Massage parlours were notoriously sleezy places for sleezy people back when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s. In the 80s, they morphed into "Asian Spas" or "Exotic Spas". Those are the kinds of places you'd drive by and honk your horn if you saw someone in the parking lot, and the people (men) would duck behind cars or bushes real quick hoping you weren't someone that knew them. Proves that they were scummy places.
Whats really scary here is my Aunt Angie looks just like Eunice ...and my grandmother looks like mama,that has become a family joke for years!I love 2.46 to 2.54 HAAAAA!Budget!!
Lol...kinda like today's version of "my daddy's baby." It means having a baby out of wedlock, which back then was considered very negatively. Today...it's a daily occurrence.
I will tell u why, these r 10 minute or so skits. And "Mamma's Family was 22 minutes or so, it is very hard to write for that. PLUS, "Mamma's Family didn't have Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, Or Tim Conway. Plus the writing on Carol's show was excellent.
None of the character's change. Eunice is in that orange flowered dress, Mama is in that lavendar dress, Ed is in that white button-up, Mickey Harp is in that mickey mouse thing.. None of them change
You would need to slug down all the beers you could, to put up with this disfunctional family lol

What's the matter with these women. Massage is very healthful. All the books
on achieving inner peace and serenity tell you meditate and get a massage.
And the nice thing is, you can do both at the same time.
If people got massaged more often there'd be less strife in the world today.
rockgor 1 year ago
@rockgor
Um, I don't think this skit is referring to the kind of massage you're thinking of. Jus' sayin'.
christimacc 1 year ago 2
@rockgor it would depend on what sort of body part that gets massaged.

What movie is that that Mama is watching when Eunice comes over?
roosevelthighschool 2 years ago
@roosevelthighschool
Might be "Three Secrets" (1950). Directed by Robert Wise who also did "The Sound
of Music" and lots of other films.

I love how they improv sometimes just to crack each other up. And it's even better that they leave it in the series.
They don't make 'em like this anymore!

Funny that the cost of her cab fare then, is now the cost of a gallon of gas.

First season (or maybe first two) DID have Carol and Harvey...which is why they were so much better, given the authentic feel.

Yes, it's true they never change. I always got a charge out of how Eunice's dress, belt and shoes are mismatched.
