known and respected throughout Europe. Their rectangular capsule is sort of unique.

@Marantzguy OK, Thanks for the tip. I am looking for some good microphones for recording vocals and acoustic instruments. If Ray liked them then the must be worth checking out, if anybody had good ears it was him.

I live In Europe so availability should be no problem.

Milabs microphones have indeed been put up against some Neumann products but they really are great for vocals. Their model DC-196 is a total winner and it is a very small and compact product, yet features the classic MILAB rectangular capsule. Check out PEARL Microphone Lab microphones, as well. Both are Swedish companies, formerly associated with one another, but no longer so. Ask indie producer / engineer Kavi Alexander what he thinks of the rectangular capsule!
