Netherlands Horse Rescue 2006 – The Unknown Hero Norma Miedema The woman who started the Netherlands Horse Rescue must receive credit. Norma Miedema is one special person who has never come forth to tell her story. If not for Norma the death toll would have been not 21 but probably all. She never received credit and should.
Real men don't get tears of emotion. That is my story and I am sticking to it.
This rescue was clearly well planned and well executed, if it went wrong it would have been a disaster. Full credit to the women who led them out, they put themselves at great risk, but this magnificent rescue was also a great team effort.
just google Norma Miedema Telegraaf (Marie-Therese Roosendaal wrote her story in the Telegraaf), Norma was with these horses all night long before the rescuedate !!!
@Mechalina please read the new new description. Thank you and the others who kept asking about Norma it is only fair her story be added although not captured in video..
I've watched this so many times and still I have tears dwelling in my eyes every single time. Thanks to all the rescuers and thanks to Quintinde... for sharing this miraculous rescue with us.
this is the first time I have seen this, there is no need to ever watch anything else here:) Thank-you a thousand times for posting this, and to ALL the people who were involved in this TRULY heroic moment!
oh my GOD, my hair stood on end, and I wept like a baby. those women are hero's, brave and smart. all those horses needed was a leader. absolutely amazing. if these women never got recognition from some sort of world organization, than it is a shame. they didn't even need the "barriers" these horses willingly followed a brave leader.
Thank You so much! There was a rumor these horses later went to slaughter, please tell me that's not true...are they Friesians? These women successfully accomplished what the goverment couldn't ...with love and not force..what a mark in history.
Thanks for posting. Am touched every time I watched this even it's a long time since then. I always watch it again each time after watching the bad and ugly ones on YouTube!
Beautiful!!! It made me cry tears of joy.. It promises for a better world when you see men help animals in distress... We are FINALLY beginning to ACTUALLY evolve!!! Kudos to everyone involved in this rescue. My heart is yours!
When I see those horses stepping high as they emerge from the water I can't keep from crying for joy. A rousing heartfelt salute dear horsewomen of Holland.
CathelijnesSuperdogs --Het was zo mooi om te zien hoe eindelijk de paarden het water over durfde.. **It was this way beautiful to see how at last the horses dared water
I saw this video, sent in an email, back when this first happened. I though about it today and decided to look it up, still 4 years later it had me crying!! The power of the equine herd and how they know who to trust and who if helping them, is just so amazing!!
This video sends shivers down my spine everytime i think of it. Is is the number one, most amazing thing i have ever seen.
holding my heart i want every one of those horses and big hugs to the ladies, they are true courageous and wonderful heros I cry so much.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Be carefule what you wish for. When its a happy ending its beautiful when the outcome is disaster you never sleep again. These horses only had days left and some were already dying.
Yes..this was a "historical"rescue..Young people on there horse saved many many other horses..They are "hero's" i think. Thanks for share Johanna. Greetings Marc
I have tears in my eyes every time I see this amazing video. Thank God these women had the courage to do what they did. Beautiful and such a picture of hope in seemingly hopeless situations.
The more I see this video the more I love the way the lady horse riders set about with the men who stayed with the stranded horses on the little patch of land worked together to bring the horses to safety I admire them all very much and feel so proud of them thank you all
This story reduced to tears... the trust that these majestic animals put in us the human is second to none. I defy anyone who will not be moved by this clip.
Thank you, Quintinde, for going to so much trouble to get the names and info, and bringing it to us. It completes the wonderful story. Perhaps you should become a journalist!
What a lovely story ! To those that rescued those horses, you are far better then the polictians/religious bigots of this world. Animals deserve more humans like these people who rescued them. Thank you for showing this.
This is incredible and will be with me always. I am so grateful to these women and their horses for their courage. Amazing. Brings me to tears everytime.
This is the perfect music selection for this video. I am amazed every time I watch it. Had to download this mp3 and whenever I listen to it, I think of the horses!
Thank you for your unselfish act of love, putting yourselves and your horses in harm's way to save these horses. It was amazing to watch. God bless you all.
oh my, this is wonderful. I'm in states, I had never heard of this. By the time the video ended, I was crying with joy. Many many thanks to those riders, to all who helped save the horses.
I've read in an article stating the rider who fell into the water during the crossing was Micky Nijboer and Berber protected her with his body. Another person who fell, along with her horse was Hinke Lap.
My deepest gratitude to the amazing women and their equally amazing horses for what they have done for the trapped horses. God bless you all.
As a horse person, this video was very powerful. Horses are such beautiful strong animals, and put together with a human, as a team, is such a great thing. They do make us stronger from the inside out. Such a great video.
Indeed, I remember this watching my tv, and so very very moved by that what we see here.

I read this article in Reader's Digest March 2008 this morning and now found it in the Tube! Awesome video. Great music. Thanks to all the people involved in the rescue esp. Micky Nijboer and the other brave ladies.
I'm happy to hear that I was emailed by 2 people that some were moved and others sold at auction and ended up in slaughter. The last horse however did not make it He couldn't take the shock of the ordeal because of his age.--even though they tried to save him- this was from one of the rescuers.
This video does not show one horse who brought up the rear. He was helped all the way back by a couple of men -- the horse was extremely weak, and they literally walked with him all the way back. I've seen it on other videos of the incident, and read about him in news articles. I wonder if he made it. This video, though, is incredible.
Bit of a kick in the teeth, I heard that mentioned only a fortnight after their 'glorious rescue' but wasn't sure as to the facts. Certainly what reasons would cover someone to keep a herd of over a hundred horses together in a field in a European country. It is all effort saving meat stocks rather than brave heroines rescuing horses. I'm Irish, if it was a cattle herd I would be disgusted if they did not at least save one or two of the calves as at least a mark of what they achieved.
What I have been emailed is a mixed bag of information. It is true in the horse world that horses go to slaughter a horrendous end but a fact. The horses were from different owners therefore different destinies.
i know nothing about horses but im suprised that they didnt spook and shoot off in all directions, they must of communicated with each other....great to watch these lovely animals being saved 10/10
We have found this video quite awhile ago, and its still one of the best we have seen on this topic. There are other versions but they are not so good, and the music that you chose could'nt have been better!! Thats what makes this video so awesome, its the muscic.
Thanks so much and hope this stays around for longer than it did before, when it seemed to have disappeared for a bit awhile ago.
Fabulous video. I remember this well it was heart renching and your perfect editing and music has made this rescue by those brave women from a desperate situation one of the top vids on You Tube.
Thank you so much for adding this tremendous rescue video to youtube, I also cry each time I watch it, these women are heroes of our time, as is everyone who was involved in saving these precious horses lives, amazing people, you make us proud of humanity! xx
OMG. I just sat and watched this video and wept for the beauty of these horses, and for the hearts of people who care enough to help animals that are hurting. What a wonderful thing to do!
For three days the media broadcasted the unsucessful attempts to rescue them. Then a posting appeared on the frisian horses forum, by Micky Nijboer: "horses and riders sought....." Only experienced riders with horses without fear of water could try the idea of leading them off the small mound of land. It was the last chance. The women would meet with their horses the next day and the video is what they accomplished by risking themselves and their horses.
Thank You for adding Norma in the description !

Please elaborate. Getting information on the people involved with the rescue is very difficult.

Thanks
Five stars
