I love the Dubliners, god bless all of em! Ronnie, Luke, Ciaran, John, etc. i have many of their albums but i've never heard this before- what album is this on? i've only heard the Pogues version
barcelona36... Luke kelly, Ronnie Drew, Paddy Reilly, Jim McCann, Patsy Watchorn are excellent singers dubliners have and also u must be counting ciaran from your comment so that is over 3 i count there... tell me 3 of them that you say isnt great?
Must agree with you, sammcc102 - a bit of an intellectual too and made a fantastic job of singing songs in Gaelic. A rare feature indeed. Handsome fella.. :o)
I think the laugh at the end of the song reflects on the great life sung about in the song - with women a-plenty!!
Why not? Laugh, rail against the pain, seems to work for me. Anyway, he seems to be singing about having many a woman and well, some of the lyrics about cows and all are funny to myself. I don't see much or any pain in this song at all or chor a bith anyway. Given a choice I'd like to see you laugh, smile just the same.
@berryjewell Well put sir. This song describes a man who doesn't give a fuck. Enjoys his life, and is content with what he has. "what is mine, is yours"

His voice sounds a bit scratchy, but from the sound of that cough, it seems rather expected. Anyone know when this was recorded?

Ciaran's finest musical moment I reckon. Utterly brilliant.

Always loved Ciaran's voice. There were three great singers in the Dubliners.

And for lots of people Barney can matched not by vocal but by emotion in his song to all the above.
