  • thats the actor burgess meredith doing the voice over

  • Check my Pioneer turntable out...

  • One the best tonearms ever. Solid and heavy, I think it beats the performance from nearly every prosumer-level table available at the time. What was once considered "good" build quality is now considered boutique, top-shelf audiophile grade. It's a plastic, digital export world now, but you could kill a guy with the PL-518! Ground connection runs on the stereo RCAs. A real shelf-filling machine. Can't disable auto-return for things like Sgt. Pepper's inner groove, though. Penguin endorsed.

  • @tedehlers

"Can't disable auto-return for things like Sgt. Pepper's inner groove, though"

Well, actually you can disable auto return, but that would require modification to disable the triggering mechanism.

  • Watching this video I am a little bit frustrated. It is because this turntable is not adjusted well. The anti-skating is at 1 level,( it had to be at 2 ) and the stylus stands a little bit right, not in the center. It is the result of incorrect adjustment of anti-skating.

  • I am listening to my PL-518 right now. Sounds nice...

  • Isn,t it a shame that Pioneer have let a lot of their products fall into the "crap" quality these days. This stuff you see here was really good quality.the modern plastic rubbish they pass off as a turntable has a plastic frame and you can twist it at each diagonal corner.I also have a 1996 cass deck that you can bend the flimsy cabinet out of shape.Bring back the quality. Not everyone loves iJunk !!!

  • Isn't the cartridge on this Pioneer turntable a DENON 103D (moving coil). Very interesting since Pioneer clearly had their own cartridges at the time. Possibly this was a higher end model that warranted a higher level cartridge (than Pioneer would normally make themselves).

  • my dad ownes this thing and i pulled it from his shed today and cleaned it up but dont know how to use it lol, anybody got any instructions to how to use it, i'll appreciate it. my dad said the needle needs to be replaced (and hes right), any body know were to get them?

  • @BrandonDime You don't know how to use it!? WOW! And thank's a lot for making me feel so damn old! LOL!

  • Vinyl records will still be made 100 years from now, probably. Can't say the same for iPods (which are fun, but completely disposable).

  • I agree..........it may be old, but its not bad! The sound from these high quality turntables and diamond heads(along with the old large speakers and amps) kicked some serious ass. By comparison a lot of todays CD players sound cheap and tinny......you just dont get the bass these days.

  • Yayy, Burgess Meredith lives! Any turntable endorsed by the Penguin has to be good, right?

  • just bought one of these at a garage sale yesterday for 1 dollar. brought it home cleaned it up nice. hooked it up to my 1970's jvc receiver and it sounds great. I took a video of it playing which I will put on youtube soon. the turntable will probably go onto ebay very soon. anybody interested in buying it? :)

  • I own this turntable. And yes, it works. This table is a work of art for the eyes and ears. Just 10 minutes ago Rush *2112* was spinning. With an occasional replacement needle and well protected vinyl I get the warmest sound anywhere

    in the visible universe.

(Note: the add failed to mention the strobe and adjustable speed. The -slow-

release beginning @:19 is not an exaggeration. ---- rip, Burgess Meredith.)

  • ke figo!

    pecato ke nn capisco niente

    xd

  • i have a pioneer model pl-510a direct drive turntable. bought it new about 1975 and i still have it. it works great and looks great!!

  • Pioneer copied Technics. I collect vintage audio and I have the Technics SL-1600. It was used in Disco clubs in like 1975 and it really is amazing. It's impossible to make it feedback no matter how close you put it to your speakers and it weighs a ton. I got it from ebay. This Pioneer looks good but I think Technics made the best DJ style turntables and they're still the standard today with the SL-1200. But I love Pioneer receivers. I have the one from 1976 that is 85 wps @ 8 ohms. It kix ass!

  • I grew up with my dad's Technics SL-D2, which looks identical to this. So as long as it's got an S-arm and a dust cover - I'm good!

  • I have this turntable, solid and reliable with great sound

  • Burgess Mereideth speaking. Nice!!!

  • My uncle had this this ttbl, fact still does. I'm just old enough to have had two record players as a kid, and there are pictures of me changing LPs on my first one, a Mickey Mouse. I remember one time at my uncles house, I was told I was 2.5 yrs old, I got to his (this) turntable and was able to find a record, turn it and the main power on,and play a record. Turns out I played a Bee Gees 45 (and set the table to the right speed), b/c the RSO records labe look like a kids record.

  • ...and my uncle almost had a fit, until my mom explained to him that I knew how to play records. Which he figured out when I had everything set, including turntable speed, manual tonearm, special spindle plastic in the middle, and I put the tonearm back when the record was done.

  • I remember these turntables. I had one that was similar, made by Techics, I think. Odd that at the end of the commercial, they don't actually play the record! Anyway, it was fun to hear Burgess Meredith narrate the commercial. Thanks for the video.

  • Nice commercial but to be honest I'd take my possibly cheaper PL-115D over that all plastic thing.

  • It's not plastic, it's wood with vinyl laminate. The PL-115D is built the same way, just with wood grain laminate instead. I have both and I find the PL-51x series to be much better sounding.

  • Those old Pioneer turntables are good.

  • Looks like the turntable has a DENON DL-103D, very sought-after cartridge. High compliance version of the DL-103, wish I had one!

  • I just found one of this in my attic last night, after a little bit of googling i got a new ortifron (i think thats how its spelled) cartridge for it and wow! THE SOUND COMING FROM IT is amazing. This vs cd is like the comparison btw masturbating aand a real beautiful woman, mind you i have a parasound amp and AVC and pre 2000 SNELL SPEAKERS and SUB....I dont know what to do with my SCOTT turntable but all my friends think, "they are played out!" haha...let sleeping dogs lie.

  • I'm not sure how your amp and speakers and whatnot factor into your sex metaphor, but good for you. Sounds awesome.

  • Ortofon.

And you should keep your Scott as a backup.

  • @MTOTOwaNYAYO - I think it's spelt "Ortofon".

  • @MTOTOwaNYAYO i live HH SCOTT!

ill take it off your hands!

  • @MTOTOwaNYAYO PERFECT COMPARISON

  • Cool!!!!!!

  • I had one of these... It was, hands down, the best turntable I ever used. Basically, they have no rumble to speak of. I was stupid and traded it for a Technics SL-1200. The pioneer was better.

  • I saw this same turntable at a garage sale for $5.00! What an insult! But anyway, I should have bought it, because it worked perfectly.

But I allready have a turntable, that i bought for $100.00, it's a Sanyo TP-1010, and with the price I payed for it, I'm not giving it up.

  • I picked up a 518 up from Goodwill for $14.99. Rock solid speed, low noise, good tonearm, etc...

I use it everyday and love it!

  • THAT'S MY TURNTABLE!!! (I use it everyday)
