When I saw the movie in a theater in '76 my girlfriend and many around us felt a chill when Deep Throat, Hal Holbrook, stepped out of the darkness. What astounded us is the fact that the Wash Post newsroom was a set, with extras talking, typing, dialing rotary phones and even the desks and trash cans were full of papers. Loved that polyester on the main actors and the sideburns the size of Delaware!
The black security guard that broke the case his life was fucked because of his discovery , he had five minutes of fame and years later became a welfare reciepient , and died in poverty . may he rest in peace ☼
I'll be frank: I had an incredibly hard time keeping myself awake during this move. The Deep Throat scenes were really all what I was looking forward to when I watched this. Someday I'll watch this movie again, maybe in the future I'll be able to appreciate it to it's fullest.
@Jeirable - Hello. To each their own. We who lived through it find this movie riveting. As you know, Watergate wasn't just a break-in. Nixon ordered federal employees to use "dirty tricks" to sabotage "opposition" Congressional candidates, then used campaign funds to bully/buy people off; total abuse of power. However, to try & distract & win back the public, he ended our Vietnam involvement when he'd previously swore he'd leave our soldiers in the line of fire "forever." Lives saved! Peace.
A really great film, featuring great investigative journalism. Unlike todays media.

"Deep Throat" was W. Mark Felt, the #2 G-man at the FBI. He went public in 2005, 33 years after "Watergate". Bob Woodward confirmed that revelation.

Every American should watch this movie.
Watch it a few times to get all the details. People will be watching this 100 years from now to understand Watergate & the Nixon Administration.

Scary in a very understated sort of way. What makes it even more intense is that the general events were true.
