I was there !!! and it was a night to remember. I'm a big fan of both and this was the first time I saw them together. When Bob came onstage the place went absolutely wild. It was incredible to watch them play together.....not to mention that Bruce blew the roof off the place that night. . 30 + years burning down the road.
I never knew they did anything together. I always thought it would be cool to hear Bruce cover "Night Moves". Bruce Springsteen always got the glory and the critics adoration, but I always thought Bob Seger was the man! The songs really resonated w/ people. Bruce definitely was known as the rock hero from Jersey. But Bob could pen a tune you'd know you would sing along to on your FM radio, and I unabashedly loved Bob Seger's radio friendly rock and roll! It was brilliant & goreous outlaw music!
Bob Seger admired " Thunder Road " so much. It inspired him to write "Night Moves" What GREAT music these guys have. They should do a whole series of concerts together. It would be standing room only...
THis is really cool. WHo is the drummer on the drum kit behid them in the picture - a very young looking Max Weinberg? Doesn't look like the veteran model......
Wow! Bob, in his hometown, singing my favorite song with Bruce himself? It was a freaking dream come true...I was there! This was my first Springsteen concert as well (I first saw Seger in '78 at Cobo Arena). 18 years old, my two idols at the peak of there careers, it didn't get any better than that. What a treasure to find this, thanks for posting. I'm a Detroit boy, but I live out east now and it was great to see Bob in Baltimore last night... and I can't wait to see Bruce in 2012!
Wow, thank you for posting it. I got this concert in a tape, and the sound was so bad you could barely hear the song. I'm in love with the talent of Bruce and the voice of Bob Seger. Listening both singing together is a gift to me. Thanks again.
yeah - the fact that in 1980 bruce did a song AGAIN in concert... no. this was a huge moment.
i'm surprised they never really did anything else.... i mean i know bruce is on a whole different level, but i'm just surprised they never hooked up live again for some stuff...
@greglausch I agree. And they just did for the first time since this incident last night at MSG. Bob brought Bruce onstage as a special guest for Old Time Rock And Roll. I knew they were friendly, but this was so unexpected. Just seemed odd that for over 30 years they haven't made an appearance onstage again. Videos from last night just make you smile at these guys. My two favorite idols onstage together. Gave me chills.
@gajaga789 - No surprise at all. They're admiration for each other dates back to the late Sixties. At Bruce's last gig in Detroit, in '09, he did a tribute to Seger with Ramblin' Gamblin' Man.
@speyez I did know that, but I'm just surprised that between 1980 and 2011 last night, they never shared the stage seeing as they are close. But its nice to know they still have so much fun together. I mean this picture pretty much says it all.
I love Bob and Bruce. Bob I've loved for as long as I can remember. I literally cannot remember a time when I wasn't listening to Seger. I think my mom must've played the Stranger In Town album on headphones against her pregnant belly! Bob Seger is practically in my bloodstream. Bruce I've been a fan of for almost 10 years now and he has influenced me more than Bob when I write. Bruce is kinda the better songwriter, but Bob has the bigger heart. Plus, my 2nd fav song is Bob's, not Bruce's.
@BeefBoullionaire Pointless comparison in my mind. Both are fantastic artists, and both have had their hit songs. Now we know how awesome it is when they join on a stage.
@mustangman442002 Well, yeah. Music isn't a competition, but like many people I can't resist the urge to rate and rank stuff I like. Doesn't matter in the end.
If you listen carefully, Seger robustly fills it in around 2:50 but he's obviously playing nice with Bruce. I wish there was a video recording of both icons together on stage. Love them both.
Both are great songwriters! Seger's voice could knock you out!! Bruce's voice stays strong and gets better? Both are rock royalty but Seger's "stuff" is golden.

The drummer in the pic is David Teegarden. Don Brewer did studio work and some live concerts but that's Teegarden

@baskie28 "Roll Me Away" (released 1983) is based very clearly on "Thunder Road" -- in fact, Roy Bittan plays on it too.

@jaystarstar that may be true but bruce based most of his music on bob because bob seger is the real boss

@tmonico0714 That is Don Brewer, who was also the drummer for Grand Funk Railroad, he has been with Seger for a number of years.

Just my opinions...
Songwriting: Bruce (barely)
Singing (hard rockin'): Bob (barely)
Singing (slightly more ballad-y) Bruce (barely)
