I drove indy 500 cars and a nascar stock car through the Mario Andretti Racing Experience at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It's inexpensive and fun. I've jumped and raced dirtbikes at a local track called Aonia that's about 30 minutes away. You're right that you can't eliminate accidents 100% but I most likely won't be in one ever ;)
